Deshaun Watson will reportedly undergo season-ending shoulder surgery on his throwing arm. The Cleveland Browns QB suffered a broken bone on his throwing shoulder during the team's comeback win over the Baltimore Ravens. Colin Cowherd reacts to the news. Meanwhile, ESPN reported that Bill Belichick's next landing spot is 'already determined' and will leave the New England Patriots after this season concludes. One team brought up? The Washington Commanders. Colin explains why this would not be a good move by the Commanders.

100% CORRECT -- especially true of perennial losing teams (historically speaking overall) who have NEVER YET won a SB (alphabetically, think: Atlanta, Arizona, Buffalo, Carolina, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Detroit, Houston, Jacksonville, LA/SD Chargers, Minnesota, and Tennessee -- although several of those teams are NO LONGER "as desperate" because they NOW HAVE their "franchise QB" and are gradually building around him and no longer feel a need to "selling the farm" for 1 shot at a SB followed by nearly a decade of bad years). Plus there are a few more places whose fan bases are especially demanding and HAVE won a SB, but not recently (alphabetically think, especially: Dallas, NY Jets).

Ozzie Newsome has said that mortgaging the future for any roster now is a mistake he would never make.... again. He did that after the 2000 Super Bowl and the team wasn't great again for several years. No sentimentality, and draft picks were worth more than gold. Teams that draft well have sustained success. They aren't making that deal. Offer the money, sure, not guaranteed. Some might offer a pick in the next draft, and another a year later. Watson deal was a mistake the day the ink dried. There's a lot of fans that are happy that every game is meaningful and competitive. Hoping to get to the show. After the season, there isn't one successful team and 31 failures. The league would die out if that were true.

I like Colin, but this is one of those times when he's forcing a terrible take. Manning, Brady and Stafford yielded a combined 4 Super Bowl appearances and 3 World Championships with their new teams. Brett Favre and Joe Montana got the Vikings and Chiefs to their respective Conference Championship games and Drew Brees was only 1 year younger than Deshaun is now when the Saints signed him. Even if those teams had to pay premiums that took a toll in the long run, I don't think any of them regret it.
@piyushdeshpande5475
@piyushdeshpande5475 7 ай бұрын
But that’s exactly the thing, it only worked in the short term. It’s not that Brady, Manning, and Stafford were failures, but that the teams awfully regressed after year 2. The Browns haven’t gotten anything in the first two years of Deshaun and they’re handicapped with what they can do so things will only get worse with the team. So, I think the argument is that you have to win the SB quickly with these splash trades or it will become disastrous quickly.

Peyton won an MVP his 2nd year in Denver. Yes, the defense carried him the last year, but 2SB appearances, with a win and an MVP. I think that went perfect for Denver. Brady and Stafford won their first year on a new team. That is as perfect as it gets. This is dumb take by Colin. Trading all those picks is teams rolling the dice that they get HOF QB play for multiple years and a chance to win. You don't always win when you gamble.

The Watson deal will go down as one of the worst in the history of sports, but the take at the beginning is just bizarre. Three outta the five examples he gave are counter arguments to the idea that you shouldn’t acquire aging QBs. Manning, Brady, and Stafford all won super bowls, so what if they all sucked for a few years after? Outside of the chiefs, I don’t know any fanbases that wouldn’t immediately sign up for that deal. Second of all, Watson wasn’t even an aging QB in the first place. Those guys he all listed were either exiting or already had exited their primes. Watson is still in his 20’s. The real mistake was giving the largest contract ever to a guy who hadn’t played in over a year due to massive off the field issues. Had nothing to do with his age and everything to do with his character.

I'd counter that almost every elite QB historically leaves a mess when they are finished. In my life there's only a few counter examples: Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay, Steve Young in San Fran, and maybe Andrew Luck with the Colts (didn't win a SB though). Most likely you'll be searching for a long time to fill the shoes of an elite signal caller, and it's hard to see LA or Tampa Bay regret their championships despite hard times now.

I disagree that these deals are zero for six. All of these teams (except the Browns) knew going in that these old quarterback deals were for the short term and that the injury risk was higher. Brady, Manning, and Stafford all got the team a Super Bowl win. That's .500 with a championship. That's a massive win in my book.

Saying payton didnt work is dumb, by that logic the only qbs to ever truly work were farve and montana since they had hall of famers waiting behind them. Signing manning in free agency didnt set the franchise back, their inability to scout qbs after did.

Colin smiled when he found out that watson was out for the season. And he pretending that Watson is 38 and not 28. Cleveland could win 3 superbowls and colin would say but the great franchises have at least 5.

Deshaun Watson is 28y/o. Comes back and can still have 6more yrs. Silly take considering he’s the been the single biggest proponent of “This is a QB driven League”.

Washington is doing, there's been this speculation for around two months now. Can't understand. The job that Bieniemy is doing in Washington is just remarkable, i don't know if he gonna succeed has a head coach seems to rigid, but he's work with Sam Howell, great. Let's be honest, today there's no gap between Sam Howell and Brock Purdy, and neither of the two are "the guy". And giving GM status, is crazy.

Now im late to get here for the comments... but Manning broke some passing records that are still unbroken once he got to Denver. AND he won a superbowl. Also why not risk everything for a title... lord.

I can imagine Colin jumping with happiness when the story came out today. You just hate Watson for his off-field issues, which is fair, but he was turning a corner. I forget that Cowherd is Mr. High Morals and Ego.

Why, cuz qb get injured? This is what I told ppl when they say don't give rb contracts. OTS FOOTBALL EVERYONE GETS HURT... I DO agree tho the qb contract market is out of control. I would not play ANYONE that money, Tom never got it that's why whe won, and maholmes contract didn't get bad until this year( which is why they got rid of hill sold off an olineman and won't be able to afford Chris Jones next year) Cheifs won't win another super bowl for. A long time all things being equal. Bit they have a good chance cuz of maholmes
