Betty Nunez Hey! I'm 31 and in an Dental Assisting program the ends in May. I'll start work in that immediately and apply for a DH Program next year. I'm a male by the way. If that factors into anything. I don't know. But is it possible to maintain a full time job and do the DH Program? I also have my bachelor's by the way. Graduated in 2010. But yeah. I absolutely must work to support myseld and I need to maintain my medical Insurance . So is it possible to still do a DH Program. And considering it's been so long since I graduated, will that count against me and will they accept my pre requisites from back then? Thanks . Oh yeah. I've been working in Retail Management. Don't know if my resume will factor into anything as well when applying .

I’ve been a Dental Hygienist for many years. It’s so nice too see the diversity in the field now ! Please consider all aspects of “salary “ with benefits. You can have a “job” , but a benefit package is inclusive of a career. Many private practices may “pay well”. but that pay must cover all your expenses, i.e., health benefits, retirement , disability. Remember your worth ❤️🦷😊

VasilybKickz Hey bro, I'm 20, 19 when i got in, and currently in dental hygiene school, as a male you are non-traditional, so you can get financial help on books,ect... However their is no advantage in getting into the program or staying in it, you gotta make it just like everyone else haha. Now disadvantages, even someone like myself at 6'3 tall, it is not a problem, but you have to be physically capable if you want longevity in your dental hygiene career. You kinda have to be a people person to best interact with your patients, ESPECIALLY as a male, you are going to learn first hand having your hands in peoples mouth is a very personal experience for them. Most people are anxious about dental offices and YOU, so your gonna have to try harder socially than your cute pretty classmate. Any questions, just ask away

Hi there new sub!!!:) I’m currently an RDA in Cali have been thinking of going back for DH now I have a Qs... idk what path to take should I go back to community college get my gens and prerequisites to apply for dental hygiene program or should I just go straight to a DH program/ school that doesn’t need gems/prerequisites now the first option would give me a bachelors and the second option would give me an associate idk what to do plus I wonder if it makes a difference what school I attend in the hiring process and if it will affect the pay..

Soo i asked a lady how long does it take to become a hygentist i also watched your video but i still don’t understand how long it takes including prereqits some ppl say two years and some people say four
@Nastassjaferjuste6 жыл бұрын
CAM EATS 4 years all together, the actual program is 2 years and if you take a lot of your prerequisites at the same time it can be 3 and a half years all together 💓

Ok so I graduated in 1998 from high school and had poor grades....So should I get my associate or bachelor's degree First before applying into a DH program?

I live in Alabama and was told by other dental hygienists to expect about $18/hr starting out. I can’t believe how severe the wage gap is between states!
@TheHummingBirdJaiye5 жыл бұрын
Maggie Meadows I live in Arizona. And in this state the minimum I’ve seen from job searches have been from at LEAST 35.00 to about 75.00 an hour.
@maggiemeadows31605 жыл бұрын
TheHummingBirdJaiye Wow.. my husband and I have discussed moving to another state when I finish dental hygiene school because RDH are so underpaid here!
@TheHummingBirdJaiye5 жыл бұрын
Maggie Meadows yeah look up statistics and stuff. I’m currently shadowing one now who makes well over 50.00 and hour. But you paid based off the location and sometimes experience. It’s easy to locate jobs that pay more than 30.00 an hour. Try looking on indeed and you’ll be impressed. The cost of living is slightly more expensive but it’s easy to maintain if you’re making that kind of money vs 18 an hour which I make in retail.

A dental hygiene program is taken at a school

Once you start college you start taking classes at the school before you start the dental hygiene program

1. can you have a job while attending school? 2. are males valid to do this work or will they deal with discrimination? 3.what classes do you need to take for your associates degree ?

Were you able to work and do school? I’m doing my dental assisting starting in August and it’s a shorter program because I went through a divorce and need to take care of my kids, once I was in an office for 6 months or so I was hoping to start the Hygiene program at my Tech college here... a lot of forums said working and school was a no go for this but I can’t not work and support my kids. I’m honestly scared that I’ll be stuck as a dental assistant forever.

Hey girl I love your videos and thank you for sharing your knowledge. It definetly answer questions I have in mind. I'm 21 years old and I have been thinking to pursue dental hygienist as career path. I initially went for nursing, unfortunately it didn't work out as I hope for. My questions is would you recommend going for dental assistant first before going for RDH? I'm thinking to join airforce as well and works as DA for approximately 4 yrs.
@Nastassjaferjuste6 жыл бұрын
Nica Baliguin hey sorry for the really late reply but if you intend to do DH I would just go ahead and do that instead . It depends , you can always do DA and get some experience see how you like it but me personally I would go straight to Dh

Hi there! I had a question that I can’t seem to find with an answer! Can you please help me out?! I’m thinking of going to dental hygiene school, but my only problem is, I don’t think I can watch someone having a tooth pulled, I know that’s not the requirements in being dental hygiene, but did you have to watch a tooth extraction in dental hygiene school?? It’s not the blood, it’s just seeing the tooth being pulled out that creeps me out. Lol trying to figure out if dental hygiene is for me or not! Thank you for you time and I hope to hear from you soon!!

@gMesha7 жыл бұрын
Did you have to do anything dealing with chemistry because that’s the one class in highschool that I suck in
@valeria26_126 жыл бұрын
0g.Mesha Im currently attending a college in California and chemistry is a pre-requisite for DH Idk if it depends in the state you live in but usually your pre-requisites for applying to a DH program include chemistry and biology courses. Ay the college i attend you just need to take 2 chemistry courses and 4 biology courses in order to apply
