An easy DIY job, lifting and moving them is the hard part. Al shows the full job.
If you need washing machine valves, here is the Amazon link. amzn.to/2TlluZy
Saved money on plumbers ? Donate here, using Al`s site link. www.dereton33.com/page118.html Thank you.
I also now have an Amazon storefront for all plumbing parts. It is www.amazon.co.uk/shop/dereton33

Capping off the now unused hot pipe , as you suggest......If you do not have a proper blanking fitting)...I used the nut off the end of the old hot washing machine pipe (hacksawn off the old hot washing machine pipe)....Remove the rubber washer insert a 10 pence piece...reinsert rubber washer and screw on the now redundant hot feed valve...just in-case it gets knocked open. Mine has been fine for ages...you can open the valve with no issues... Nice video AL....

Thank you so much for your tips. I managed to get my old machine out from under the worktop on some cardboard, unplumbed it successfully too, but as I'm only a 4 foot 10 inch, 68 year old female pensioner I was unable to move it into my back garden. Boy was it heavy! Fortunately, my two lovely neighbours did that last bit for me! I was so pleased to be able to have done half the job alone myself though so thanks to you and your excellent video!

Yes I always put a towel under the pipes. The cold pressure can be phenomenal. Also the cupboard is usually FULL of stuff. OLD machines always hold water even after months of storage. Thank you Sir this was extremely informative. We've just done a trial run to make sure we know what to do when we move in a few weeks and get it cleaned up. Wouldn't have had a clue without this video and using string and cardboard makes so much sense! The cold tap at the sink has been a bit sputtery since reconnecting everything do you know what could be the cause? Also is it necessary to cap off the waste pipe while it's not in use?

Great advice and useful tips. Needed this as I'm about to order a new washer and was 50% sure I could install it myself. I'm now 99% sure but I have a question: My old washer waste pipe was attached to the sink trap, I think that this caused air to come up my sink (right pain when doing dishes, lets the water out), is there anything I can get to prevent this other than a separate waste pipe?

I think the tip about putting a blank cap on the end of the unused hot valve is definitely the right thing to do. I did an identical job the other day, I'm just a DIY man, for a friend. And the 3/4" blank nut and a roll of PTFE tape cost just £2 from Plumbase, well worth it for peace of mind.

Two "MagiGLIDE" which are small Teflon coated disks under each front feet , hand inside of the drum and tilt forward slightly and pull straight out. They will save your back and a load of time in the process. They are about a tenner from Amazon and it is what the pro's use to remove appliances in tight spots. They slide easily over any surface and you can reuse than time and time again and on other appliances. I have tried the way you have demonstrated above and one you have to be He-man to pull out a large washer like that and two the chances of your damaging your flooring in some way is highly likely. For the sake of £10 I will stick with the MagiGLIDE disc. To be honest I thought when I saw the title I thought you were going to demo something like these discs as you usually show some kind of innovative way of completing a DIY task that will save, time, money and effort....for me not a patch on some of your other videos.

If you turn the valve up but it still sprays water when undoing it, what’s the best thing to do? Does it stop eventually?

I’m getting a new machine delivered in a few days and they are going to get the old one in return. The switch for cutting the water supply is in the basement, and cuts the supply for three additional apartments. So I have to be swift and maybe do it in two parts. My question is; can I disconnect the old one the day before and have nothing connected to the pipes until the new one is ready to be installed with the water going as normal? Since the machine is located in the kitchen it is the equivalent of 240 pounds to get it installed by the company.

Why don't you disconnrct and fit a washing machine tap that can be left in the off position.
