Long, forgotten Der Weinerschnitzel song that I can't find anywhere on youtube, or on the internet...so I had to sing it from memory...If anyone else remembers this, let me know!

The one we used to sing all the time was in a faux German beer-barrel oompah style. It went, "Der Wienerschnitzel, Wienerschnitzel, deez must be dee place, so drive right in and put a great big hot dog in your face! (The "deez" and "dee" are phonetic translations of what they sang rather than actual German words.) They also "rolled" the "d" on "drive", the "r" on "right", and the "gr" on great..Been looking for it for years!

I was just singing it for a few friends and wanted to validate it, this helps a little, lol. I remember this from growing up in Southern California.

Lol, the restaurant was across the street from Coronado, but I remember the other song. Part of it was, "the fixings are delightful, there's fun in biteful. At your happy Derweinerschnitzel, yum, yum, hotdogs!"

I remember that. Whenever I would be in the car driving around with my mother, and it would come on the radio, I would always sing along to it.

I've been searching online for that commercial for years. I remember it being pretty low budget, so it's probably lost to the ages. That song's been stuck in my head for over 40 years now. Why can't we find this online? Censored? Thanks. Think it was "stuff" or "put", not "get".

I agree. It was "stuff".

Interesting. The commercial I most remember from the 1960s featured a stereotypical WWI-era German man (complete with a bushy moustache and Pickelhaube helmet) driving a VW convertible into a Weinerschnitzel drive thru. The song I remember went something along the lines of what you remember. It went ... "Wienerschnitzel! Wienerschinitzel! This must be the place! Just drive right in and they'll throw a hot dog in your face!" At which point the guy would get a hot dog literally shoved in his mouth through the drive through window.

I grew up in Lubbock, and when I was 7, I won a free Der Weinerschnitzel hotdog by singing the jingle on the radio station. It was one of those deals where you had to be the 8th caller (or whatever). I don't remember the tune, but I don't think this was the one. Thanks, tho.

the yum yum yum version was maybe on the West Coast? @HMBJoanie - you really got those lyrics down pat!

No, no, no(not that one)...the one I used to hear on the radio went something like: "the fixings are delightful, there's fun in every bite-ful, happy-happy wienerschnizel...yum-yum HOTDOG!"...anybody remember?(was played often in the SoCal region during the 70s).

I remember that one. Here is some of the lyrics I remember. “ come come come to der wienerschnizel, come to der wienerschnizel. We’ve got the happiest hotdogs around. Our hotdogs are delightful there’s fun in every bite full. At your happy wienerschnizel! Come come! “ I know there’s more but I can’t remember.

I grew up in Lubbock and remember that jingle! I was looking around for it and couldn't find it either. There was another stanza besides the one mentioned here. What I remember is this: Der Wienerschnitzel, wienerschnitzel This must be the place Just drive right in and put a great big hot dog in your face. Der Wienerschnitzel, wienerschnitzel Ja it's lots of fun. For nineteen cents you get a great big hot dog on a bun! (Note: the price might be off - this is from memory and it's been fifty years after all. And it's sung with a mock-German accent so "Ja" is pronounced "Yah")

OMG! Rich Eaton and Viking Knight, thank you! I have been looking for the words and commercial for this song! I told my son about the commercial where a hot dog and hamburger are singing and dancing to this song. I tried to sing it, he just looked at me weird. I was beginning to think I made it up!

Yep, I remember that one. My goofy friend and I used to sing it in high school everytime a hot dog reference was noted.

well, since we're talking about searching youtube in vain, the veinerschnizel commercial I can't find anywhere is from about 1983, give or take, and it has the Sabre Dance by Aram Khachaturian for the background music. Don't remember the details of the ad itself, probably dancing multiplying hot dogs or something, but the music was great and the ad used it really well. Anyone else remember this?
@johnfackeldey96089 жыл бұрын
YES thank you HMBJoanie - i thot i was the only one, but couldn't recall ALL the words. Of COURSE it was a west coast thing; they first opened EARLY '60s on Pacific Coast Hwy like Jack in the Box who not only ran local commercials but a kids cartoon TV show from LA with 'Jack' as the host - anyone else remember THAT?

Schnitzel is tenderized deep fried veal. Usually served with potato salad or noodles. It was so popular, fraud became rampant. If the word was used to advertise anything containing pork, it had to be "Schnitzel arte vom schwein" under penalty of law. Here, "weiner" was used instead - I remember the kaiser guy, and the cartoonish hot dogs with voice by mel blanc as well, Very few of these old ads can be found anywhere.
@robinanson72179 жыл бұрын
Written by Gene Moss (Smokey the Bear and other wonderful voices) and Jim Thurman (Electric Company, MathNet etc.) ... and together they also wrote the cartoon show, Roger Ramjet! Der Weinerschnitzel was probably out in 68 or 69.

@HMBJoanie, Wow, I've never heard that version! Was that from the 60's or 70's? Maybe the version that I sing was a "local" thing, and wasn't used nationwide? Thanks for your response!

@HMBJoanie Yes Yes Yes. This was the best song they had.
