This guy is sooo cool! Id love to hang with him for a day and pick his brain! I would learn so much. I'm a sider/carpenter but kinda have a dream of retiring to building speakers as I get older!

I liked the whole explanation about the physics of the speaker that is built from a piece of board 😂 I don't know how it will sound, but at most it will be used as a hat rack 🤩

Paul Voight pretty much the first and foremost of speaker designers, his corner horn design is still being built (not too fond of Lowthers though, Jimi Hendrix famously overdrove some, and blew them up!) Kudos to Derek!

people always overlook the width where it remains the same for the entire length. That distance will resonate at a specific frequency but nobody can explain how it affects the sound of these.

There are people who have made extremely musical Voigt pipes and other models using knowledge and experience from musical instrument making (Ocelia from France is a former Lute and guitar manufacturer that turned into a loudspeaker builder). The result may be stunning for single or a small number of (acoustic) instrument reproduction, but, as the musical programm becomes more demanding, the presentation usually falls apart. I don't think I know a musical instrument maker that has managed to make two identically sounding violins or cellos or anything. And we need two loudspeakers for our stereo. That said, some of the best representatives of this hi-fi school, may produce an extremely musical and addictive form of imposed stero illusion. They manage to augment musical traits that evade the recording or are being mistreated by the recording process. The problem is that this is a form of distortion (even a craved one) and an audiophile law says, you can get away with it and have it your way with some or even many recordings, but you'll mess-up some others in the end. Having struggled for many years trying to find the "golden section" between color and no color at all, from a loudspeaker, and although the latter is almost impossible, I have now the conviction that this is the way to go, in louspeaker building. Colored loudspeakers, even musical ones, are a double-edged sword.

have you tried studying the mathematical science of sound, and applying cold math functions to your build? I had the same concerns as you from 1976 when I started, a child amateur until 1990 when I became a professional. and now for me the speaker was mathematical functions. from then until now a lot of water has flown down the drain...computer programs digital field measurements, abundant conveniences and more than 670 designs of each type...my speakers differ only in the capabilities of the loudspeakers I have to work with and the only thing that can color their sound, is the listening room, and bad recordings... but I'm not going to tolerate carpenters pretending to be scientists to spoil my science

@@Armonia2810 So, do you make the perfect loudspeakers or not?
@Armonia28104 ай бұрын
@@fullranger3435 I wrote in detail I think... to ignore my text and try to be ironic does not honor your intelligence. each loudspeaker has its own price, its own value and its own ability. I'm not an amateur. that means I don't design 5-10 pairs of speakers in my lifetime, but over 600. nor do I choose the loudspeakers I design for. I design them based on the needs, requirements and financial possibilities of my client. however for the speakers I get my hands on, yes I deliver the perfect speaker... now as for the absolute perfect speaker, yes I have designed and built it. is a dipole speaker, with an array of 65 dipole ribbon elements designed and patented by me, a 1000 square centimeter planar dipole diaphragm, also personally designed, and a built-in 12" isobaric bass reflex short-throw subwoofer at its base... its response to distances of 1.2 meters from the side walls and 1.5 meters from the back in a 5x3.1x8m room it is absolutely flat from 24hz to 27khz
