I think it means that you don’t do a good job of cleansing your skin if there is still makeup left at the toner stage. Toner is not meant to remove makeup.

I found it interesting that Susan didn’t bring up that pores don’t open and close when desi talked about open pores whilst cleansing. Pores don’t have a muscle surrounding them so it would be impossible for them to open and close, I’m so sick of the beauty industry lying about these things. However u can use warm (warm not hot) water to relax and soften the first layer of the skin, making it easier for products to sink in.

Desi Perkins has such knifesharp cheekbones, it's crazy how regal she looks. I love her bone structure. The night cream maybe has retinol, and the oil dilutes it? I used to use a washcloth to oil cleanse, but it turns out a warm climate and being sensitive to inflammation does not go well with the added warmth and touching :( I loved that step! I will forever mourn that step! But it really doesn't do good things for me. Great video, as always!
@skinsciencebymira5 жыл бұрын
Her toner and the peel pads both have irritating peppermint essential oil as well as witch hazel which is drying then the peel pads have alcohol as the second ingredient. Combined with the retinol and the physical exfoliation and the acids... that’s a lot. Ouch. I agree, skip the peel pads.
@USER-cn6uo5 жыл бұрын
Mira Parker to be clear, the peel pads aren’t meant to be used daily. I’m not sure why she doubled up like that. My derm has me using them 3x a week for a specific issue. Once that’s under control, she wants me to back it down to 1x per week. These are powerful and shouldn’t be layered with another exfoliating product
@skinsciencebymira5 жыл бұрын
USER 2013 I understand that but even 3 times a week would be too much combined with the toner. It’s also completely redundant, the peel pads have salicylic acid while the toner has that plus glycolic and lactic acid. And would be better off sticking to the toner which at least doesn’t have alcohol. Not a fan of the peppermint oil in both of them either.
@USER-cn6uo5 жыл бұрын

Just want to add that your pores aren’t muscles and have no mechanism to open and close. Warm water opening pores and cold water closing them is a myth. Warm water can help stimulate your sebaceous glands and warm up your sebum so that could be helpful but that’s about it. Was surprised when Susan didn’t comment on that actually.

Steam doesn't open pores? I hadn't heard that yet and I watch a lot of skincare videos. The beauty within girls were even promoting a heating and cooling tool from VP.
@skinsciencebymira5 жыл бұрын
Riley Perry yep. Unfortunately a lot of skincare channels don’t have any science or medical background. A basic anatomy class will cover the fact that pores are hair follicles and the only muscle near them would be the arrector pili which are next to the hair follicle and are what raise your hairs and cause goose bumps. There’s no muscle near the opening of the hair follicle and they have no mechanism to open and close. Steam can stimulate your oils glands and soften the skin itself, that’s about it.

i understand the no tugging on the skin notion but let's be realistic, there are certain movements that can cause skin tugging despite your best efforts not to esp. the eye area. taking off eye make up, lashes, etc.

The most damage in skin tugging is done in our sleep and thats what causes most wrinkles and sagging in people. So its best to minimze the damage when were wide and awake and can control it. You wont be there a 100% but at least we can try.

@ninalou46295 жыл бұрын
@@jackie_0221 by sleeping on our face. So if you sleep on your stomach or sides youre causing wrinkles and sagging overtime another example people are not aware of is some people have one cheekbone higher than the other and the lower one always turns out to be the side they sleep on the most. So people try to train themselves to sleep on their back or just get those pillows that have a hole in them in the middle so you can sleep on your side.. theyre expensive i think tho. I for one have more lines under my left eye more than my right eye and my left is the side i sleep on every night. Gotta see if its worth it for you I guess.

I would actually much prefer to see her use oils high in linoelic acid which have been shown to help balance acne and oily prone skin and which can improve skin barrier function. I don’t think marula oil is particularly occlusive but rather an emollient like the majority of oils.

I would actually slightly disagree with you with saying face oils are occlusive, they are actually more emollient, because they work to soften the edges of skin cells, plus penetrate deeper into the pores because your pores are “manufacturers” of oil.
@SusanYara5 жыл бұрын
M G Coulter Oils can be emollient or occlusive depending on which oil it is...this one I would say is more emollient since it has so many fatty acids in it, so i even said I wouldn’t question the order she applied this, especially since it seems her esthetician helped her decide this. That said, not all oils are the same.

You are so right on putting the money toward an aesthetician. I was skeptical at first but then it is really game changer for me. Oils are not occlusives, they are emollients. Just because the consistency is thicker, that does not necessarily mean they need to be applied as the final step. I would forego the oil or just add it to the moisturizer, as it’s only purpose in skincare is to soften the skin and not act as a layer that will prevent water loss from our skin, which is what really contributes to aging or dry skin.

Is there actual documented evidence that supports needing to be SOOO gentle with your eyes? I understand not tugging really hard or rubbing aggressively and stretching the skin on a regular basis, but something as inconsequential as just pulling some false lashes off or gently swiping some eye cream on, I can't imagine it suddenly causing an eruption of wrinkles, and to me, this pervasive dogma about being ridiculously cautious around the eyes just seems like neurotic speculation. People even going as far as saying "ONLY use your ring finger because of how much gentler it is." it comes off as paranoid. It's skin, I literally don't even think tracing paper is as delicate as to be worsely affected by an index finger as opposed to the ring finger, haha. I literally think that tracing paper is stronger than how people treat the skin around the eyes. As far as my advice goes: Be careful around your eye, but don't worry about wiping on product or pulling off lashes. It's skin, it's formidable. It's not going to erupt in wrinkles simply by touching it.

Brianna Bayon i don’t think you need documented evidence. it’s eye skin. the most delicate skin of all. do as little as possible to it

@@nikicima4193 - To me, that's akin to me militantly touting that we should ALWAYS wear sunglasses outside and never look at any screens because our eyes are sensitive. I mean, eyes are very sensitive, right? So it makes sense, right? But the thing is, I have no documented evidence to make such weighty claims to dogmatically advocate that we should exercise that EXTREME degree of caution, and it's exactly how I feel about the skin around the eyes. By all means, the skin around the eyes is fine, but to the degree where one can't even gently swipe some product? If you think about tracing paper which is FAR more delicate than skin, I think you could literally treat it more aggressively than how a lot of people nervously treat the skin under their eyes and it still wouldn't wrinkle. My point is, to advocate such extreme caution, for me personally, requires evidence, and all I've heard is speculation.
