Amazing work! Not sure if you've covered this yet but have you tried or considered something like painting multiple thick layers of Flex Seal to help reduce spalling? That way it could be reapplied easily enough.

Def not ar500 must of got mixed up when they cut it. If you can somehow make a steel outline to go around the edge it should stop the fragments from comming out

I’m sure you figured it out by now, but 1/4 inch ar500 is good for up to .45.

Was it 223 or 5.56 nato? There is a difference. 223 dose 55,000psi and 5.56 nato is whipping out a bit faster at 58,000 psi. And the 5.56 is .125” longer. The reason I ask is you said 5.56 , then changed to .223.
