So does that pack method also work well without an hmd? Just using coals directly on foil..Or do you have to use a provost

Good question! Right now I’m merely showing the correct execution of the Dense Pack, as I’ve been showing the correct execution of all the Density Levels in this series. So to answer your question, you must first understand that the pack is the pack and your heat source is your heat source. Whether it works or not is dependent strictly on what shisha tobacco brands you smoke and whether they perform optimally at a given density level. My UNLTD Pack Mat and Starter Mat both showcase my Density Level Guide - which is designed to cite which density level pairs best with which shisha tobacco brands. In order for a given density level to be considered optimal for the given shisha tobacco you use, it must provide excellent sessions with very minor adjustments from hmd/provost/lotus application as well as from bowl to bowl. Please consider joining the Hookah UNLIMITED fb group so that you can share what shisha you actually use for suggestions as to which density level and heat source apply best to it. Keep in mind that No two shisha brands are identical (unless in a few instances they are the same product just rebranded).

@Brian Gilson we aren’t exactly talking about whether the session will improve from foil and quick light coals to use of coconut coal and hmd. But rather whether the density level of a given shisha tobacco will change when u use a different heat source. But yes you’re right! In my experimentation I have found that for a dense pack it is best to add 50% of the tobacco, press it down a bit, then add the other 50% and press. I consistently get better results doing this as opposed to adding it all and pressing once. I have a hypothesis as to why this is, but I will let you guess before I ruin it ;)

That’s not an ideal way to do it because you miss out on a crucial aspect in regards to packing and how the pack is effected through the course of the session. You actually don’t want the tobacco as tight at the bottom as u do at towards the top because as the top layer of shisha burns and hardens, it’s even more difficult to get heat from the coals to penetrate into the bottom of the bowl; hence why I teach it the way I do. It nets for a more complete and longer lasting session with superior flavor preservation and cloud output.

That said, you’re welcome to believe what ever you want my friend Edit: to rephrase - “are you sure you’re not mistaking the method of packing (which is what you described) with the actual density level (which this video details), and it’s effects on the density level and overall session performance (which is what I’m referring to).
