The raspy voice was because this was her final show and he voice really took a lot of strain. It was one of the highlights in her Truth or Dare documentary where it showed she had to cancel shows at one point in the tour and not talk at all.

I had the pleasure of seeing this concert at The Palace of Auburn Hills back in 1990! It was actually my first time on a plane and it changed my life! I was 18 at the time and I was so happy to see her in concert!

I was at that same concert. Imo, it was the best show. She was on fire 🔥.

So glad you enjoyed it! It's her third concert and a landmark at that because of the theatrical staging, non-stop dancing, and controversial Like a Virgin number! This is the concert where Madonna became fully MADONNA, imv, the stage goddess of song and dance. She set the standard for other concert performers, especially female performers. Wish I had seen it live. Thank you, Dereck for a great reaction!

I could watch that final 'Keep it Together' routine over and over again (as I already have) and still be mesmerised by it. It's so well put together and I think shows the human side of Madonna. She's really got it here. Feels like she's at the top of her game at this point.
@bbinitials81943 жыл бұрын
One of her best tour ever. At the time, it was insane, none other female singer dared such a tour with background changing... And changes of clothes (apart Mylène)... Not even Kylie Minogue who copies her that same year. I remember being sat beside the stage, on the left and I could see the columns raised UP while she was singing "like a Virgin"! Impressive
@joelscottarnold32623 жыл бұрын
I absolutely adore the final number. The costumes and choreography along with the British accents are all a take on “A Clockwork Orange”- an extremely controversial Kubrick masterpiece. She even references the “old in out, in out” taken directly from the film. Only Madonna. Brilliant.

@todddepue6813 жыл бұрын
She really didn't like performing Material Girl at this point. And was certainly tired of everyone still calling her that. The corny accent was, imo, just kind of her way of giving this song The Finger. Many people overlooked the ironic intent of the original song and here she's saying "I don't take it seriously, why should you?" She took a similar approach in the Who's That Girl tour couple years before this.

Her voice here was very different as this was already the last tour performance (so this is Madonna voice 3 months later after 50 shows). Her New Jersey was much early on the tour. She probably put an extra effort in Nice as it was being filmed for a commercial Laserdisc (this concert shoot won a Grammy for best longform music video in 1992 - It was Madonna first grammy winning ever). "Hanky Pankky" was the single released after "Vogue" and peaked #02 in UK and #10 in US. Concerning Madonna and MJ tours - he was touring a lot more time doing 123 concerts with his '87/'88 tour while Madonna did only 57 shows with this tour (she gets tired from repeating the songs and dance routines). Both concert tours had similar individual grossing (in 2020 money $2.3 million for each MJ show and $2.2 million for each Madonna show).

At the moment (1990) Madonna was using her "Jersey Accent" you coud see that all trough Truth or Dare Documentary as well and this Material Girl performance at the blond Ambition Tour ..it's like her "Fukc u" atttiude or her "shield" to be perceived as tough.

This is from the end of the tour vs the part one you reacted to, which was from the us leg which was the start of the tour. That’s why her voice is so raspy
@dalee723 жыл бұрын
I'm a big Madonna fan but the reason why there's so much rasp in her voice is because she sings from her throat and she hasn't been trained to sing from her diaphragm until she recorded the Evita when she got vocal training/coaching.

Madonna almost damaged her vocal cords/voice on this tour from the back-to-back shows. She had to stop the tour and stay sequestered in her NYC apt without speaking for a month. You should watch the documentary of this tour Truth or Dare. I like it better than just concert and I'm nitpicking but I feel like it elevates the tour if that is possible. Material Girl I believe she purposely dummied it down to its obvious intent since most people missed the ironic tongue and cheek intention of the video and took it seriously labeled her "The Material Girl" forever. The guy you liked the one that danced with her "In Get into Groove", Gabriel Trupin, killed himself. He, Slam & Carlton where HIV+ but no one knew nor did each of them know the status of the other. In the documentary they play the game Truth or Dare where one of them dares Slam to French kiss Gabriel and at the time of filming none of the off-stage footage was going to be used but once the director saw the dailies, he asked Madonna to include it while still on tour but she didn't agree until after the tour when they were editing it. When the documentary changed its scope Gabreil asked her to remove the kiss but she did include it which includes everything including footage, she didn't want to use of herself. Gabriel had a hard time with his diagnosis plus that was the first time ever that 2 men kissed in mainstream media. In effect she kind of outed him and that also took an emotional toll on him not to mention the lawsuit against her so eventually he took his life. Sorry to have to tell you. There is documentary with just the guys called "Strike A Pose" 25 years after the tour/documentary premiered. It is really good too. clubmadonnaphilippines.wordpress.com/2015/04/14/25-reasons-madonnas-blond-ambition-tour-still-rules-25-years-later/

the first part you watched was from the beginning of the tour with the ponytail, this here with the short curly hair was the end of the tour, this part was actually the very last show...this aired on HBO August 5, 1990..she had done over 50 shows.. that was why her voice was hoarse
