Great video, and it is a shame that another loved channel is struggling. Still, I have been waiting for this one, the Alpha Legion is my favourite chaos Legion. A few things, I think the Alpha Legion by design are a hard one to pin down on colour theory. The Hydra I think represents that they always come back, at least in old law, the inquisition had declared they wiped out a couple of times. Then it also represents that they like to attack from different angles. like different heads coming at you from different angles, while each head is independent to do what it wants. However, your point about the snake does make it seem more appropriate, even with this explanation since two or more snakes could do this, probably better. As for Sunnys design, I like the idea, but they like to end campaigns with a large assault, and like theoretics, showing how good they are. Maybe instead a single bright colour, showing their arrogance and making things complicated to prove themselves? As for chaos influence, that is a hard point in the law. Due to their preferred style of warfare, I imagine most wars they fight are proxy wars, at least for the majority of it, and even then, they might not leave evidence afterwards that they where their. But games like Dawn of War have them as Chaos worshippers, like the Vraks campaign. They have either fallen to Chaos over the last ten millennium, or maybe have a select view, either in a warband, or just select warbands, which are kept 'rotten', clearly chaos worshippers to give the impression they all are. I always thought if I got around to making an army of them, I would have a clearly chaos aligned unit that in the 'law' thought it was in charge and was actually a poster boy for the real master, and have two lords, one in charge but maybe a regular model, with something defining for gameplay purposes, and one who thought he was in charge. This in my mind suits the ideas that a greater mind might still be leading them, and even sets up the chaos warbands to fail, Major Kill had a theory that is why the Alpha Legion at Vraks stuck around to the end, which I like. I would also say, I remember their is a theory that the primarch/s can transferer bodies, and the rest of the legion is trying to prepare bodies, but what if they did not need prepared, and they were just jumping around, basically immortal, leading each warband as they needed? Sorry, that was a tangent.

Wonderful work, guys! I started watching your channel since the "psychology of colors" and "what does your army's colors say about you" (guess it attracts people when you appeal to their own personality, hehe), and ofc i continued with your enjoyable series of Design vs Lore. I wish for you to not be discouraged, since you're not a generic lore channel (and you shouldn't be one) nor a channel where someone speedruns painting bland minis. Compared to other art channels (in WH community) you managed to display and explain color and design theory while others reasoning being that it just looks cool. Much like Cal mentioning that Sunny likes 30k for displaying more personality into the characters , same goes for this channel, having a more pronounced identity than other channels, but also making it a little bit more niche. What, I think, you may need is a little more exposure from other bigger WH youtubers, and i bet you can win many more viewers by this series alone. Wish all the best, and keep those brushes wet!

The Alpha Legion is my favourite Space Marine faction, so I've been anticipating this episode for a long time and you didn't disappoint. Some fun bits that I don't think came up in the video: - They are the 20th legion, i.e. the XXth legion - the Double Cross legion. - It is probable that both of their Primarchs are dead (Guilliman thinks he killed the other one after the Heresy), given the fragmentation of the legion in 40k, but no one is certain and the Alpha Legion like to keep it that way. - You can paint Alpha Legion in pretty much any colour scheme and it's canonical. Dark/not green and blue? They are trying to be mysterious, so you don't know who they are. Bright, colourful and yelling "We're the Alpha Legion!"? They really want you to know they are the Alpha Legion, and they are over here (don't look over there!). - The 40k Alpha Legion doesn't have anyone left from the days of the Heresy. Space Marines live a long time, but outside the warp they don't live 10,000 years. The Alpha Legion are a culture that is still fighting after all this time, like the Imperium, rather than people who fought in the Great Crusade and betrayed the Emperor. As a result, they can be a lot more diverse in how they look/act/believe than the other traitor legions. If I collected them, I would probably collect Primaris and paint them blue/green. A cool inspiration for designing the alpha Legion would be oceanic technology. Scuba gear, submarines, ext. technical, and bulky, but silk and bold. This of course brings your design back to the ocean, but it also adds another layer to them. I love the idea of the Legion having no makers, but what elements they do maintain being distinct. High tech, sleek, minimalist, esoteric, pragmatic, alien. It could also be cool to maintain the scales on their armor. A cool feature that link them to the ocean and snakes, that could also be linked to their technology. Perhaps their cloaking device is linked to the scales. A lot of modern high-tech military hardware also involves similar feelings.

Im painting up my first army as Alpha Legion as my homebrew warband and this is giving me alot of ideas, i especially like the whole "how are you so well equipped" thing. Also i have done plenty of digging into the alpha legion and all of the theories around them myself and every time i see someone talk about there's always a new angle or bit of information. I've heard about the civil war theory before but during the heresy not modern day as the loyal one and the traitor one fought for control of the legion. There is bones to the modern day one though as there are warbands that say they do the things they do are for the health of the imperium and there are also one who hate the imperium and want to burn it to the ground and view those other types of warbands unfavorably.

40:33 the guy with the servo-skulls and mechadendrites (dr octopus metallic arms) could be a techmarine (marines especializated in the use and maintencane of weapons, technology and vehicles). Also the chimney pipes could be a reflection of the industry of the marine. In a very tech focused marine faction he could be very important.

For the prosperity of this channel there is something I would've really liked you to try more because it doesn't seem like youtube algorithm is picking up at how good your videos are for those who are into art and design stuff. I sound weird when I try to bring any of my friends into warhammer and double weird when it's obscure model painting and lore stuff. This stuff is not surface level at all and thus hard to get into. I hate to admit it, but I think I cannot afford to support. Don't get me wrong, I loved your analysis and content of the various legions! I also liked your color theory videos; it helped me decide on a theme and color for my homebrew space marine chapter! Content creation is never easy. You guys did more then enough to entertain your fans as well as express yourself creatively. I offer this final lore segment: there are various chapters of the space marines, as well as traitors, that fans believe marines from the Alpha Legion have established. One such chapter of note are the Sons of Orar. They are a loyalist chapter of unknown founding. It's a bit of a stretch, but they do reference the chapter symbol, the omega, as a potential link. I'm not sure about the strength of this, but it's possible. The Alpha Legion are very sneaky! Also, even loyalist legions have had their own traitors. They just don't want to talk about them because they see it as shame. I do hope you guys find good fortune. Thank you for being here. You say that the “this is all a lie” quote kinda ruins the mystique, but why would you trust a liar when he tells you it’s a lie? It’s intentionally misleading and it forces you into thinking the way the Alpha Legion wants you to think. “If it’s all a lie why should this matter?” Is exactly what the authors intended you to ask. It’s sort of meta in a way I really enjoy, because the Alpha Legion would rather you know nothing about them. If they told you the complete truth but framed it as a lie, how would you ever know the difference? This all could be a lie, but why would you trust a liar to tell you what’s true and what’s not? It could all be the truth veiled as a lie, but that’s rather presumptuous to assume that as well. It could be a mix of both, but you’ll never know.

The name of the group of aliens is the "Cabal". And the Alpha Legion is weird by definition. Some actions help Chaos (Snake Rain!), some actions help the Imperium (Vrask). There are many examples of this dual behavior. And after 20 videos I still think it's wrong to use 20 year old designs. These things don't even correspond to the current models anymore. Like the Primaris, they are just templates for the color schemes based on the models. Still, I had fun with the format.

In my opinion the vast majority of Alpha legion cells are traitor. The legion shattered during the scouring. The loss of Alpharius at pluto meant a good portion of the legion was now unresponsive to omegon as they hid things from each other and he didn't know the commands they were given. Even then books in 40k from alpha legion characters don't dispel completely the possibility of loyalist 40k cells. They themselves don't know any, and think they supposed loyalist would be incredibly stupid to remain so, but rumors persist. Personally i think with time either the loyalist assimilated into existing chapters (that maybe died out and they swapped into them) or simply resurfaced in the unonown funding chapters that sometimes appear out of nowhere (omega marines are pretty sus there) and either ditching or forgetting their origin. Edit: also regarding 40k alpha legion i dislike the chaos armor use. There are corrupted alpha legion warbands for sure, and there are not so corrupted warbands trying to give off the impression of being corrupted. But in general i would like much more a mismatched approach of scavanged armour gears without many or any chaos elements. (It's too tacky, and i honestly dislike chaos back packs. Those nozzles are silly and i haven't figured what's their supposed progression from 30k armours.) Edit 2: yeah I'm sorry for you guys, I also do think the serie is extremely well made for the warhammer standard. I can see the frustration you feel. Personally i didn't even know color psychology existed, along with many others topics related to art, and I could see how people couldn't believe sunny was going blind on some topics. I only discovered the serie in the last few weeks and i thought there was a good improvement compared to earlier videos over the year.

I think the reason you're not getting the channel growth is these legion redesigns are beyond the use of most 40k fans, need a 3d printer and ability to design new bits to do your kind of redesigns on the table and that is a small fraction of the comunity that can do that. I think more people would be able to utilize your content if you looked at what models you think best represents each legion and then use the color psychology stuff to come up with alternate paint schemes, cater your content to the ability of the majority of the fans not the top 5%

Honestly, first impression idk if the two voices cal at the start was the best option. I agree with sunny' take on 30k and 40k based take. I don't completely agree with sunny on removing's all design elements from the legion I would go the route of keeping the shifting scales and hide and legion elements by shrinking them and placing them in hard to see area's like the inside of the collar of the armor. this way they have ways of distinguishing element of there own legion for each other while leaving others confused. this way we keep the spy theme more prevalent. we also cant for get there style of warfare which is the harrowing which is a style of combat were the alpha legion attack from within the ranks and from without while cutting communication off from whom they attack having at least the scale armor could stop them from shooting one another. and a great video.
