This takes me back to when I was 18 and spent a summer in France, living in a small medieval hilltop village. At the bottom of the hill, there was a bar/restaurant that had a jukebox. This is how I discovered Les Rita Mitsuko, hanging out with french teenagers in the the middle of the countryside. Thanks for the memories!

I tried to translate better the lyrics: Hey, Andy? Hey, Andy! It's a friend of mine who told me you were named Andy! I've been following you for a while, Andy! Hey, do you want to come to my home ? Or we can go to yours! Come on, Andy, tell me yes! Honey, Andy, tell me yes, Andy ! Honey, Andy, tell me yes, darling ! The weather is worsening Andy is upset about that Andy takes his umbrella Andy scratches the corner of his brow It's Andy Cap p Yes it's him Honey, Andy, tell me yes, Andy ! Honey, Andy, tell me yes, oh yes ! Andy hurries Andy is suspicious Andy hasn't made up his mind Does he want this ? Andy looks at the girl and smiles Andy is a polite boy Andy hasn't made up his mind Andy is suspicious Andy hurries And goes back home Andy always avoided trouble Andy hurries and is suspicious

It's so fun to see you discover the Rita Mistsouko again ! Les Rita Mitsouko were really big in France, if you put on one of their hits at a party everybody will scream all the lyrics. They are all cult classics here :) I would love to see you react to "les amants" and "la sorcière et l'inquisiteur" (this one is much more recent)

Yes it's clearly a pleasure to see someone discovering the Rita. I can't really remember what a shock it can be because I was 15 in 1986 when all my generation (and all the France) was caught by the power of the Rita. And it is still played in parties because it's so entertaining 25 years later ! (my god 25 ...)

I was young in the eighties and i remember when the Rita's appeared in the french musical landscape : at last a french group ( with french lyrics) who brought a fresh air, something new , more creative , original and in some way "underground" than the mainstream singers we could hear on the radio at this time. And also their visual universe was new, their first clips were made by one of the best french clipmaker of the moment; yes it was a little weird , but so unconventionnal :-) . Fred Chichin died a few years ago, but Catherine is still there and always a great singer ! Have a good day.

One thing that might be weird from a foreign perspective when you discover the Rita Mitsouko is when you find out how, for all their weird lyrics, post-punk aesthetics and general lack of artistic compromise they were universally beloved in France. People of all ages, cultural background and general taste loved them and respected their work. It really struck a chord with the french id.

It's about a girl who's hitting on Andy and literally asking him to have a quick one right now "Should we go back to mine? Or we could go back to yours... Come on, just says yes!" It's a pretty funny song really

I love that you like this group so much, it's been one of my favorite groups since i was 6 (circa 1986) Catherine Ringer & Fred Chichin were an amazing duo :) Their kids ( also make music in a formation called "Minuit" you'll easily recognise the parentage : Simone totally sounds like her mother vocally, and looks like a younger version of Catherine physically. Raoul Chichin, her bro, has more subtle ressemblance to both their parents. Their style is not exactly the same as their parents, but sometimes draw inspirations from it. The apples don't fall too far from the tree, as one says :)

Oh and if you like bizarre, weird french singers try some Philippe Katherine (Starting with "Louxor, J'adore" which is easily the most accessible one, Je Vous Emmerde, La banane) song or some Brigitte Fontaine (Les Zazous, Conne, L'incendie, Le Nougat...), or less weird but as talented musically : Jacques Higelin or more recent than all these : Mathieu Chedid (Machistador, Le Complexe du Corn Flake, Je dis M, Onde Sensuelle)

Hey Derek!✌️ If you had access to a show by Madonna, Tina Turner, Kylie Minogue, Mylene Farmer, which one would you visit? Honestly! No commercial interests of mine! It's just interesting! Thank you for the answer! All this is not the answer! one show of all! Thanx! Kind regards! Alex!🎉

The lyrics aren’t as crazy as they might sound. It’s a girl desperate to flirt with Andy, who is ignoring her. Catherine alternates between lines as the girl « Oh,, Andy, please say yes » and verses as narrator describing what’s going on « The weather’s getting worse and Andy worries. He brings out his umbrella. He touches the corner of his eyebrows. He’s Andy Capp. That’s right, it’s him. ». Etc.

He’s a comic strip character with no sex appeal, which makes the song quite absurd.i.pinimg.com/236x/a3/55/f4/a355f4cdc3bdf5e56fc567dae8d121af--andy-capp-cartoon-art.jpg

Most important thing : a good catchy melodic line. So you can have this kind of reaction with the singer Philippe Katherine. When you build around a good melody, good things follow... And about the lyrics, in the 1980 in France, I don't know how and the reason for, but many popular artists started to write kind of «meaningless on porpose » surrealistic texts. And Phlippe K brough it back nowadays. kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4bZfGh3iJ2Ko9E
