Hey, thanks for your comment and I'm very happy to hear the videos have been so helpful 😊 Firstly, please make sure that you’re speaking to your parents about what’s happening. It’s very important that they know what’s going on. Secondly, I know DP can be frightening but remember that it's just your body and brain's natural response to stress and anxiety. It's not permanent and it can't hurt you. You can and will recover. Make sure to read through all the info and articles on my website at www.dpmanual.com And if you would like to speak to a medical professional please don't hesitate to do so. I would recommend finding an anxiety specialist if possible as they will likely be more familiar with DP 👍

Thanks Shaun your manual, videos and feedback are so helpful. Thanks to you I went from 24/7 DP (with some DR symptoms) for a little over a month no break at all it was awful, to slowly having more “normal” days between, it started with one day a week maybe then progressed to more better days. These days I’m having mostly DR moments but only about once every two weeks if that, but I don’t dwell on them and I continue with my day even though it’s hard sometimes. I went from wanting to die to almost full recovery (I say that because I truly believe I’m near the end of this and I know my recovery is coming!) and it’s all because of your help. -Amber H.

I have suffered from DP for about 6 months now and it all started when I was smoking weed heavily. overtime I began to feel unreal and I felt like I was in a dream constantly and I couldn't leave my house. after that I decided to stop using marijuana so I took a couple month break from it. eventually when I was feeling normal again I decided to use marijuana again and it was some of the strongest stuff you can buy. I took two hits and about 5 mins later I started to hallucinate and hear things that weren't there it was the scariest thing I have ever experienced, now almost two months later I am still having DP and I cant stop thinking about it. thank you for making these videos.

I’m afraid of not being able to interact with my interests, the sensation of having no emotional connections to them prevents me from getting engrossed. In this state I sometimes feel like I’m completely desensitized to my emotions, thoughts, and fears. I’m also afraid of neglecting these interests as well, that they will fade for those other reasons. I remember last time I was still able to distract myself with some of my interests, certain games, comics, and KZbin videos. But those same hobbies and interests just don’t feel right anymore, and that I can’t reach that level of engrossingness. Like this “wrongness” overtakes me and i simply don’t know what to do. I feel like I can’t draw anymore because I loved drawing, like I can’t watch sci-fi or read comics anymore because I loved those things, that I can’t watch my favorite streamers/content creators anymore because I enjoyed it before. This sensation that I’m deriving no pleasure or enjoyment from them is much too strong. I’m also afraid of not being able to care about things that happen that I should care about, both in real life and in fiction. How do I alleviate this? How do I keep myself from feeling like that?

This is so interesting. I’m not diagnosed, but I started with DR about 15 years ago, I had suffered prolonged bullying & anxiety in the workplace, then I left & started a new job. In the great new job, I think I had PTSD, a delayed reaction. started getting DR, feeling like I was in a fish bowl looking out. I looked at my computer screen & everything was jumbled and I didn’t understand what I was looking at. The attacks started coming in waves, one after another. Gradually it settled and stopped. Fast forward 15 years, I began getting DP, usually when I was a bit stressed about travelling and I almost always get it on vacations. It starts where I’m trying to remember something in my head, then i realise I don’t recognise the thoughts as my own, this feels so horrible and frightening & a feeling of detachment from everything, but I know it will pass, so I try to relax and let it go it’s natural way. It happened on a flight once, when I was anxious about driving a car in a strange country. Just wanted to share my experience, if it helps anyone.

Great content man! I feel like I'm passed from being really freaked out by dpdr to tolerating it even thought I still don't like it. I wouldn't call it full acceptance but it's a definite improvement. I've been in the intense anxiety cycle for about a year. I had major cardiophobia and physical symptoms for about eight months and when that began to recover, i got with dpdr which Ive had for about three months. I'm just curious if your experience was similar or not, I know we all get hit by anxiety differently so I'm more or less just curious. Thanks again, your content has helped me a lot with this part of the process.

@Dpmanual
@Dpmanual 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for your comment 😊 I know DP can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and anxiety, and people experience it all the time. The National Institute on Mental Illness estimates that up to 75% of people experience at least one depersonalization / derealization episode in their lives. It's part of your brain's natural defence mechanism and usually it only lasts a few seconds or minutes at a time. It's only when it's focused on as a separate problem (feeling like you're going crazy / in a dream etc) that it can turn into a feedback loop with the anxiety that caused it in the first place. But no matter what caused it or how long you've had it, you can always switch it off completely by stopping that anxious feedback loop. Make sure to carefully read through all the articles and info on my website at www.dpmanual.com

One day I just got too sick tired and fed up of obsessing over these thoughts and I just didn't care anymore. I don't know if it's gone or not but now I just laugh at how these thoughts were triggering me it just sounds so silly now. But from time to time I still get the worries. Hi Shaun, my name is Kyle and my thereapist believes I am suffering from PTSD and DP/DR. The main reason I sought out therapy and psychiatry was because on the Thursday before this last Christmas I experienced a severe change in my memory, cognition and my ability to visualize and imaging things in my minds eye. I've taken several cognition and memory tests and I did well on all of them. I have developed many of the fears you have talked about and can identify with a lot of what you have said in your videos. Years ago I purchased the DP manual and you and I exchanged a email or two. I wanted to ask you if you have had experience dealing with yourself or hearing from clients the issues I stated above. Particularly about not being to use my imagination or visualize things very well in my minds eye. I'm in a very bad state and I feel like I am stuck this way and will never be able to heal. Years ago I had an experience that I felt changed my consciousness and the way I experience the world around me. I did so much research trying to figure out what had happened to me but I was never able to find any answers that explained what I had and was experiencing besides DP. I could identify with some of it but not all of it. I'm sorry I rambled. I hope you read this and I'm thankful for your vids.

At first i thought im still high becouse my symptoms have been going on since I ate weed edibles and next day after a sleepless night i was constantly checking if "high" feeling gone. Can you please assure me that is DP symptoms ? Thank you again for your work!!!

Depersonalization Derealisation from a bad weed experience feel like your whole vision has zoomed in by half an inch and everything completely looks different and you can't get back to where you were. You get all these bad scary thoughts like what happens when we die why do I keep crying over pointless things I am such a failure all those types of feelings/thoughts. Dpdr feels mostly annoying now cause it's just persistent 24/7 there's only some days where I feel 50% real 50% fake and those days feel great I deep down know that I'm never gonna recover and I just need to adapt to the new norm. Quiet sounds sound louder and it makes me panic trying to find out if I'm hearing things or not then I get paranoid.

I’m 21 now, and I know this condition is meant to be temporary but it’s been my whole life. It got worse last year when I ended up having mental breakdowns and being suicidal. I’ve since got happier and managed to change my mind with psychedelics, and it probably saved my life. I still suffer massively with symptoms though and now I don’t know what to do to heal from the condition. Now I know what it is, will that itself speed up the process? Thanks

Hi there -- Firstly, I would strongly suggest that you go and seek professional help to address the trauma of your experience as a child. Secondly, in terms of the DPDR, remember that ultimately it's just a symptom of anxiety. But no matter how long you've had it, you can always switch it off completely by stopping that anxious feedback loop. Make sure to carefully read through all the articles and info on my website at www.dpmanual.com and my book The Depersonalization Manual. I relate to all the symptoms you’ve described and what I can advice is stop trying so hard to remember cos there’s nothing wrong with you or your memory. You just have so much going on in your head and focusing on how you feel only makes it worse. Get into your normal routine, live your life against all odds and slowly you’ll start feeling better. I’m not 100% yet but boy I’m way better than I was some weeks back. I couldn’t sleep or eat or see a movie or stay in a car, but now I can sleep 7 hours straight! I sometimes forget about the whole thing and in those moments I’m just me.

Question? Hello, to whomever reads this. i have been suffering from dpdr for a few months now, first off i would like to say to people who are suffering from dpdr that it does go away no matter your situation you will be free of it it just takes time. but my real question is has anyone had very disturbing thoughts and feelings about death and the universe or how language was formed or how humans came to exist, very deep existential thoughts that not only really twist up the mind but also cause a flare of anxiety. i ask because it seems to be the worst aspect of the experience for me that causes the most anxiety and is there a way to accept these thoughts, i know once upon a time i loved space and our solar system and had such a hope for humans to become interstellar, but now those types of thoughts are so scary and just fake feeling i guess. can anyone relate to this and give some feedback on your experience with these types of thoughts, also if you have recovered from dpdr how do you feel about those thoughts now. also Shaun through his videos has talked me out of many spirals and really set me on the track to feel better about dpdr which i am forever grateful for, Thank you Shaun truly.

Hey Rahil, thanks for your comment 😊 I know DP can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and anxiety, and people experience it all the time. Make sure to carefully read through all the articles and info on my website at www.dpmanual.com And if you would like to speak to a medical professional please don't hesitate to do so. I would recommend finding an anxiety specialist if possible as they will likely be more familiar with DP 👍

Hey Shaun. I've had depersonalization since 12 from just being near too many people and anxiety in general last year I had that severe mental breakdown that left me with persistent dpdr for 1 whole year and I'm still going through it but now I feel like I'm back at square one again. If I've always had depersonalization how am I gonna recover from it being persistent if I already had it from the start?

Hey Sean! I’ve been told I have Depersonalization but think I’ve gotten over it, but I don’t know if I have. I have the constant fear that I have CTE at age 17 which is highly unlikely because my memory is so bad and my emotions are so off. Of course I’m binge google symptoms. Do you think these are just linger effects of the condition? Thanks for reading, and much love!

Hey, thanks for your comment. Firstly, please make sure that you’re speaking to your parents about what’s happening. It’s very important that they know what’s going on. Secondly, I know DP can be frightening but remember that it's just your body and brain's natural response to stress and anxiety. It's not permanent and it can't hurt you. You can and will recover. And don't worry, concentration + memory issues are very common with DP 😊 I know they can be frustrating but they will fade away and stop as your recovery continues: www.dpmanual.com/articles/depersonalization-and-memory-loss/ And if you would like to speak to a medical professional please don't hesitate to do so. Hi Shaun, in your experiences with these conditions have you felt like you were going to have a seizure? I often do, although I never actually have had a seizure, however it feels like I experience the build-up towards one, and it's a very unpleasant feeling which gives me horrendous anxiety because of the fear of it happening again.

Hello! i recently have been seeing some videos but would like to ask out for help! I've been trying to calm it off but recently i got the small thought of "what if im in a coma" and suddenly got the feeling that i might be not leaving reality, just over a panic over something else that happened, and i haven't calmed down for some days since then, and i feel dizzy or unusual, uneasy and feeling like im disconnected from reality and thinking that i might not be feeling real things with my own hands and think im in coma, yet i may not know how one works because im still pretty young, and i have been feeling weirded out and trying to get help at least to get it off my back at least, i don't wanna experience it for a long time and i can't even really experience sleep now.
