This video shows what it’s like to get dental impressions taken of your mouth at the dentist. The ending also briefly shows the model getting poured up. Reasons you may need impressions could be because you're getting a night guard, retainer, or whitening trays made. You may also need impressions for crowns, dentures, or any other lab fabricated restoration. The intention of this video is to give dental patients a glimpse of what this type of appointment may look like in the dental office. Tip for everyone: Ask to get a mold of your top teeth first. That's usually the one where it makes you feel like gagging. The bottom one is a breeze. 😎

Ok, ok after seeing this video and all the comments, people are WAAAAYYYY over exaggerating. I literally just got my braces taken off and they took impressions. I was stressed like hell because of all these comments. It really wasn't bad at all. I didnt throw up, I didn't feel like I would. Its just a little bit of pressure and uncomfortable and tastes a little bad. Just relax, breathe through your nose and you are fine I promise. These people need to stop making it seem as bad as they say it is. It is not a big deal, dont stress.

I remember that the orthodontist I saw when I was little had flavors they could mix into the mold--I was so disappointed when I started seeing another orthodontist like 5 years later (my family moved across the country) & finding out that wasn't standard practice. I think my second orthodontist *just* got a mint flavor in when I was getting my braces removed

Got mine done today, I was nervous because I have a very sensitive gag reflex. The molds my orthodontist used are the same shape as a sports mouthgard. I was expecting the top mold to gag me more but I actually didn’t at all with the top, just the bottom. Overall it goes by quick the the putty stuff tastes like nothing. Painless too.

I just got back home from getting my impressions done. I went with Mint flavored and it tasted so good! If you can choose, choose mint. I didn't gag at all and yes it was kinda uncomfortable but not bad. At. All.

Had impressions and xrays taken so much i think i'm immune to gagging now...Weird to think how primitive Dentistry still is, even in the 40's and before they took moulds and made dental plates in a very similar way, only the denture was more metallic than the plastic\metal construct they are today.

I couldn't do the impression so I just got the scanner. If you ever have to get an impression ask if you can get the scanner it is like an electric toothbrush running along your teeth. So much better.

Sometimes, yes! Every dentist has their own preference - but generally we still take alginates for night guards and whitening trays. The 3d is used for crowns and restorations. Thank you for watching!

You might not need adhesives due to the perforations in the tray. Usually, none is needed for alginate impressions. You will certainly need it for final impression

Hi again .., today was my big day ! Omg for some one with high anxiety i just had my first impression it was so funny... I mean it felt like i had a mouth full of bubblegum. 😂 I even giggled as my mouth was filled with this puffy substance . My grandbaby liked hearing the sound of the tuny vacuuming of taking the left over puffy stuff 😊 again i have ptsd when it comes to going to the dentist. And it was caused 20 years ago .dental mal pratice and physical mental amd emotional damage occuur. It put so much fear in me till i asked my 5 year old grandson to help Granny not be afraid . I normally cry sitying in the dentist chair but not today! I just want my smile back . I have so much work to be done but today i feel proud of myself that although very afraid , this is my dental journey to recovery heal emotionally and mentally from the trauma that was induced years ago. . The whole team in the office feels like family soon as i walked in the dentist office they all greeted me with welcome back Jae! I was suppose to take my anxiety meds before my visit but i fogot them . But still went foward . Thank you for your videos thdy are helling me through my healing journey ❤❤❤

Question: Why did the hygienist hold the tray in place, rather than asking the patient to bite down, allowing the natural position of the jaw to determine the angle at which the mold sets? I’ve only ever had a hygienist hold it for me once, and that night guard formed incorrectly, causing it to pull painfully on my teeth when my lower jaw is in its natural position. If I’d kept using that night guard, it would have changed the alignment of my teeth over time. I switched back to my old mold until they can remake the replacement. Unfortunately, she made the mold the same way this time. I guess I’ll know in a couple weeks if it worked.

the bite registration shows how your top and bottom teeth fit together when you bite down - which helps the lab to fabricate a proper fitting night guard/etc. hope this helps!

I had a horrible experience with the dental assistant he didn’t know how to do it. I told him the tray was too big for my mouth. He didn’t make sure that it was the right size. He kept on messing it up. Then the 4th time he said sorry I should’ve listened to you. I was so sick from the material I nearly threw up on him. He gave me a puke tray. It took every ounce of my being to not curse him out saying how wrong he was for not listening to me!

Hey guys can I ask a question I have a cousin who is studying dentistry and she is practicing tooth impression in me and due to failures we did the impression many times and at the same time the cavities in my teeth has come out. hi friend! generally a filling would not come out with impressions material unless the filling itself was defective. a healthy filling would not come out with taking an impression. we do recommend you to visit your dental office to evaluate and assess the area. hope this helps!

When I went last week I had to do that omg 😲 that hurt im getting bottom partials it took 3 dentist to understand suction the bottom 😅 never want to do that again they did say because having regular teeth the suction was a good fit 😅 yes I cried. I breathed deep and wiggled toes 😔
