The absolute saving grace of this production is the brilliant interpretation of the score by Simone Young. Her prowess as an expert in Strauss really shines and is clearly in the spotlight. She is faithful to every nuance and each tender suggestion of longing in the tempo. Obviously she has listened to the master conductor, Leonard Bernstein, whose rich and rewarding performance at the Vienna Philharmonic is legendary and perfect. I am utterly and truly grateful to her for not taking modern liberties, or trying to make her mark on a classic by interjecting odd timing or emphasis. The pace was perfect, the voices sublime and I am overjoyed. Even the Baron was a little more charming tonight. Phew! Thank you !

I, for one, found GG's Vienna dialect performance brilliant, and evolved from what it was in 2017. The portrayal of the 3rd act inn as an out-and-out brothel (and Faninal as a war profiteer) went with GG's harsh rendition of Ochs. (Note that some great basses of yesteryear have avoided Ochs because they couldn't do justice to the dialect.

Günther Groissböck singt mit schiefem Mund. Nicht gut, um den Ton an die Öffentlichkeit zu projizieren. Er ist sehr sexy.

Agree 100%. As though he has trouble with the last note..although it is almost the lowest bass note humanly possible. The shape of the mouth determines the tone and projection. Come now, Gunther!

I don't recall Baron Ochs being quite so brutal. He was more tongue -in-cheek rascal, less sociopathic. There was romance to his tone. Even if he was self-important, he was a lover, after all. This is harsh. And the low E in "Lang" is the counterpoint to the soaring highs of the Marschallin. It is the note we're all waiting for. Please give it its full glory.

Polisch... O, ho ho!... METO!... Przypomnę... KAWALERA SREBRNEJ RÓŻY tuż po jej powstaniu śpiewały ówczesne Wielkie =OPERGWIAZDY= (w translacji z języka polskiego na język angielski) OPERSTAR bo było co śpiewać! Hugon von Hofnannshtal (librecista) I... sam Wielki Richard Strauss dają oto KOMEDIĘ! publika zrazu nie wiedziała... czy to "SZKANDAŁ" (jak u Zapolskiej w Krakowie) czy to CYRK!... szybko jednak... sprawa się "rypła" gdyż arie Straussa były chwilami... niebotycznie trudne i solistom... NIE DO ŚMIECHU ... No i tak... KAWALERA SREBRNEJ RÓŻY wystawia dziś Metropolitan Opera™... Sygnuję Andrzej Celmer Zajączkowski 25 03 2023 Ps Bawcie się dobrze! ♥️
