Maybe with the Mega Drive Mini 2 having Desert Strike on it people will come flocking to my videos and I'll become an ultra-millionaire and oh crap did I just reveal the entire reason I've been doing this for half a decade

Urban Strike was my big nostalgic Strike game so while this was an interesting look at a past I didn't really have, what did catch my eye was that EA Replay compilation. I did not know it existed until now, but I dearly want it now that I do.

Whats with all the British spelling of "Armour" in the games? Was it actual localization, or just that a lot of the ports were developed in the UK and no one noticed? Tiertex did do a really good port of Paperboy on the Master System, even if they did confuse the iconic theme with the one from Moon Patrol :D
@Yesterzine2 жыл бұрын
I need to do a video but Tiertex were uncommonly good on sms. Gauntlet is theirs too.
@Larry2 жыл бұрын
@@Yesterzine I think they did Impossible: Mission too. Which was also good. They also did some ports for Sega like with MERCS and Strider, but those were a bit shit.

Yeah, the Amiga version really shows what a proper port can be like. Had lots of fun with it.

It was nice to get a good port from the consoles for a change, all too often the Amiga port was poorly done.

I can't remember if I bought the full game, but I definitely enjoyed the magazine coverdisk demo for the Amiga. Desert Strike on PC probably didn't make big waves for three reasons - firstly it was no longer the hot new game that it was in 1992/93, secondly the PC market had bigger, more spectacular games that commanded the attention of the public (Doom, TFX, Syndicate, Theme Park), and thirdly - a closely related reason - it wasn't the type of game that typically suited PCs - not only wasn't it what PC owners typically got excited about, most PC owners probably didn't have a good controller to play it with. Whereas the consoles had good joypads and the Amiga had a lot of decent arcade-style joysticks, on PC the most common control scheme available to play an action game like Desert Strike would be the keyboard, which surely isn't as intuitive or fun to use as a joystick/pad. A typical PC gamer had mouse & keyboard - and this would serve as the control scheme for the vast majority of games. Quite a few would have an analogue joystick of variable quality depending on how serious they were about flight sims and the like, but for the most part mouse & keyboard was the default control scheme, and whereas that provided great versatility and perfect control for many games, it wasn't an ideal fit for action games.

You can trust Yesterzine to pimp the marster sarster! I wonder if the unreleased Mega CD compilation version is any different from the Megadrive one... Also kudos for the supergun joke !

I agree with more Amiga videos! Desert Strike on the Amiga had a great soundtrack.

I'm pretty sure GBA port is based on SNES version. SNES version has a weapon shooting quirk. On Mega Drive you can shoot every weapon simultaneously, while in SNES version for example if you holding hydra button, you can't use gun or hellfire missles. Same quirk can be found in GBA version. Actually I've yet to play through it, so maybe my first impression was wrong. Overall Desert Strike is just a great game no matter where you play it. Personally I can't decide between Mega Drive, SNES, MS-DOS and Amiga, as each has their pros and cons. But if I had to answer which version I would prefer, I'd say despite growing up with Mega Drive version, SNES version would be my go to version for simply having a little bit of everything. You can't really go wrong with any version of Desert Strike.

Love port comparison videos. I remember there being a Strike inspired mech on Java J2ME phones , with similar enviro destruction and combat. It was on certain Nokia phones. I can't recall it's name.

Well if you want to talk about more Strike games, there is the Mechwarrior game from back then. Basically the precursor to Future Cop.

Doesnt look like the PC port is running at 60fps. Would be very interested to try it but choppy framerates always kill older games for me. (And yes I know as kids we didn't give a shit lol)

My complaints about desert strike: 1. Too short 2. Too easy (I can’t lose a life the whole game, even if I played like shit) 3. The sequels are abominations
