The UniFi Express is definetly one of the most innovative device Ubiquiti has released to market in several years. The UniFi Express can be deployed as either a full UniFi console like a UDR or a dream machine pro, with some limitations, or as an access points but with several tricks up its sleeve.
In this Deploy UniFi Express as an Access Point video we will see how This new UniFi Express can be deployed as an access point and we will see one trick this device has up its sleeve. Once the UniFI Express has been adopted using a wire, it will act as regular access point with 2x2 MIMO WiFi 6 capable of supporting up to 60 wireless devices.
When you Deploy UniFi Express as an Access Point by wireless meshing to a different WiFi access point, the LAN port on the UniFi express can be used to provide wired connectivity to wired clients.
Deploying UniFi express in general is recommended to relatively small networks and keep in mind the UniFi Express can only run UniFi network and no other application like protect or access. UniFi Network only.
In this video where we Deploy UniFi Express as an Access Point, i have also performed a wifi speed test and the results are very well withing par with similar caliber wifi 6 access points. keep in mind that the UniFi Express, unlike other WiFi access points that are just access points, the UniFi Express is also a UniFi console and so its computing power is also running a heavier firmware.
In upcoming video, we will deploy the UniFi Express as a gateway and we will see how this UniFi Express console differs from other consoles like the UDR or the UniFi Dream Machine Pro.

Great video! Do you really need to reset the router to be adopted as an accesspoint? Reason for asking is I use the router when i'm on holiday (Starlink) and want it to plug it in at home (LAN port only) to act as an accesspoint only, without losing the whole config.

Hi, can I use Unifi Express in gateway mode and connect Unifi Access Point (AC AP Lite) wirelessly using meshing or wireless uplink? I'm deciding to expand WiFi signal coverage and choosing an additional AP with an existing Unifi Controller or UnifiExpress that acts like a controller and Access Point.

Wow very cool! I am having issues running ethernet to add a AP to my Dream Router. This might be the solution I need to extend my network! What VLAN does the unifi express default the LAN port to? That is a bummer it can't be configured, but still a cool solution overall.

I imagine that the vlan configuration will be added in a future firmware update but that's just my assumption. The lan port will default to same vlan the unifi express is connected to
