The Denon DJ SC2900 is the new jog-wheel based multi-media playback DJ device that shares almost all of the same features and functions of the Denon DJ SC3900 which we reviewed last year. The Denon DJ SC3900 was a definite success for DJ's who wanted the closest vinyl-feel possible, but still gave the DJ options to play music using various forms of media or computer/tablet connectivity. It only makes sense that Denon would now focus its efforts on appeasing the DJ's who want a CDJ-like jog wheel feel. My really doubt is about that Jog. The feeling is Like cdjs? I work with cdjs since almost ever and I do like the jogs. If i buy one of these, the transition for this jog is easy?

Hi man, nice mix dude!! I have a Numark N4, and it work perfectly but i'm missing the pad-things that some other controllers have, so you can for example roll and have fun with the pads..Can you recommend a upgrade a can buy so I get the pads so I can do better mixes?

After spending a week with these decks I was unhappy with them. They offer a lot of features, but the most important to me is a solid working platter. I often noticed a glitch in the sound when releasing my hand from the platter when scratching. After adjusting the touch sensitivity various times and updating the firmware I could still could not get the response I desired. I came from using pioneer CDJ 800s and CDJ 1000 mk3s and the Pioneers had a fantastic response time on the platters. The Denon's offer a very smooth feeling platter, but the response on the touch sensitivity is not good. Please let me know If I am over looking something.

Another great job ! How about having a SC-3900 and SC-2900 together with your set up, one each, and your choice of which unit would be on your left or right of your mixer ? I am thinking about this layout or holding out for some of those HOT Pioneers ? Any thoughts on that ? Keep up the great work !

Hi I have a chance to get a pair of these, I want to know if I should take them, Im more going to just being using Cd's and Thumb Drive, and possible the engine, would the Behringer DJX900USB mixer work ok with it, or the Denon X1800 ,the Behringer is more in my price range, let me know so I know I'm making a good choice on this and if the mixer will work good for me

aha..I was thinking if I can buy a nanopad or something like that..and then do mixes with my N4 and the nanopad..but I don't know which nanopad or effect box I should by..Do you know any affordable device there I get these pads? Hope you understand what I mean.

Pitch resolution on wide disqualifies these units for me. You can also only share one drive at a time with them.

I keep hearing linking two of these via a network. Do you have to carry a router to link these in a live setting or do you just link one directly to the other?

You can currently buy a pair of SC2900s for roughly the same price as a single CDJ 850 (in the UK at least).

Is the fact that it has a plastic chassis really a negative when pretty much every CDJ is constructed that way? Also lightweight? According to the specs the SC2900 weighs 4.4kg. The only high-end units that are heavier are the CDJ 2000 nexus at 4.7kg and the SC3900 at 5.8kg. I've physically handled all of the current CDJ units out there and the 2900 and 3900 definitely stood out for me as being the sturdiest of the lot. I can't help feeling that this review is somewhat biased against the Denon (I don't own any CDJs FWIW).

I hate them, I've had mine for literally 11 days and sold them. I own and cherish a Denon DN-HS5500 which basically is two of these in one box. Half the price. Now I know why Denon discontinued the HS5500. It was and still is way ahead of its time. Plus the Denon HS5500 has a high torque platter. For me this is a must if your an old fart vinyl guy.

+DJbooth DJ's But the SC3900 is only a single play deck. The 5500 is a dual deck in one box. Only need one 5500 and a mixer. Anything more is bling.

+Bod Bodhi Most DJ's prefer a traditional setup with a deck on each side of the mixer. The dual deck in one box can work for some, but mostly all the DJ's I know would like to have a deck on each side with separate controls for each that can be adjusted simultaneously if needed without layering...

Layering? That's something completely different. the 5500 has two independent decks that share the control surface, layering can be added too. and you can control both decks at the same time, add independent effects to either of the tracks or both and swap control of deck 1 & 2 with one key as fast as you like without having to move physically from one deck to the other. Just press a button. Have you ever owned one? I ask because it seems like your reading from a manual, and have no first hand experience with the 5500. My main contention with the 3900 is the fact that you need two of them which is double the cost to do the same job as one 5500. While I'm in agreement that generally DJ's use two decks like I did for 15 years, The 5500 changed my whole outlook and is still a serious contender for someone on a low budget. $500 gets you two 3900's in one box. It's a win !

+Bod Bodhi Wow, why are you trying to bash in your responses and always talking about reading manuals? I've been a DJ over 20 years and I do not even read manuals or wiki on DJ gear. You do realize I've done 100's of reviews now right? Anyway, This is not a win for everyone since some people like myself like to have two separate control surfaces. I have used the 5500 extensively and for gigs and I owned both the 3700 and the 3500 (pairs of each of course). On the 5500 the decks are layered meaning you can't manipulate them both at the same exact time... You call it "sharing a control surface" and I call it layering two decks into one device. You have to PRESS THE BUTTON as you say to switch from one to the other. So it's difficult to do transitions where you need to do things on both decks like make one slow down to a stop while fading the other one in. You need two separate decks for these types of maneuvers. I have many DJ friends and NONE of them have a single deck even when they have a deck that can act as two decks like the Numark V7. They too have dual RCA outputs and can be used as 2 separate decks, but you MUST press the button to switch between them which means you can't adjust them both at the same time.

+ImpactSpace I don't even need the moving waveform. The CDJ1000 style crude whole track illustration is fine with me, but only two lines of tracks plus the folder text as you scroll through them. Lot of cash for such a limitation. There's also conflicting info on how well it works as a soundcard. It is high resolution pitch below 100% range, but not even 0.1% at 100% range. Weird.
