Great video Tom. Also, you may be the best dressed man in DIY!

Great video and I agree, nothing to lose when starting with a kit. I started with the C-note center channel kit and loved it so much I got measuring equipment, woodworking tools, soldering iron etc. I now have a couple speakers I'm working on, both my own design. I'm very excited.

That sounds exciting! I started so long ago I was a kid, but to be able to get into speaker building now, do a kit, then jump in once you knew you'd love it is perfect, and proves you took a bite you could chew before eating more. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I've always wanted to try the ND140s but never did for some reason. My wife is psyched to build these! Thanks for watching!

Good Stuff Thomas! I hope she chooses the BR-1's. There are not a lot of build videos on those.

I say for most ppl, get a kit. Let really smart ppl do all the specialized hard work of calculating cabinet volume with the speaker size and excursion, crossover design, etc, etc. You can customize the aesthetics and make them your own. You can have a speaker that is as good as those that manufacturers charge 10x the price. And my wife is like yours, highly unmechanical. At least yours is playing along and ready to give it a go. 🙂

Thanks for watching and commenting... yes, she's willing... I have concerns about the crossover, though. The cabinet not so much. It should be entertaining at least!

Great - but hopefully parts-express will up their game with kit offerings. Not much of a line-up. Looking at the kit offerings of other speaker driver outlets, lot of kits ranging from $200 - $5000. Not saying P.E. should have a $5000 kit. But, looking at P.E. offerings of the new signature series and Dayton Audio AMTHR-4 - These could make for a great kit line-up that potentially would rival SVS, Emotiva, and others. But, as you well stated for not getting a kit - just a flaw in the cross-over design could ruin the overall sound. Thanks

Good points. I believe PE was planning originally to sell the new Opal1 speaker system as a kit, but decided against it due to it not being much cheaper than doing a finished cab. Possibly they may be looking to up their kit game a bit. Thanks for watching and for commenting.

kits are great, i done a few and they work. now i want to make my own designs, but simple woodworking tools make a simple box design too hard to make. accurate cuts is the time saver. but i had to wait until crossovers could be done in dsp, no way i want to get into designing a passive crossover.

Good points, and the reason why kits are so useful. Thanks for commenting!
