I saw the Devotional Tour in 1993 in Portugal when I was 13 (dragged my dad along, which is what teenage girls in any generation do). When Martin sang this song I was in love. And I mean full-on teen mode, crying and screeching "I love yous" at him. 23 years later and I can tell you there always be a special place in my heart for him and this song.

This is one of Martin's most underrated and darkest songs...he ever wrote or performed. Always thought it was film theme worthy. I have made some short films in a psych drama series where DM music inspired much of the edit and the dark story itself. always inspired by these men.

One Caress Well I’m down on my knees again And I pray to the only one Who has the strength To bear the pain To forgive all the things that I’ve done Oh Girl Lead me into your darkness When this world is trying it’s hardest To leave me unimpressed Just one caress From you and I’m blessed When you think you’ve tried every road Every avenue Take one more look At what you found old And in it you’ll find something new I’m shying from the light I always loved the night And now you offer me eternal darkness I have to believe that sin Can make a better man It’s the mood that I am in That left us back where we began.

Great live performance of arguably the band's most overtly Gothic moment. The "One Caress" music video is an evocative work of art. It's dark visual style matches the suspenseful tone of the towering string composition. The lyrics are among the most provocative Martin L Gore has ever written! Dropping ambigious hints at themes such as addiction & suicide, "One Caress" to me is a song which seems to be about death (via suicide) as a means to redeem a guilty soul. That the narrator (Gore) believes "sin can make a better man" speaks volumes as he is open to an offer of "eternal darkness". "One Caress" is driven by haunting strings which increase in both tempo & intensity as the song progresses. Martin L Gore sings wonderfully on what is my personal favourite Martin L Gore led song of Depeche Mode's career.

@VotreBetiseFR it's possible that video and sound are not from the same exact performance. possible thay take best video and best sound from the tour and attach together. But, you can be sure, Martin voice it's really always perfect, and i talk as a musicians. Dave's voice it's powerful and strong, but often out from the tune. Martin sings always perfect. So, you can continue to admire this awesome man!!! :) sorry for my english, too.
He has a very strong powerful voice and the music is hauntingly beautiful. I'm thankful that bass guitarist #TommyJoeRatliff (who plays for #Adam Lambert on Glam Nation Tour) peaked my interest in this musician. Where can I find videos of his more recent stuff? And as for @USCUSCTrojan's comment - Sooooo what. Let the beautiful talented singer be and go hatebash yourself in a dark corner for being such an annoying little twit
