Louis was with his wife and needed to practice as he had a show the next evening. My parents were in the next motel room. Louis came over to my parents room and asked if they minded if he practiced. My mom and dad said he was unbelievably kind and they said it was like a private concert as they loved every minute he played! I’ll never forget my parents telling me that story. Rest In Peace my lovely and charmed parents and Louis? Thanks so much for that blessing! Your always remembered fondly! God bless

I was once lucky enough to see Jimmy Durante in person in the Boston Garden. I will never forget what a great entertainer he was. I think that Louis Armstrong is the greatest of all time. Thanks for posting.

Oh, what a treat! Thanx so so much for sharing! I've loved Jimmy and Louis since I was old enough to sneak out of bed and watch them on our old b&w tv. Mama and Daddy knew I was peeping, but never called me on it. Now, they're all gone. RIP, Jimmy, Louis, Mama, Daddy, and thanx for all the magic, music, memories, love, and laughter. I miss you all.

In his early days Jimmy Durante played fantastic classic authentic black ragtime piano. His 'ragtime ear' for timing can make a thing of art out of a song like this.

Durante was a Guy with a Heart of Gold. He did so much Charity work and like Mae West was a Huge Civil Rights activist. He fought Valiantly for Blacks on the Vaudeville Circuit often refusing to perform if Blacks weren't allowed to participate. Durante also like Al Jolson advocated fairness among them and often would talk Friends of his in Real Estate in L.A. into offering and selling NEWLY built Homes he invested in to Blacks at Discounted Rates.

whenever i see this i think of my dad who loved these two performers. I remeber the joy it gave him and to see him so happy made all the family feel loved and happy too. Louis Armstrong apart, who was a wonderful and much loved performer, what a versatile and wonderful entertainer jimmy Durante was. He could do jazz, he could do humour, he could do pathos, he could do ballads and he could act in films. In short, he was one of the most wonderful entertainers ever to come out of America.
