Appreciate the shout out brother and appreciate you being transparent about where you were accepted and rejected. A lot of people are hesitant to share that information and it's great that you did! Super excited to be following your journey and hopefully COVID-19 will not play a huge role in your first semester and restrict you from labs. Also, If you guys are interested in my channel, I have the link to it right here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGm5aWZmhrapmrs

I found your channel through reddit and oh boy was it a great discovery! I still have a few years til I ever reach dental school, but watching your videos (that I just binged) really inspired me and reaffirm that dentistry is where I want to go. Thank you for the tips, advice, and transparency! I was looking for answers on reddit and found answers to questions I didnt even realize I had through your videos 😂. Side note: I was wondering how you were able to shadow the dentists you mentioned before in another video? Also, you could prob do a video about finance for dental school in the future since that's a big part of deciding to become a dentist.

Hey Irene your comment really made me smile! :) It is amazing that you are immersing yourself in dentistry already and getting prepared! You're welcome, I'm glad my videos can help you on your journey!

Hi Jack! Thank you so much for the videos you’ve been making. I applied for this cycle and it’s been so nerve wrecking. I applied mid October and have only gotten 1 interview so far. May I know when you applied and the schools that you got rejected from were they pre interview or post interview? Thank youuuuu
@jackhansmiles3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sai! Keep your head up, nothing you can do now other than sending letters of interest! I applied to all of my schools pre December, most of them around end of July. Most of my interviews were pre December but you applied later than I did so don't stress too much!

Hey thanks for the awesome video and good information. I looked up the book you were talking about, adea the official guide to dentistry school, and it’s a bit expensive. What’s the chances I could have your book since you know where and when you’re going to school? I just thought I’d ask.
@jackhansmiles3 жыл бұрын
Hey Darquez glad you enjoyed the video! It definitely is not a cheap book. I should be able to find it at home but do not have it right now. If you want I can try to find it late march and send it to you however I also would recommend a newer edition since mine is a few years old! Let me know what you want to do, happy to help you out! :)

Your videos are so helpful! How did you go about picking the schools you wanted to apply to besides using the official ADEA guide ?
@jackhansmiles4 жыл бұрын
Hi Tiffany, glad my videos help you! I applied to so much so I did not do a lot of research before applying so just went based off of the book and applying where I thought I had a chance. I applied to all the ones in California because my family lives over here and other than that just applied where I had a chance! Do research on SDN though, learned a lot on there!

Yeah you are allowed to apply to as many as you want! I know that Canada has a deal with Australia and a some parts in Europe where you can study there and still work immediately in Canada! Woah 5 years I didn’t know that!

The number of enrollees is different from the number of offers made. So you can’t truly estimate your chance if you don’t know the number of offers made to international students.

Woah 30 schools! How much did this approximately cost you? I’m in the US but I have low stats so I will be a applying pretty broad as well
@jackhansmiles4 жыл бұрын
Hi Sanders, it cost around $3000 for the primary application HOWEVER every school will require you to fill out or pay for a secondary application that will run around $50-$150 so in total the cost was around $5000-$6000. Hope this helps and good luck!

@jackhansmiles3 жыл бұрын
Hi! It is important but more important is what you do at your school! Yes, if your parents are still in Canada. They can act as a cosigner. If not, then you need to find one!

Hey Jack! Is there a specific reason why University of Detroit Mercy rejected you?
@jackhansmiles4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, they do not tell you the reason why. All I received was... "Thank you for your interest in the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry. Over the past several years we have had a large number of highly qualified candidates applying to our program, and this year was no exception. As part of our admissions process we review all completed applications, as well as those applications that are near completion, in order to identify qualified candidates to interview for a position in our Class of 2024. Along with a thorough review of each candidate’s academic qualifications as demonstrated by transcripts and DAT performance, we assess the candidate’s non-cognitive attributes including experiences in the dental field, life experiences, volunteerism and leadership. Based on this review, the Dental Admissions Committee must make the difficult decision on a limited number of interview invitations. We have reviewed your application, but I regret to inform you that we are unable to offer you an interview for this year’s admissions cycle. All decisions are non-negotiable. We thank you for your interest in our program and appreciate the hard work and dedication that it has taken you to reach this level of academic achievement. We wish you all the best as you pursue your academic and professional goals in the future."

Hey Anna! It varies by school but I would say your GPA is only around 33% of your applications! So many different factors to work on for your application :)
