I have been working weeks and months on loud, fast tempo, driving rhythms, etc. (newly written songs/arrangements) and I'm in a slow tempo, gently melodic mood....and this video was PERFECT for my ringing eardrums. I'm so thankful for this timely video, by a pro !!! Nice. Thank you for your comment, as well. ... Crossbow (USA)

Glad you dig it, Victor. Tge original song has an F note instead of the Gb in the beginning. I wanted to make it easier, but it's really not a lot harder to play tvat f on the 6th fret b-string. Just lift your middle finger and you'll have the f on the already barred index.

I changed that from a bad habit as a student. I watched myself in the mirror then (no phones with selfie cams back then, lol) and saw that it looked ugly and much different from pro guitsrists. So I just copued the looks. As for soloing, everything changed when a substitute teacher corrected my random plucking direction playing to a strict alternate pucking. That one lesson he gave me while my professor was on tour, was for sure the most important guitar lesson of my life. It changed my phrasing to a correct and great one. I have a lesson on jazz phrasing on YT, where I explain this in detail. Check it out!

Great arrrangement, and you play it beautifully! The way you play it, it has more of a "midnight" feel to me, and is more haunting. Honestly, I listened to Monk's version after this, and Jim Hall's, and yours is preferred, because it floats more, imparts some of that feeling of loneliness and introspection that Monk knew often happens "'Round Midnight." Great job!

@GuitarversumSandraSherman
@GuitarversumSandraSherman 3 жыл бұрын
You don't need long nails. I kinda get stuck between strings with longer nails. You have to pluck the string that had the melody a little harder. That's usually the pinky doing that. It takes some practice to get a leveled sound.

This is a great and well set out lesson. But there is one note that bothers me each time I hear it. Surely the third note in the melody is an F and not an F#?
@GuitarversumSandraSherman
@GuitarversumSandraSherman 11 ай бұрын
Yes, it's the 9th of the chord and I should've done it that way. Back then I thought it's easier for beginners. But I honestly regret having changed the melody there. But you just need to lift your middle fingee in order to get the F note.

Nice arrangement. On bar 1 , beat 2, 3rd 16th, the melody note is F natural, not Gb. The F natural sets up beautifully the Ebm chord.

I know, but Gb is easier to play, bc it's in the chord already 😊

Yep, in a flat key the name it Cb, because in a flat key there is a Bb and your can't have a Bb and a B in the same scale.

I know. I wanted to make it easier. Was not a good idea. But you can easily change it by playing the 6th fret instead of the 7th.

The opening phrase is played terribly wrong. Sorry, but the F should clearly be there, you changed the whole meaning with that Gb...

I wanted to make it easier for beginners. But you really just need to lift your middle finger to get the f there. While I agree it was not a good decision, I would disagree on that it changes the meaning of the song. Singers change notes and timing all the time. The 9th is great, but the 3rd in the melody doesn't change the whole meaning of the song 🙃.
