Chef builds a calming sanctuary on restaurant grounds

Chef and owner of Mrs. Saldo's - a private dining restaurant in Silang, Cavite - Rhea Rizzo found that when her family would visit her at work, they wouldn't have a place to stay at especially when the restaurant was full of guests. During the lull between lunch and dinner, Rizzo herself yearned for a space to reenergize before the next service.
That's when she decided to build the Ikigai House which is a stark contrast to the lush surrounds of Mrs. Saldo's. While Mrs. Saldo's is a maximalist patchwork of designs from different cultures such as Californian, Peranakan and Moroccan, the Ikigai House is a pared down, Zen-like space. The space is also open for guests to stay overnight as a complete Mrs. Saldo's experience.

What a wonderfully calming and nurturing space. The perfect realisation of Ms. Rizzo's vision with materials and personal flourishes that elevated the overall design. One small critique: it would have been nice to experience the atmosphere of the gardens, the house and the dining spaces by night, and to see how the mood changed. So few videos show properties by night, but it's fascinating to see how a design works at night in combination with the lighting concept and so on. Another outstanding video though!
