I'm a patreon and downloaded the basic lantern file and love the possibilities. I appreciate you sharing it and last night I experimented with it but I was creating separate images for each panel. Just so you know, ALL my design downloads include .ai, .dxf, .svg and .lbrn2 formats. If you wanted to use my designs, they should work with ANY laser software that allows you to import files. What software do you use?

Thank you. A few folks have expressed having problems duplicating the Halloween lantern with the bats in the spiderweb. Likely from not being as familiar with their laser as I am mine, or their laser just isn't capable. I am making some alternative designs for that piece and for the panel in the winter lantern with the smallest snowflake. The tiny details are giving people problems. I can do them. Afterall, I am Hobo With Wood. (he-he.) But I don't anyone to be frustrated, so I will be posting a free download with the alternative pieces. Thanks for your support.

I see you are a subscriber. I would hate to lose even one subscriber. I learned many years ago you should never have any MSRP conversavtions. They will inevitably lead to discord. MSRP? Money, Sex, Religion, or Politics. I respect your opinion. I hope you can say the same for mine. The name "Hobo With Wood" is loaded with innuedndo. My sense of humor is and wll always be the same way. The fourth word in your comment is "extremely". Exremeism leads to intolerance. Intolerance leads to disputes and divison. That is what's wrong with this country and this world, too much division. Am I saying you should be tolerant of all things? No. Philippians 4:5 says, "Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand." I was brought up in an extremist religious cult-like environment. I watch those claiming to be Christians condemning their neighbors behavior and talking about them behind their back. All while professing to be they themselves Christlike. I do not believe any of the old laws, (Old Testament), have any weight to them any longer. Most of the extremists I know love the thump the Bible and quote the Old Testament. When Jesus died on the cross, he created a new covenant with man. When asked how one can get into heaven, his reply was simple. 1. Have no other Gods before me. And. 2. Love thy neighbor as thyself. My innuendos do nothing to violate that covenant. I have violated my own rule about MSRP conversations. I touched on both religion and politics, revolving around division. Who is it that is said to seek division? Matthew 7 says, "1“Judge not, that you be not judged. 2For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. 3And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? 4Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? 5Hypocrite! First Thanks for your content. It's been tremendously helpful. Next, what smoke extraction method do you use? I see a design cutting behind you here and don't see any smoke filling the area or room.

I use fans. Simple fans. I have one fan slighyly off camera that is blowing towards a window that is also slightly off camera on the other side. The window has a double fan sitting in the window blowing outward. The first fan directs the flow of the smoke and the window fan sucks it outside. Works great for me. Proximity to the window is key.

I purchased the halloween one and not able to get the bats to cut out properly. Made several adjustments in speed and power and it burns out the bats or does no cut all of the way through the material. Using 3mm plywood and Atomstack 20 air on. Any guidance would be appreciated.

one suggestion : cut a whole in what you called the 'doorstop' piece slightly larger that your tealight so the light won't slid around.

Too many variables on tealight sizes. But. A good suggestion to the end user that knows what their tealight dimensions are.

Thanks for the great instructional video. Liked it so much I purchased the Halloween and Christmas scene lanterns from your website. Using 10W Ortur diode laser. Five of 6 panels cut great. Will have to redo one which is no problem. However with the small bat with web panels, I could not get the web to be included. Web just got burned/cut out. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I discovered yesterday that there is an issue with Lightburn that corrupted the files with the lanterns. The bug causes the slots and tabs to resize incorrectly. If you resize them and check the new size, you'll notice they did not resize to the size you told it to go to. It also cuts out more material than it should. But because the video states, the file would be available for free until Tuesday, I thought it would be better to leave it. I am posting a video today explaining. I'll be making a corrected file with everyone who downloaded the corrupt files this week. I am also making improvements to the website and will email the new files to those with emails on file. Sorry for the inconvenience. But this problem was caused by a problem in Lightburn. The design is "flawless," like I claim my files to be. 😁 The fixed file will be out this week. Thanks for your understanding and your support.

I had never used so much as a word processor. I jumped in with both feet and got a pretty good handle on it in just a few months. It is very user friendly and the "undo" button makes it very forgiving.

The design is completely scalable. It can be made using any material or material thickness. I explained in the video the dimensions of the tool paths used to cut out as is. I have stopped answering questions that are clearly explained in the video... BUT, this maybe wasn't as clear. I used a text overlay to show and describe the material used. This, like most of my designs, is layed out on 300mm x 300mm work areas. The entire project can be cut out of 2 pieces of material.

Wondering.......is there a way to make the slots attaching it together round instead of rectangle/square, so it would look like a nail instead of a laser cut slot ?

First, let me thank you for watching my video. I hope you found it informative and you've already subscribed to the channel. If you haven't, I'll wait a second while you go do that.... Done? Great. Now as far as you question about making the slots used to attach the pieces round instead of rectangular so it will look like a nail instead of a laser cut slot...hmmmmm. I've always been told you can put a round peg in a square hole if you hit it hard enough. You simply asking about doing the opposite. The veritcal pieces are going to be retangular if you cut them with the laser. And you can cut a small nail size hole. But you will need a bigger hammer than @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy uses when assembling. I kid. Rich uses a hammer to assemble because he makes his cuts so tight you don't need glue to hold his pieces together. And I kid you because I recognize you haven't done many, if any builds like this. But like you, I too, like to hide the slots and tabs on my pieces if I won't to make them look like a more "finished" piece. Not everyone agrees with the two of us. Most folks like to see them. They like the look of the burnt edges. And if you're not going to paint it and put a nice finish on it, the slots do give the piece some much needed contrast. What I do is cut an extra trim piece that goes on top to completely cover the slots and add an additional layer that simply gives it more substance. I like to either hide the slots or accentuate them with an engraving to encorporate the slots into the overall design and appearance. I hope this answers you question and you weren't put off by my sense of humor/smart alecky remarks.

@@HoboWithWood Not at all offended, put off, or over sensitive about anything you said. Sometimes I think wayyyy beyond the typical mind set and wayyy outside the box, so ask odd ball questions. That said...yes, I'm new to this and trying to learn. I just see so many boxes that start to all look the same with those square slots, it starts to stand out really bad for me. I did see someone create a little decorative piece that went over them. I just like the thought of perhaps an aged, rough surface nail tip. Which could also be accomplished with just affixing a tiny round piece of wood ca glued over each slot (or something like that). Thanks for the reply. Sorry if it the question turned out a pain in the butt to answer. FYI---not all chics are over sensitive and can't take kidding or sarcasm. I function on both most times. 🙂

When you downloaded the free SVG file why would you need to trace it? I thought tracing converted a bitmap to a vector format which a SVG already is.

I can't remember this particular instance, but... typically, what I do is copy the image instead of downloading it. I copy the image and paste the image into Lightburn. So, I didn't bring an SVG into the software. I prefer not to have a bunch of random downloads on the computer. And I'm concerned about what all is actually being downloaded when you download FREE files. They could be the bait that's gets you unwanted Trojans. I could be wrong, but I feel safer doing it this way.

Hey Steve. I have the LM3. I just got the halloween lantern file from you and love it. The problem I have is when I cut out the small piece with the bat in the web, it basically just burns it up. Using air assist and tried full air and then slowed it down to no avail. Is there a trick to get this so it wont burn up since it is very small? Thanks!

It could be a material issue. I have no problem. It is small and it is fragile, especially if you are using thinner or lesser quality material. I use a premium product that cost me a little more money. But I find it provides excellent results. Another possibliity is if the focus is slightly off. You may or may not be aware as you move the laser in and out of focus the laser beams gets wider. When it is in perfect focus for the material you are using it will be at it's smallest size. HOWEVER, lasers have multiple focus points depending on what you are doing. For example. When I am engraving and cutting the same piece of material, I will do me engravings first. I will have the laser focused to the surface of the material. Then when I want to cut that material, I refocus the laser head to what would be the center of the material. I lower the laser half the distance of the thichness of the material. I find this to give me better results. It takes a little longer adding the step of refocusing the laser to cut. But as I said, I get better results. The material I use is this hobowithwood.com/premiumbalticbirch. It is simple enough to simply delete the web and the bat and use whatever design you like. But it will work with the right focus, power and speed for your laser. I've made many of them.

I replied immediately to you blank email. Asking what you needed. You have a history of purchases from the site. Is this the first time you've had problems? Since you downloaded the template file while it was free, that tells me you got the corrupt verison of that file. I will send you an email with all three files. Be sure and DELETE any previous versions of the template files before downloading.

I would perfer to address problems like this via email instead of the comments on KZbin. But just in case you are not the only person having a problem I'll try to handle it here. I have checked both the PC and Mobile versions on the site. I have no problem loading either. I had the business next door go to the site. They have never been there before, and it loaded immediately. I have had a couple of sales from the website since you started posting these comments. This all tells me this is most likely a PICNIC error. You have been on the site before, I see and appreciate your purchase history. But this appears to be on your end and not the website. The first thing I can think of is try clearing the cache in your browser. Make sure you haven't turned on some securty measuer that's blocking the site. I can't think of a reason that any firewall should block the site, but that could be a problem depending on you security settings. I can't say where the problem is, but I can say it is not with the website. I do hope you get it figured out and continue to support this humble Hobo.
