Hi, Im currently a high school student and want to go to school for dentistry but I haven’t really figured out what i would like to major in, any suggestions that you think would help me in the long run?

I would strongly recommend majoring in a science like biology or biochemistry. these majors tend to cover a great deal of material that you will encounter in dental school, and the more before you get to dental school, the better. good luck and thanks for watching! :)

I am a Pre-dental student and your videos really encourage me to follow this path. But I specifically want to specialize in orthodontics.Because I interned with a orthodontist and I really enjoyed that specialty. But I spoke to my local dental school's admissions and they said they only pick about 3-5 people a year to follow that specialty In that particular school and it's based on how one performs in dental school. So am I expecting to maintain a GPA in dental school like I did in undergrad? Is there even a gpa or similar grading system in dental school? Sorry for the long paragraph I just want to make sure I won't disappoint myself when I invest in dental school but don't get placed in the specialty I want. Thank you in advance! And keep the videos coming 👍

Jerry Cortez that's definitely a great career choice! My recommendation if I were you would be to shadow a bunch of general dentists and see if there is any other procedure or discipline you really enjoy before getting locked into one specialty. If you do that and you still feel like orthodontia is where you are meant to be, then work as hard as you can in undergrad to be at the top of your class, because you will need to be at the top of your class in dental school also. I wish you the best of luck!

@DentalPro20217 жыл бұрын
yes we do, sunny! however, our time in the clinic is pretty minimal and I'm not sure just yet what we will be doing in the clinic...I guess we will find out soon enough!

How far away do you live from the school? Would you think commuting from 45 minutes away is too much on top of the stress of dental school or would you say it’s doable?

How do you make time to study with the responsibilities of a husband and new dad?!
@DentalPro20217 жыл бұрын
good question...honestly it can be pretty hard at times. my wife and I make sure that we have a schedule written down every night for the next day so that we know where and what we will be spending our time on. it definitely takes some discipline, but one thing that I have learned throughout school is that there is always time to do what you want to do...you just have to make the time for it. when I am with my family, I do my best to be 100% committed to my family, and when I am studying, I do the best I can to be 100% committed to just studying. life gets pretty busy but its totally doable! also, my wife is a rockstar with our little boy and does an incredible job of taking care of him, so it is not as bad as it might seem.
