Derwin has some of the most brutal tackles I've seen this season, first lifting up Kelce in the KC game and now this. I think he had bad intentions p, because couple plays before this one he seems to intentionally rip off Michael Pittman’s helmet mid tackle…. Because while I was watching it live and saw his helmet suddenly go flying off, I was confused by how exactly that’s happened. So I replayed the play a few times in slow motion and it looks like Derwin intentionally just rips it right off mid tackle… which made me think to myself “Damn, seems like he’s playing pretty dirty and with some bad intentions.” Then just minutes later he made this hit right here on Ashton Dulin. Which pretty much strengthen that thought for me

@@Austin.Kilgore he’s been really effective in forcing fumbles this season by yanking the ball out by getting his hands underneath it and also by hitting the ball with his shoulder pad/helmet. I think that’s what you saw in both of those plays. He was trying to put his helmet on the ball but I think he expected the WR to turn up the field earlier, and then for the face mask, I think he thought he had his hand on the ball. He really is probably the nicest guy on our defense and rarely ever gets these. I’m not excusing his play, he could’ve seriously injured someone here, but I personally can’t imagine him playing with those intentions.

CTE doesn’t directly kill people like a heart attack would. It’s a neurodegenerative condition that degrades the cognitive abilities of those who have it. Some may find it hard to live with and take their own life or live recklessly, due to a newfound lack of impulse control, in a way that would lead to an indirect loss of life.

CTE is not caused by big hits like this nearly as much as its caused by the thousands of small hits they take all the time. These hits cause in the moment concussions, but not really CTE in the way that an accumulation of many smaller hits over years does. I actually think the hitting restrictions were made just to look less violent. It doesn't matter what the hit actually does if the nfl thinks it looks bad and might one day lose ratings. But football is a violent sport, it's what we want from it.

The thing I hate is people get all upset about these big hits. First off the defenders jobs is to either make the hit or play the ball or dislodge the ball all in a fraction of a second which is difficult to do. Secondly, making a perfect form tackle on a moving target that is bending and moving unpredictably at full speed is like hunting a deer running full speed and expecting a perfect shot in the heart everytime. These defenders can't be expected to make perfect hits every time especially since they don't do tackling drills in practice anymore. And obviously hitting a wr at full speed is something they never practice nor can you so to get upset at these guys for making a hit like this is ridiculous. Being a defender nowadays is extremely difficult.
