Hi, this is John from the UK. I am 72 now so pretty much given up repairing motors. I agree with everything you have said in this tutorial. The only thing I wish you would do is get yourself a strong workbench to sit the engine on while you are working on it. I speak from bitter experience after having three back surgeries and now have titanium rods screwed to my spine. When I was your age I thought I was invincible but, over the years working on motors on the floor is really bad, not only for your back but also your knees. Respect brother.

@DENVERBEERANDOIL3 жыл бұрын
If you have a lift, dropping the subframe with the engine still attached is the most convenient, if not, best bet would be to take off the hood and front bumper, disconnect the engine/trans combo from the subframe and pull it up and out with a hoist, both cases if you're separating the engine from the trans it's easiest to get it all out. It'll take longer but still great

Hello...I have a 86 635 csi and it came with 125 hp on the dyno...so I figured turbocharge and this is the road I can not get off nor do I want...even though it is very expensive. I have some experiences that may be helpful to other dyi turbocharge converts. Do your best to stay away from TCD and put the parts together yourself. The TCD manifold might be the easiest to pick up and from there get a turbo that will give you the desired HP. Turbos are vital and the better quality is worth the extra dollar or two. The same for the ECU. Wiring should be stripped to essential OEM wires and everything else ECU harness. The clutch should be a match to the HP desired, Quality again is very important. Flywheel shaved 8 pounds Is a max. The exhaust should be 3 inches in and out. The exchanger should be as large as possible to ensure cool ram air. A racing cam must be timed to the number one piston and number one piston timed to TDC of the crank. Add meth if you want cheap HP, make sure it is a programmable module. Have the wastegate spring set to 20 psi and know your limit which should be set on the ECU for protection. Fuel and pump with the regulator are able to handle 50 plus psi. A Nuke fuel rail with large 80 psi injectors. High voltage coil, cool turbocharged applicable spark plugs. OEM wires. Tubing and piping secured. A good tuner with a dyno and you are off to the races. My next step is to hall off to a Haltech ECU turner for BMW 6 series. Cheers.
