Hello Sandra, Greetings again from Australia. I turn 70 next month and have been a blues based rocker since I was 13 and teaching since 1994. I always wanted to learn Jazz Chord Melody but didn't know where to start until I found you. So in January I made a pledge to learn one song a month. January - MISTY, February - SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW, March - SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME, April - AIN'T MISBEHAVIN',May - BLACK ORPHEUS, June - AUTUMN LEAVES, July - ALL THE THINGS YOU ARE, August - CORCOVADO, next month DESAFINADO. Thank you for the great lessons, tabs and GP files, could not have done this without GREAT TEACHER, your lessons are awesome !!!

Hi Ken, so glad to make you happy and enjoy the jazz ride. Give yourself some time on Desafinado. That's quite a long and tricky songform to memorize.
@infinite-guitar Жыл бұрын
Hi Sandra. Thanks for the advice. I put this on hold until I got better at jazz theory and it was worth the wait. I memorised it this week. Thank you for being such a great teacher and for rekindling the love of the bossa nova I developed when I was a teenager in the early 60s 😊

I don't know how to thank you. it feels like I got an early Christmas present. Some songs are so good that I just listen, and I hesitate to play with my clumsy hands. Desafinado was one of the songs. So about two months ago I asked for this song on your channel. Now you broke my hesitation. Thank you for a wonderful lesson!
@GuitarversumSandraSherman3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind words, Chan! They're very much appreciated and keep me motivated 😊❤️. Don't worry about your "clumsy" hands. My nick name is clumsy smurf for a reason and even I managed to play jazz 😊. Just a little bit a day will get you there. And make sure to check out the basics, like chords! Chords melody is the kings discipline and needs some existing knowledge.

A great way of learning standards for a guitar player. Thank you! -- A wish: Just Friends.

@GuitarversumSandraSherman25 күн бұрын
I don't know the video by heart anymore. It's always good to put a time stamp on the comment (which will place an autonatic link I can click), so I know what you're referring to. Fmaj7#11#5 is a lydian #5 chord. It's the 3rd degree of the D melodic minor scale. It's just a hipper version of a major chord, so don't overthink it 😊

Its 68 chords? I haven't counted them, but I doubt it. It's probably just variations of basic jazz chords, that you should know before attempting chord melody. I have a playlist named Chords and Comping. Once you know the basics Chord Melody isnt6such a mystery anymore and you memorize the arrangements a lot better (or even make your own ones).

She is sincere, but she puts too much detail, more like she is teaching someone who has never picked up a guitar before. What she really needs to do is to get someone "playing the chord and melody, without all the rudiments. Perfection will not be reached on the first try. Remember it's a video, one can always replay the video to straighten out ones problems with the tune. But she definitely takes too much time with explanations. She has good intentions, though.
@GuitarversumSandraSherman3 жыл бұрын
She thanks you and will take it into consideration 😊. She thinks of these tutorials more like lessons, though. And she doubts, that an absolute beginner could play this. Keep swinging, Jeffrey! I'll try to be a little less chatty, but the concept will remain. There are others, who already do what you asked for.
