What's more funny for me on these, is that you know that Peter was pissed most of the time when they did the Derek & Clives records. That edginess and unpredictability make them even more funny. Cook didn't just push the envelope in this he threw it through the window with a brick in it.

I first heard D & C approximately 43 years ago…and was initially shocked, flabbergasted and totally amazed that there could be such irreverent humour on an LP record! I’ve never forgotten the basic scripts to this day…although the specific wording might be a little vague! In fact, I saw my mate Frank, who first introduced me to Derek and Clive (and I nearly pissed myself laughing!) all those years ago, earlier tonight and mentioned that I was watching D & C on KZbin. Almost immediately, Frank said ‘I’m Alfie Noakes’….to which I replied ‘I’m Alfie Noakes’…which is a long standing ‘conversation’ between us! To all the D & C fans out there, you’ll understand what I mean! Its almost like a CULT….although Peter Cook would surely twist and manipulate the words, as he frequently did,to create something ‘Memorable’! On a final note…isn’t it strange that we can’t remember what we did last week…but we can remember (and still love) what we heard (from Pete and Dud!) over forty years ago!

Darkest comedy sketch ever, but you know it's not far off from the absurdity of truth. I remember reading an article in the paper once about a man who beat his wife to near death because she bought home the 'wrong' brand of baked beans.

You can sub off that part of it for self service if you like, but this is a social commentary on an actual abuse case, as was their sketch Sir. Before you get too high and mighty, I thought I might point out the context - however I imagine it would be lost on you.
