Yeah lol, in New Mexico, we take pride in our flag. I have seen somewhere around ten videos and articles ranking flags, and New Mexico is always top five, normally number one. I believe it is the average best flag across all of the rankings I’ve seen, and I don’t think it’s particularly close. Thanks for agreeing lol, we don’t have too much to be proud of.

I tried to focus on the flags as wholes and didn't really dive too deep into the state seals as the video wasn't geared towards that but I could do a video on state seal designs at some point because there are some wild things on some of these seals 😂

This rules thing is crazy, you put so much flags in the bottom tier, without even looking at them individually. You aren’t grading the flags by their design. You are outsourcing your opinion to RECOMMENDATION( as stated in that very pamphlet) just to be uncontroversial. The ideal flag according to that book is a boring MS paint graphic design that ignores culture history and the people.

We all have our own opinions about design as good design is partially subjective. However, the reason I focus so hard on those recommended guidelines is because they're effective. Coat of Arms/State Seal flags don't have much design to judge. The biggest designed thing on them is the seal itself and I'm not doing a video on the design of the seals. Flags and seals should be distinct from each other while still communicating similar themes as they relate to the same state. The reality is that those flags are just lazy and AS A FLAG, they don't make for good design. As a seal, perhaps they do, that'd be a different video. You may not be a big fan of simpler flag designs and would prefer more detail and that's fine, that's where the subjective part of design comes in, but a large part of people like the simpler easier to understand approach, because they work better as flags. Design's effectiveness also comes down to its medium, if you have a 200 meter tall flagpole and a flag with a state seal at the top, I'd be willing to be more people wouldnt be able to tell which flag is up there, but go with a simpler design, like the flag of Chicago for example, and suddenly it becomes easier to discern.

@@acelm8437 haha I know it wasn't two weeks I was just poking fun at Texas. As for the ranking, despite it's popularity, I don't feel that Texas' flag is unique enough. It's a stars and stripes flag that's very nice to look at, but doesn't do anything different. The red, white, and blue represent typical traits that are used for flags, being purity, bravery, and loyalty. The lone star concept represents Texas' unity as a state but also their independent spirit, which is cool, but it isn't uniquely Texan, nor was it something created by Texas, in fact the lone star concept in North America was first seen in the short lived Republic of West Florida. Additionally, while the flag's have no relation nor connection to each other, I think of the flag of Chile, and how similar it is. The Chilean flag is so similar that it becomes apparent that the design doesn't stand out, and that other nations found themselves reaching near identical layouts. So I don't think it's a bad flag at all, I do like it, but given the nature of me ranking these by design, I don't think it's a unique enough flag to really sell it as a truly amazing flag. Of course, this is all personal opinion, and my criteria for an S tier flag isn't the same for other people, so take my opinion with a grain of salt
