Denton ISD bus driver suspended after nearly hitting kids crossing the street

I used to drive a school bus. The bus driver is supposed to watch and wait for all kids to cross the street IN FRONT of the bus then proceed with the route. I don’t know why everyone keeps saying kids should learn not to cross In Front of a bus… that’s actually the right way to cross.

You is definitely right I don't move my bus to my kids where they need to be I tell my kids don't run to my bus just try n be there on time at your stop because I'm working for y'all I will never get in a rush picking up my kids or unloading them just the thought of them getting hurt in my care will not sit right with meb

The driver has to see the kids getting off the bus, cant do that easily when two doors are being open. They are supposed to WAIT for the kids to be saflely AWAY from the bus before driving. What do you think the stop sign on the bus is for? Since you seem slow ill give you a hint.. so other drives know to STOP so kids can cross the street safely. None of the nonsense you commented makes any sense. 🙄 just takes a brain in the drivers head to keep the kids safe. If they fallow the rules of their job there would be no issue.

First off kids are suppose to learn how to Cross and You Say You a school bus driver well I was a student and Road the school bus and remember prefectly that when children need to Cross they are told to wait for the bus driver to signal them the OK TO CROSS a have kids too and have always seen bus drivers do exactly that and also wait a few before driving off

How someone responds to an error matters. When something like this happens, there should have been copious amounts of apology offered, without anyone asking, and a plan shared to keep this from happening in the future. But when the injured (or nearly injured) party is treated poorly, or like an inconvenience, that’s when things go crazy.

I live in Denton and my son is in Denton ISD. This is not surprising unfortunately. Their school buses break down every other week or the bus driver doesn’t show up to work and the bus is an hour late

Why aren’t they talking about the Corsicana little girl the one the driver dropped off by herself in the middle of no where and got lost for couple of hours, The little girl was walking and walking trying to fine home till a neighbor found her over at corsicana isd

Wow thanks for covering this. Considering no one wants to be a bus driver and we have a tremendous shortage of drivers and routes Im sure this media coverage will make it easier to find more qualified drivers in the future.

So why weren't the kids taught to not cross in front of the bus as somebody who drives a commercial vehicle for a living if you're shorter than the height of my hood I can't see you and those children were completely invisible to that driver don't people understand that he couldn't see that those children were there but those children should have been told to either wait for the bus to move or walk around behind it that's why a lot of buses have those arms That Swing Out to prevent children from walking into that Killzone right in front of the bus

no, that's not true. We have crossview mirrors for this specific reason. (the ones on each side of the front of the bus) It is much safer to cross in front of the bus because it is a barrier between the children crossing and any cars. If the bus leaves, most drivers assume that the kids are safe and drive on. I am upset the driver never fully stopped, and then when they realized what happened, they were to stop and make sure those kids were safe.

school bus is the opposite of that, you are supposed cross in front of the school bus after getting off if you need to go to the other side of street, hence the stop sign on it propped out, this person does not need to be a school bus driver if he cannot perform his ONE job duty.

Maybe for adults, but that's why we have to be responsible for kids' safety. The driver should have extended the bus' stop sign, then waited til all the kids had crossed safely. It's his job!
