The fact that the foot soldiers each had specific and identifiable weapons (riflemen, machine gunners, and even the rocket launchers). If you look closely too the little firing animations relate directly if the soldier is a machine gunner or a rifleman and the frequency/volume of their fire. Absolutely top notch! superiority is why, and not just any one type of superiority, technological superiority, air superiority, intelligence superiority, training/experience superiority, superiority of equipment, everything. Iraq is prepared for cold war era style war but don't have advantages like jungles that the north Vietnamese had, and the enemy has modern weapons with modern technologies like sensors, gps, weapons that lock on and are designed to kill exactly the vehicles they are driving, and many more, with a command structure that keeps everything working together smoothly. The Iraqi army is also a lot of conscripts whereas the americans and other international armies are trained soldiers, the republican guard and other veteran units of the Iraqi army are different though as they likely have more experience then much of the allied coalition, they are the most well armed and full of the most experienced soldiers from the Iraq-Iran war

AT 9 minutes it is not Steven Ray... but his name was Eddie Ray. He was my Battalion Commander of 2nd Light Armored Recon Bn. 99-03 at Lejeune. But there's more to the story . He was actually "ordered" to retreat... he didn't. When he pressed on and won the battle destroying several tanks, they were going to court martial him for disobeying a direct order. But because he was a black man and actually won the battle command was afraid there'd be too much blow-back... The leadership wanted to smoke him. He was a Captain back then.. Leadership made the decision award him the Navy Cross and give him a promotion. It was well deserved. In 2003 when we went to Iraq and fought again, Lt. Col Eddie Ray was the first one charging into battle. He was a great inspiration to myself and others in his battalion. He was later promoted to full bird and retired. I learned about the whole story and what went on behind the scenes from a friend of mine who was his superior back in the rear in 2014. Crazy... small world.

Great job again, amazing quality and production quality! I have one suggestion, same as last video, some sort of scale would be really helpful, since the map is frequently and swiftly zooming in and out, it becomes quite easy to lose track of what exactly you're looking at, a scale would help to keep track of what sort of area is being dealt with and to make differentiation easier, especially since much of the background consists of rather uniform desert.

Those soldiers weren't in the army because they liked it, most of them are little kids who failed school and drafted by force. Also, they had almost zero training, and no logistics whatsoever. The army was just bunch of civilians given rusty Ak-47s(except for the Republican guards) and told to fight or else their families pay for their execution. If i was in the same situation, I'd try my best not to pose as a threat to the more superior coalition forces.
@tedferkin4 жыл бұрын
The only real professional army Iraq had was the Republican Guards. The rest, as pointed out elsewhere, were literally nothing more than raw recruits with AK47s. As conscripts they were taking over from an exhausted army fresh out of the Iran/Iraq war. If I remember the history, Saddam was almost allied with the west due to the fact we disliked the Iranians more. He believed he could take Kuwait and noone would really care. This would give Iraq a huge boost in oil revenues. However, due to Britain's close links with Kuwait and the fear that Saddam might take lack of action as a green light to also go after the other gulf states. The other nations had even less army than Iraq, so NATO stepped in to secure it's own access to oil.
@wolfrainexxx4 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure the boots in Vietnam had this exact same problem with new recruits that were pushed through training too quickly.
