It's funny how you say your bionic eye. When I was in my late 30s I developed cataracts in both of my eyes. After some time of me struggling with it( was so bad I carried a magnifying glass in my pocket to just read things) was a maintenance mechanic at a food grade production plant, My supervisor came in without me noticing him. He stood behind me watching my progress as I welded a crack in a shear plate that holds long knives. When I stopped he told me it was a hell of a nice weld but I missed the crack completely.😂. About a month later I had found a way to get lazer surgery to put new lenses in my eyes! A week later I saw perfectly, from legally blind to better than 20/20 vision. I tell people I have bionic eyes now, and they reflect light like animals eyes too!😂😂😱😁!! Rock on Chad And Jolene! Love watching ya

Chad I am liking the door shape and will be curious how you do the steps to get in and also how you're going to do the floor in the cab. It will be interesting to see how you do the interior and steering etc. I know you will make it all work but jus trying to visualize it completed. Anyway Chad great work and you're one hell of a lucky man to have Jolene, she is a great companion for you. She is beautiful, does an amazing job filming and not afraid to get her hands dirty helping you out.

It seems to me that the only way the door can open away from all of its edges (short of a more complicated hinge) is to have the hinge axis outside of all of the edges of the door; meaning the axis would sit on an angle if the hinge is to stay close to the car. Then... it seems best to do a suicide door with a hinge point at the bottom (as it curves way from the door) and at or near the top of the door. (Or a gullwing :) By capping the inside of the door frame one is further limited as to where the edges of the door move. IMHO Thanks Chad!

Chad if you try to use "Swing away door hinges" be aware that the rear (assuming that the hinge is at the front) of the door will move backwards by a considerable amount, and will hit the lower bulge! this is the reason why the Mercedes used the gull wing doors on their 1955 300SL, or the lamborghini doors were needed etc, you could try to mount the lower hinge at the wide part of the bulge, as long as you angle/align with the top hinge angle, they MUST on the same pivot line, this would possibly be the simplest method (the pivot line MUST be in line with both hinges) the other solution would be to scolloping the bottom front of the door to allow the door to open, you did "tape" this design on one of your early videos, and which I mentioned in my earlier post. Again if you would like to discuss it feel free to contact me.

I'm glad you're eye's doing better. Just a quick question for you . Why didn't you put some square tubing on the edge where you are 45ing the weld for strength ? I'm sure it will be strong enough with out it but, since it's a spot you will either sit or stand on then wouldn't you want the extra strength ? Of course I am used to working with 20-22 gauge steel so I am always wanting more strength. It must be really nice to work with 18 gauge. Sorry just one more question. With the type hinge that is on the top doesn't that swing to the outside ? So unless you wanted hidden hinges which would look great too wouldn't those work for you ? I really like the headlights that you have welded on there rather than the Mercury ones that it had before. I'm really looking forward to seeing it all one color or bare steel so youo don't have the distraction and you get a better look at what it will be. Of course you can change the way you see it by stripes or even the way you could split it with a second color. I guess that's why I love working on cars so much, that is the creativity that each person can put into his/her own project. I guess that may be the reason that the RAT ROD is so popular. Have a great weekend.

Hello from Ontario Jolene and Chad i was wondering if i may pick your brain.... for quite awhile now i have been toying with an idea for a build of my own, my issue i have run into is this.... the project is based on a 40-41 chev COE like the one in the movie jeepers creepers. Now i know it is a very hard body style to find so i have decided to make my own seeing i have alot of the equipment to do so, but my issue is even when completed how would i go about registering it for the road, would it be classified as a homebuilt? FYI i just want the look of the front end the rest will be my own frame custom sleeper cab and flat deck with a Cummins 12 valve backed by a 13 speed Eaton Fuller. Ahead thank you for any input or direction you may have....Cheers!!!
