In response to your Braidlocs CONS I'd say this from my experience: Braidlocs are similar to sisterlocs and we've all seen how full and dense sisterlocs can be. A person getting braidlocs needs to get parting sizes less than a half inch especially if they don't have a lot of hair density then go as small as possible. Any size bigger than less a half inch will prove disastrous. Also braidlocs need to be washed weekly and hydra-moisturized every other day or washed bi-weekly and hydra-moisturized every day to to create fluff and loosening of the braid pattern. To achieve fluff in your braidlocs you need a minimum of 400. I have 530 braidlocs. And shed-hair does sit in the braidloc, same as every other loc. Braidlocs need to mimic the pattern and process of sisterlocs in order to mature successfully.

My braid pattern is definatley gone to the eye (I can still feel them)but I attribute that to only braiding down from root to a certain point they filled in very nicely.

You cant tell what your getting until years down the line with locs. If you dye your locs when they grow longer you may nottice weak spots. Locs popping off. If you go too small bc you want that 'neatness" the locs will continue to compact as they mature and you may be facing breakage down the line. My locs are 10 years old. You dont want to have hair down your back and have to think about cutting it all off bc you went to small.

You do not need to cut off your braided portion if it takes too long to loc. There is a YT lady that eventually upbraided her unlocked portion and interlocked from end of loc to tip of the newly unbraided loc. Key point. Dont make your braids tight. If they are lose down the length of the braid they will loc faster. I am 21 months into my small (not micro) braidloc journey. I have always interlocked. The style I was going for was a lot smaller than traditional and larger than sisterlocs. So a thicker version of sisterlocs. Most of my locs in the back are fully locked. My middle and front are about 30%. I doubt that I will unbraid and interloc. But you never know....As my locs mature I do miss my curly ends. Zero regrets.
