I think hearing that he was a student of Brian Eno and has a relationship with him also informed me that his music comes from a wealth of depth, knowledge and talent.

Actual life 3 showed up on my page a couple months ago and I became an immediate fan of Fred again. There may be a recipe to his presence, at the same time, there is an authenticity and originality in his sound. I never "overthink" music, but I am compelled to dig deep. To keep it simple, if I feel it, it goes in my pocket. Thank you, as always Derrick, for the deep introduction

if you're a fan, you're a fan! there's a lot of noise out there, but ultimately - it's just music!

And then came tiny desk and we got fred-the empath - he's touching deep places and has gone through some things - he's vulnerable and that's key.

I discover him from triangle of sadness. That end scene with the main character running in the jungle, then later find out he just started pushing out music during the pandemic…. makes him super interesting

Thank you for taking us down the rabbit hole on Fred Again! Haven’t seen much of him yet (I must be on the wrong side of TikTok haha). It was nice seeing how you learned about this artist and how your opinion and doubts of how “natural” or groomed his meteoric rise to fame was. That threshold of being in the background of the industry to being personally famous himself is an interesting study in work, timing and luck. Appreciate your evolution in this weekly podcast as well 🫡🫡🫡

Fred, Skrillex and Fourtet just played a pop-up show at MSG that sold out in seconds and a preshow in Time square. it was definitely a wait...wtf...how? moment.

This is the explainer I've needed lol, I had a similar discovery process (also mistaken for fredwave), but have not really followed the process of the boiler room growth beyond watching the boiler room and seeing some hate memes.

❤ ultimately it was seeing him live where it all kinda connected. And HA I really thought it was Fredwave early on.

This is a very similar story to another Boiler Room set featuring Gessaffelstein. He had a very big rise after doing (illicit substances) under the booth doing the set. It went viral and was shared everywhere. Eventually he ended up collaborating with Pharrell, Daft Punk, The Weeknd, and HAIM. Then for some reason, he fell into obscurity and haven’t really heard more after his Coachella set. I would expect the same from Fred in a few years.

I see a lot of musical similarities with Jamie xx, who of course is huge in his own right, but I don't remember this level of fan hysteria when In Colour dropped.

the "i'm just a guy" presentation of fred again is very interesting considering that there are murmurs of him being descended of UK aristocracy... 👀 he needs to present himself as authentic and self-made, otherwise they know they'll be grouped into the "rich" of "eat the rich" 👀👀👀

I heard he was being a bit weird in some Sydney strip clubs. No hate to people who hit up those venues but there is a right way to treat the staff.
