@@lonewolf1053 I saw the band at a Blues Festival circa 1997 1998 maybe Sarasota Florida. I remember thinking what a dynasty. So cool 😎to remember history while you still have a mind. But I am thinking. Ya'll are funnier than me but can you play harmonicas? I usually have one in my 👄 back pocket and almost always a weiner on my lap! Literally. Love the evolution of the Tedeschi-Trucks Band. They are in my opinion the epitome of the Southern Class of house of blues! Oh I think mom was in the house making or ordering cheese cake! It wasn't Peach Cobbler at all. FRIED CHICKEN 🍗🐔NAW... RIBEYES ON THE GRILL FOR SURE!

...and his father, Butch Trucks was one of the founding members of The Allman Brothers Band. ... and this ALSO explains where the Tedeschi Trucks Band came up with the idea that wo drummers would be worthwhile. ~~~ from WIKIPEDIA on "Butch Trucks"... "Trucks then helped form The Allman Brothers Band in 1969, along with Duane Allman (guitar), Gregg Allman (vocals and organ), Dickey Betts (guitar), Berry Oakley (bass), and fellow drummer Jai Johanny Johanson. Together, the two drummers developed a rhythmic drive that would prove crucial to the band. Trucks laid down a powerful conventional beat while the jazz-influenced Johanson added a second laminate of percussion and ad libitum cymbal flourishes, seamlessly melded into one syncopated sound. Said founding member and co-lead guitarist Dickey Betts of Trucks' addition to the original band lineup, "...When Butch came along, he had that freight train, meat-and-potatoes kind of thing that set Jaimoe up perfectly. He had the power thing we needed."[1] "

@joeguitargod
@joeguitargod 9 жыл бұрын
Devi Drogt Practice is obviously a very important and vital component to becoming a great guitarist or musician. But there are those who are born with that little extra something that comes from within and can't be taught to someone, no matter how much they practice. Derek Trucks is one of those individuals. Like smoothz01 said, he plays better than some who are 3-4 times his age. Logic suggests that that shouldn't happen. Yet, there it is. When I see youngsters who are incredible at what they do at such a young age, I sincerely think they are an old soul. I mean, what else can explain having such seasoned ability at such a young age? The environment you grew up in and the people you were exposed to can only account for so much.

I've read the comments and it's not about who's the king of slide. It's about legacy, and understanding your instrument and hands down, any true player still in the scene will answer the question pretty much the same. Derek Trucks has taken slide guitar to a whole different level. Of course Duane and Dickey set the bar high, but today in 2017, if you are a true player, Derek just took things to a new level. And well it should be. Cheers to him. He pisses me off and that's a good thing. I'm just like, Damn.....are you friggin kidding me? And from what I've seen Derek is a truly good guy. I know this much, if it were not for Derek and Warren and a few others, I might have lost faith in true rock n roll. Derek Trucks is making his own history and doing a damn good job of it. PEACE.

Interesting thought. You might find it surprising that my long time partner, who is also from Georgia and has been playing electric and acoustic guitar since he was a kid, is now 28 and heavily influenced by the greats: Duane and Derek as well as the TRUE grandfather of slide guitar, Elmore James. He continues to grow as a slide guitarist inspired by artists like these as well as great poets with true words like Tupac. Tupac evolved out of a violent life of crime and self-destruction to share words of forgiveness and peace through his music only to be brutally murdered. But he was a rapper, too. To each their own. Just some food for thought. :)

In the teachers lounge, another teacher was laughing about she had a note from Mrs. Trucks to please excuse her children for they were flying up to NYC to be on the Jay Leno show... She couldnt stop laughing... can you believe this crap...My daughter said to her...you don't know who you are talking about they are famous people. True story

I saw Derek play with Gregg Allman in 93 or 94 with The Outlaws opening for Greg at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds in Chico, CA. I was 17-18 yo and almost got in a fight with a couple guys heckling because Derek was so young and unheard of. I recognized the Trucks name (I'm sure Gregg said it was Butch Trucks son) but my girlfriend held me back and calmed things down. Same Braves hat and SG I'm 100% sure. He's brought slide guitar to another level in years since, and I truly can't think of a better person to have carried Duane's torch.

to me, the most remarkable story from Gregg Allman's memoir was the story of when Butch took Gregg and a couple other guys from the band to see Derek play when he was 9. The skills are there even at this young age. His skills have gotten better. But here's one thing you can't teach.The soul of his playing is there in spades. What a special talent.
