Glad you like it! Yes the door sound on the E32 is so satisfying. My wife thinks I'm crazy for opening and closing the doors repeatedly! :D There is a new video coming soon where the doors can also be heard and they were nicely recorded (they sound even better with headphones). The "BMW 7er" plate is actually the plate used at dealerships in Germany. At first I wanted a plate that says "BMW 735iL" but there is no part number for it. The closest was "BMW 735Li" with is wrong. I then opted for the closest "BMW 7er" and a friend bought one for me in Germany.

@@ClassicBMWFanInQuebec Ooooff you are so lucky man lol! I have a E82 128 and I always wanted to put a "128i" German licence plate on the front but, its not a huge priority right now. And hahah I'm really glad you said you open and close the door repeatedly. Sometimes, I will push some of the buttons inside the car, or close the car doors over and over again just because I love the sound/feel of the buttons. BMW's especially the older ones, were made with so much love and attention to detail compared to the new ones.

@@gregoryoakley4441 Ah I didn't know that was the case for newer BMWs. Truth be told I never drove a modern BMW. Only an E34 525i and E32 in 735 and 750 form. All of them felt solid. If ever you want an official dealer plate that says "BMW 1er", this is the part number: 81 852339701.

@@ClassicBMWFanInQuebec Thank you for the part number :) I will keep that in mind! And yea, the E90 was the last era to have hydraulic steering. All the new BMW's have electric steering feel and they don't feel as connected. In my opinion, you have the superior built and feeling car. Plus, prices for old BMW's are going up every day. The E32 will be worth a good chuck of money one day!

My M30 has been overheating in idle, very slowly, I just did this job as well, replaced everything.. even the radiator and the coolant temp sensor and the engine is still overheating, not sure what else to check at this point.. but great video, very informative.

I'm about to start on this project myself! Tip on keeping gaskets in place, use small zip ties, get a few bolts started, and then cut the zip ties and pull them out, voila.

I hope the job will go well. I tried the zip ties method (saw it on M539 Restorations) but didn't like it. When replacing the oil pan cork gasket it moved too much even with zip ties. I ended up using a tiny amount of glue to hold it (any high tack sealant would work). That worked much better.

Merci du conseil! J'ai employé une mince couche de colle à quelques endroits lorsque j'ai installé le gasket de la pan à l'huile dernièrement. Ça a vraiment aidé. Je vais me procurer un produit fait expressément pour les gaskets.

Thanks for posting. I had trouble keeping the belts tight. I added a larger washer under the locking nut so I could tighten it more and that fixed it.

Nice job! One question though, how did you jack up the car in the center? Did you use the oil pan to jack the front up?

Thank you! No I do not jack the car on the oil pan, that would be a bad idea :) I would only use the oil pan if I want to jack the engine only, and only temporarily. I did the same for my 635csi. I had a hell of a time removing the pump and the thermostat housing. Used a grinder. It was harrowing.

I used an RTV to hold the gasket to the pump. I always wondered if that is correct. Seems to last. Cardboard is smart.

Hi B M, I did not remove the thermostat housing, only the cover. It's true that there is a paper gasket for the housing on the late M30B35 (11531722690), but I didn't remove it. I only removed the cover and for that there is an o ring which I've replaced (11531265084).

Excellent job! I am in the same stages of maintenance on my ‘89 735il. Thrust arms, control arms, sway bar end links, HVAC blower motor, dash display capacitors and I just finished doing the thermostat. I am soon going to replace water pump and fan clutch as well so very happy to see this video! I ran into an issue while on a road trip that my coolant by pass hose, the same one off of the pump, split under the clamp. Quite the mess haha. Yours looks to be in much better shape than mine was. I was wondering if you have had trouble with power steering? I cleaned the screen for the torque converter on the steering gear box and got a good month out of it but I think the transistors blew in the servotronic control module itself. I currently have the servotronic control module bypassed ( locates behind speaker kicker panel) and have max power assist for city driving and disconnect it for highway. I tried soldering in new transistors but no luck. Any insight? Again great video! Cheers from Newfoundland

Thanks for the kind words! Good to see another Canadian taking care of a 735 :) I also changed the blower motor, and only the light bulbs in the gauge cluster. No suspension component yet (other than tie rod assemblies, for the alignment); it's an expensive refresh and I don't quite have the funds for it! The water pump is easy, except for that paper gasket; you won't have any problems. I haven't had any issues with the power steering, no. It's effortless at low speeds and firms up at higher speeds, it's a great system. I would try sourcing a known-good servotronic control unit before diving into the actual steering components. Which brand of suspension components did you use, and are you satisfied with them? I would like to get TRW or Lemforder parts, but availability isn't the best in Canada. Thanks again for watching!

Classic BMW Guy In Quebec I bought a new servotronic from France for 15 euro off eBay and unfortunately it did not work either. I have a pile of transistors so hopefully I just need more practise soldering! As for suspension I too was a little short for funds so I compromised on OEM parts where I thought I could. I bought parts from rockauto, I went with Delphi aluminum control arms and steel Delphi thrust arms, however I pressed in quality lemforder thrust arm bushings. Sway bar end links are Delphi ( super cheap like 12$ cad). Tie rod ends are lemforder and centre link is Delphi. I have not installed the tie rods or centre link yet. I’ve also got lemforder rear sway bar end links to install and uro parts rear dog bone control arm link. I am weary of using anything uro parts but mine are in bad shape so anything was better haha.

@@bmp130 I also buy from Rockauto, so choice is sometimes limited. You read all these horror stories about using non-OE parts on the forums, how the suspension will break within a year or two etc. But looking at prices at shop.bmw.ca or FCP Euro (with shipping) makes you ponder. The OE stuff is really expensive in Canada. How does the car ride with the updated suspension parts? Is it improved? And also, does your transmission make a whining sound in first and second gear? You can hear it in my video when I drive around, not sure if it's normal.

Classic BMW Guy In Quebec yeah I try to avoid Uro but get stuck sometimes. The new suspension pieces made a big difference. I should also mention I went through and replaced front brake calipers as one was dragging occasionally . That in combination with worn front end caused bad shimmy between 80-95km/hr. Tie rods and a good alignment should button up the front end. I still am chasing down minor vibrations but I believe it to be centre carrier bearing for drive axle, which would also explain clunking when shifting to reverse. I also experience about the same whine from the transmission in low gears. I’ve read on a few forum posts that whine and noise from the transmission is the beginning of the end for it haha, but have yet to come across anyone with an e32 that doesn’t whine a bit so I think we are both okay!

Thanks Peter :) I buy parts from different sources depending on what I need. The coolant and thermostat I bought at the BMW dealer for instance. The water pump I bought on eBay. It doesn't matter where the part is bought. As long as it's a reliable manufacturer with high quality.

It really depends where you are located. A BMW dealership will have most parts but will be the most expensive. Specialty online shops sell the same parts often for less money. Try to find one located in your region.

Ok great. When you turn on the AC, does the auxiliary fan come on? You can see the aux fan if you look through the front kidney grille. Also you should hear it running.
