For all of 2024, me and my wife really 'pinched our pennies' and we were able to pay both our house and our bugout location off. We are now completely DEBT FREE, minus having to pay property taxes, homeowner's insurance, and utilities. For 2025: our plan is to save up to have several different emergency funds/accounts. We want to save enough money that will let us pay for our next (used) vehicle with cash.... and also emergency accounts in case we have to have our re-roofed, furnace replaced, etc. :)

I am remembering when TV was free and it went off the air so everyone could sleep. If you missed your show you had to wait for summer reruns . Also remembering the joy when there was a snow storm and you got to stay home from school and you got all dressed up in snow pants to go out and play. Was a mandatory requirement when there were eight kids with a snow day . My goal is to spend less .Fill my virtual shopping cart and never check it out .

For me, 2025 will be a very low spend year. I won't be purchasing clothes, shoes, very limited eating out (special occasion only), no makeup purchases, no salon visits, no more dying my hair, I am growing out my natural grey. No summer concerts unless it's free. My goal, to save 10K this year.

We are trying our first no spend month...January 2025....we are in our 70's. We are going to have to replace the transmission in our truck because it went out on Christmas. We have our emergency fund to fix it but we want to pay ourselves back quickly. If you can find a Speed Queen washer (simple without all the electronics, but they are pricey)...give it try...best item we have bought in 52 years of marriage. Love your new glasses and they look great. We are trying 1 piece peanut butter toast for breakfast with decaf at home. We are trying small lunch of protein (cottage cheese or leftover meat) and veggies....can't wait for garden season. Supper...meat and oven roasted veggies...try to cook for 2-3 days at a time. Our goal is to downsize our home more during the winter months with a yard sale in the Spring. We hope to age in place over the next years of our lives and simplifying makes that easier. We got rid of cable and went with antenna this past year...pays for itself in 10 months and then we are saving $175.00 a month. Yay! Life is Good! We saved all our life for retirement but our wants are few now that we are here. Being content with what you have and enjoying a simple life is the greatest gift you can give yourself! Happy New Year! We truly enjoy your posts!

My neighbour's cat......who is an outdoor (neglected) cat......came into my home. 1/2 hour later, I was an Aunty. I couldn't take her out because they wouldn't look after the kittens. She had 3. One died after a day, one was 1 month old. I don't know what happened but she was screaming on the day she died (siezures). The last one, who was the middle in size, survived and she is the most beautiful cat in the world. She's 5 months now and I am a senior. She's into her terrible teenaged years. Zooms, bites me to all get out and is a terror by nature. I have trouble feeding myself, but haven't decided to adopt her out. I am afraid to give her to a shelter. I have been fighting fleas for 5 months. I had a dog for almost 17 years and never, but once, had an issue. This little bundle of joy has them all the time. From her outdoor mama, no doubt. The mama is such a sweet cat. I brought her in last summer during a heat wave. She drank and drank water and passed out on my couch. My home is so quiet and full of peace and this cat slept for hours. She was safe and didn't have to worry about survival. According to my neighbour, she doesn't want to stay in the house, but their house is chaos. She doesn't want to leave my house, but I have mobility issues and it is hard enough for me to clean. I worry about mama, she is the sweetest cat to me. On Christmas, she was at my door.......I gave her grownup food and some treat food. I haven't seen her since. Moral of the story? I'm not sure, but be loving to strays and neglected animals. Happy New Year!

This may be too big of an upfront expense but I bought a Lehman’s wringer washer in September, $1,300. I’ve had horrible luck with washers ( from the cheapest to expensive Speed Queens also $1,300). We were out of power for over two weeks from hurricane Helene so I bit the bullet and bought the washer. I wish I’d bought one years ago! It gets clothes cleaner, no power needed, you use very little water and you can reuse that water. Anyway, I found your channel a few weeks ago and I’m enjoying it very much. It looks like South Ga in some of your walks and you describe your weather as being similar to ours (here in South Ga!). Happy New Year!

saw your washing machine gave up the ghost. that is difficult. Have learned how to wash a comforter with no machine. You can wash it in bathtub. soak it in water for a while. add a bit of soap and than just walk back and forth on it. you will be amazed at how much dirt comes out. drain. add fresh water walk again to remove soap. frain out all water and walk on it to help remove as much water as possible. than hang outside to dry. it is pretty heavy. if that is too much for you ther is always the washeteria. best of luck.

I’ve been doing the OMAD (one meal a day) fasting since 2022. When I started, I weighed 157 lbs. I have lost 40 lbs., but it goes up and down whenever my family brings in a bunch of “junk” full of sugar, or pizza, etc., or when my husband and I eat out which is only on Sunday’s after church, or when he makes humongous meals for our adult children, their spouses, and our grandchildren for the holidays. It’s very difficult to “eat right” when your family is close by. I get vegetables at the local farmers market on a regular basis. In 2022, I slowly weaned myself off the soft drinks, started “teaching” my body it was going to LOVE green tea, water, and a healthy amount of electrolytes!! That task has become successful (yay!!), and I have recently “trained” my body to LOVE lemon in my green tea AND water; I’ve never liked anything with lemon in it!! However, my body actually loves lemon in my green tea and water!! My husband has finally hopped on a slower “health ship” than I’m on, but he’s doing really well, that makes it much easier for my weekly meal plans. 🙌🏻😉

Like you, I have stocked up on essentials (clothing, medical, food, etc.), but to last for a longer time - at least six months. I bought a 23 qt. 12V refrigerator/freezer and a separate, smaller 12V refrigerator/freezer to use only for ice packs to keep food cold in a large, well insulated ice chest. I still need to sanitize and fill a 55 gallon water container, which I hope is all I will need. I still need to purchase an e-trike (I'm 76 years old with multiple handicaps, so that's the best choice for me), a larger solar panel, and more vegetable and herb seeds. I have very little sunlight on my small property due to the neighbors' trees, so I am going to rely mostly on micro greens. I have some extra gasoline and cash stashed away and also a few bartering items: moist towelettes, matches, vodka, canned tuna and meat, cocoa, coffee, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, salt and pepper - things that don't take much room to store and last a long time. My focus for 2025 is to fortify my emotional resilience and friendships to better weather the coming storms.

My goal this year is not to buy anything on Amazon & only the essential items (like cat litter, cat & dog food) from Walmart…I’m going to use up all the food items I have on hand-so I won’t be cooking anything fancy😊I love your videos-I’m learning so much…✌🏻

This year I am doing a “make it from scratch” challenge….mostly food. Things like mayo, spice mixes and rubs, bread from fresh milled wheat berries, dried herbs (but I was already doing some of that; haven’t had to buy oregano or basil in years) I am starting sourdough, my own apple scrap vinegar, and lemon balm tea. I also make my own deodorant (which is more effective than anything I have ever tried ✔️) You get the idea :) Have a blessed year!!

I couldn't believe it when I read your comment! Someone else out there in the big wide world who also makes their own deodorant. I don't feel like such a loner now. 🙂 I, too, am making my own bread, vinegar, tooth powder, etc. I feel it's much healthier since I control what goes in (and what doesn't). Plus, it's kinda fun.

I am so glad you are keeping your pets. So many people are just "dropping" them off somewhere. I rescue animals and that just drives me crazy. I went one whole summer without tv and survived fine. Did more reading from the library and we do have a working DVD we use for movies right now. I unfortunately have some severe allergies to two foods, cows milk and eggs so those foods are out. I do have alternatives that I now use and are actually cheaper than those foods. No new clothes, shoes etc. My clothes are fine, older but appropriate. There are many alternatives to tv and investing in learning something new is what I do. I am learning a new crochet stitch to crochet around pieces of fleece to make blankets for gifts. I love your channel and attitude. Your glasses look great! Thanks for all the tips.

My cat is my top priority when it comes to care and finances. I chose to take him home and I owe him the best life possible. I buy his medication before I buy mine, I get his food and treats and litter before I get my groceries. I have options if it gets really bad, he doesn't. I'll never understand people who treat pets as disposable items.

This year my focus is mostly on decluttering, the first step in this adventure is having a white elephant at our holiday family get together. It's a pot luck and along with bringing food I told everyone to bring an empty box because our white elephant is not an exchange it's just a take away. I have carefully laid out all the good stuff I don't need anymore and and if there is stuff left over I have asked my family to help out to drop off at charity centers. Both my husband I are disabled so this will be a great help to us.

You look great in those glasses! Bread pudding is the best way I found to use up eggs and it's cheap. Sweet with fruit added or savory with veggies. Would Waldo eat an egg? I like voices in my environment too - radio works. People give away laundry appliances when replacing with a shiny new set. Or really cheap like $100. Ours are used, free, and lasted 18 years so far. All the best to you for 2025 - you are a blessing to so many people!

Happy New Year!! 😁😁 Goals for this year include daily exercise, continue getting rid of excess I don’t need, continue to work on shrinking expenses (this is actually fun for me - see how little I can get by with) and plump up my emergency fund.

I'm doing a low spend January to start. Certain things I can't avoid like prescriptions. But there are so many ways I can reduce spending, no buying second hand books, thrifted clothes and just staying away from those places. I will use what I already have.

Glasses look great on you!!! And, thanks, you’ve really encouraged me to cut back. I gave all my chickens away because they were costing me over $100/month for feed when we only eat 1-2 dozen eggs/month & couldn’t bring myself to send them to freezer camp.

Since my husband had a stroke, April 2023, and is in long term care, I'm definitely on a no spend year. I'm wearing all my clothes and using up what I have. Since covid I have alot of canned goods. Using up everything and cleaning and organizing my belongings.

I don't turn on my heat until it's below freezing. When I do turn it on, my thermostat is set at 66. It comes on only a handful of times in 24 hours. I live in a two story house and have two ac's/heaters. My electric bill has been $120.00 a month. Call me cheap, however, i have all that extra money to put in a savings and I only invest 300.00 a month in a mutual funds. So far, I have been doing very well and gaining not losing. I have no debt except for utilities. I love this life! I have no job just social security. My dogs have all adapted to the temps in the home. It's very comfortable. Sure wishbi could find someone who thinks like me. I only spent Christmas on the dogs.
