Sometimes I feel like theres just no good answer, its all too expensive and not how I'd want to live. Just so depressing that dental insurance try to work around your missing teeth and that getting implants can cost like a down payment on a car. I have 2 missing teeth and also considered implants until surprisingly my dental assistant suggest that I get braces instead to close the gaps, straighten my teeth and correctly align my jawline in the process. I never had problems with my wisdom teeth so thankfully at 49 I still have them and am able to use them to now push in my top row of missing teeth to close the gaps. All of this cost me @ $6000. I put $2000 down and make $148/ mo payments which is very affordable for me to manage. The whole experience has been great. My ortho dr is AMAZING! I will have worn metal braces for only a total of 2 years by the time they are scheduled to come off in May 2022. This was definitely the right choice for me as opposed to implants. Metal braces or even invisiline (my daughter has those but they cost a bit more) is a great option because you get more bang for your buck. Braces are also beneficial for correctly reconstructing your face shape and jawline as opposed to just getting a new tooth put in.

I believe titanium implants have their place. However unfortunately dentist often do not adequately inform patients about one of the shortcomings of this method restoring a dental arch and preventing bone loss. This shortcoming exists because titanium implants are not attached to alveolar bone in the same way that normal roots are attached. Titanium implants are attached by osseointegration. Bone grows into the metal, fusing with the metal. Normal roots are attached via soft tissue called peridontal ligaments. Ligaments grow into the bone, as well as into the tooth, attaching the tooth to the bone. These enable the tooth to do 2 things that osseointegrated titanium cannot. (1) The soft ligaments function as a shock absorber. (2) They are part of a system that allow the alveolar bone to remodel around the tooth, should force be applied to the tooth. Due to the ability of the bone to remodel,, as the teeth wear, and as the person ages and age works on their facial bones, teeth can subtly change their position relative to each other, thus preserving a good bite. Orthodontia takes advantage of this ability of bones to remodel around teeth, in response to forces on the teeth. With a titanium implant however, bone cannot remodel around it as force is applied to the tooth. Thus should the position of an implant, with age, become less than ideal, it cannot be moved into a better position using orthodontia. Their position is so rigidly fixed, that orthodontists sometimes use implants to help stabilize a bite, around it, moving all the other natural teeth, relative to the fixed position of the implant. The word oseointegration is sort of a euphemism for ankylosed. Osseointegration of titanium has its use, but it is not a good thing in its entirety.

She completed or orthodonic treatment and now she just has a space where her left lateral incisor should be.Our dentist is going to do something to fill the space while she finishes growing. He said she can get an implant once she is fully grown. I watched this video to learn more about what can be done because our dentist hasn't shared his specific plan yet. Yes to a second video! I have a daughter that is missing both front side teeth (adult lateral incisors). She was born without them. I was told by her dentist that either we can move her back teeth to close the gap, then file the teeth to make it look like normal front teeth. Or do implants. The one option is okay, but it does look a little off on people’s smiles, and the implant option can be a bit pricey. (Is there a recommended age before you do implants?) She’s young, only 8 now, but trying to learn what our options are and to start saving up now! 😬

Hi I was born with the same teeth missing and I've been in braces now for a year. I was given the same options and decided to open the gap for implants. My sister had the same case years ago and she decided to move her canines forward and file them to close the gap. I think the implant option is the best as my sister has a very narrow smile now and is looking to get more work done to her teeth as she's not happy with her smile anymore. I have fake teeth on the braces to cover the gaps for now and I couldn't be happier with how my smile is looking. I would definitely go for the implant option, I think it's the best in the long run.
@kristyo16454 жыл бұрын
I am missing my adult upper laterals as well. I did canine sub. I think it looks ok, on me, but it may be because I have small teeth (in general). Having an experienced orthodontist, who feels confident (about either option) would be important. An orthodontist who is willing to go over the pros and cons of both with you, for her individual case. Possibly do a mock up of each option too? Either digitally and/or molds? If that is an option...I don't know for sure if they would do that...it is a lot of work. But pre-planning seems important. Does she have large or small teeth? Any over jet? Other tooth sizes and how the occlusion/bite and arches would fit together and function. Function, aesthetics (looks), time and cost. The different options are better for different people. So....all those factors, plus a little preference as well (within realistic reason). Will help you decide. It's great you are considering all options, to help figure out what is best for her individual case. If you choose implants...ask to see the dentist's implant portfolio. So you can see their work, if possible.

I had several successful implants and very satisfactory. I needed a new implant and had the initial part done, but due to asthma had to go in hospital and received massive doses of steroids, which combined with infection caused me to lose the implant and a lot of bone. In fact, two adjoining teeth in front were lost, leaving me a three tooth gap right in front and now not sufficient bone to support implants. One option is a bridge, but cost is $8,000.00 for a bridge and no assurance it will last; other option is to remove 2 additional teeth and do implant bridge, but that’s $20,000.00. Just wearing the temporary dentures I was given lets me know so uncomfortable I would not wear it. At 76 I don’t know how I can afford either good option. My only thought is that since it happened due to medical problem, is there any way medical insurance could be applicable. Dental insurance payments so minimum almost unhelpful. What about the option of having work done at a Dental School? Is that a possibility that might work?

There are some difficulties though, in getting Mexican dental care. By the way I have had hernia surgery in Canada, paying about 1/3 of what I would have paid in the US, for a more experienced surgeon. But heading back south - I'll have some difficulties getting Mexican dentistry. There is considerable expense travelling to Mexico from Western North Carolina US and staying in hotels on the way. My Spanish is miniscule. I know the numerals from cero to nueve, and important phrases like tortillas, friholes, and bano. Not a lot more. Yes I know many dentists cater to English-speaking patients. What do you think, compared to dentists who cater to the local people, do they cost mas o menos? And how do I distinguish between the better dentists and the worser dentists. I have trouble doing this in the US. I spent some time in my 20's as a dental technician and latger as a inventory clerk and accounts payable clerk for a group dental practice. I have far more understanding of what dentistry is about than the average patient. Yet when I move into new town, it takes me years of trial and error before I find a dentist whom I can trust. Ask patients? No no no! Most people have no conception of the quality of dentistry they have been getting. Dentists know who the other dentists are, in their area, that do good work. Dental hygienists know. Working dental technicians know. Dental assistants who have a lot of exprience figure it out. Most patients have no idea. just stumbled across your channel and in addition to the informative advice you provide, your whole vibe is very positive and approachable. wish more dentists and orthodontists or just people generally were like you! it's good energy and makes you a pleasure to watch. i have one back molar missing after removal due to the tooth falling apart after procedures of root canal, fillings and then crown. i know that implant is probably the primary option for me although i haven't gotten it addressed because i don't like the idea of fake objects implanted in my jaw. i've just left it as is. i went in to the dentist's office to get something unrelated done - a filling - and she explained that the top molar hadn't "dropped down" into the empty space where the molar used to be because one of my other bottom teeth was basically blocking it from doing so.

"Teeth like to touch" so they will start shifting once there's a gap. The opposing tooth will "super errupt" or grow towards the gap, throwing off your bite. The adjacent teeth will slowly shift towards each other and the bone that the tooth used to utilize will start to resorb and if you lose enough teeth, your face will lose vertical dimention. That gap creates extra space for food and bacteria to build, increasing the risk of decqy to its neighbor teeth. The bone loss will over time will expose the soft dentin roots of surrounding teeth and you can develop abfraction lesions, which are very destructive to the longevity of your teeth

the dentistry is so far behind compared to other areas like medicine etc. There should be better options like regrowing teeth for missing teeth etc. There would be nothing better than having a new natural tooth replacing a damaged one , it could be costly but so is an implant that might have issues in the future and become a nightmare to take it off if needed.

Hi, I went to the dentist today thinking that I would have two fillings, two extractions, and order two implants (on opposite sides in the back) but he strongly recommended I do a traditional bridge on both sides and dismissed the implant idea. I think it is because he can do the bridges in house but not the implants. The biggest red flag for me is that when I asked him how long the bridge would last, he said that it was would never need to be replaced. Based on my research, that’s not true and I don’t see the point in damaging the other two teeth on the sides of one being extracted. What do you think?

I t seems like implants are the best option. But...During the procedure to place a dental implant in the jaw, some of the nearby anatomic structures are sometimes injured. This includes perforation of the maxillary sinus, inferior border, lingual plate, labial plate, inferior alveolar canal, or gingiva If the maxillary sinus cavity is perforated by the implant, for example, this can lead to sinus problems and infections in the area in the future. Other Complications and Risks There are also some other complications and risks linked to dental implants such as: Nerve injury: this causes pain, numbness or paresthesia in the surrounding tissues (e.g. teeth, gums, lips or chin) Tissue necrosis: the cells in the flap of tissue around the implant may die in approximately 1 in 20 cases. Gingival recession: the gingiva next to the dental implant may recede to expose the metal abutment that holds the prosthetic in place. Dehiscence: this failure of wound healing requires bone grafting Excessive bleeding Hyperplasia

Expense is an issue for me. Where can I get something done that won't cost me an arm and a leg.i am missing a 1tooth in the upper right quadrant and in the same quadrant my front tooth is on a 20 degree angle. Maybe I can get both done at the same time? Any recommendations?

I was reading someone elses case. Removed 1st molar and plan was to move wisdom and 2nd molar into that space...but it didn't work, so implant is now being recommended. Which makes ya question then...why was it removed? Is it possible to move a 2nd and 3rd molar that direction? Would it require TADS?

Yes , please explain more by making the video. What I learned about the process and adding crowns to two good teeth to hold the missing tooth in place is not conducive, because if either of the crowned teeth have a issue- well there goes the crowns and money down the drain. Sorry I got off track. How would one floss under a tooth cemented in by two crowned teeth if there’s no gap between the two crowned teeth? Thank for this video .
