I was a sommelier at a high end restaurant in the 90’s. At that time success in the wine market was driven by creativity and bold, provocative choices and the masters of the wine world were like gods. Then California grape growers figured out they could produce massive quantities of big, fruity grapes that produced really flavorful wines, but lacked depth and for the most part were exceedingly redundant. Thats when the marketing gurus showed up and started boosting labels that had no special character other than huge capital behind the brand. The reason they were so redundant is they were all using the exact same juice purchased at large juice consortiums. These consortiums bought grapes from hundreds of different growers and made a kind standardized juice available to all winemakers. This has led to what you see in stores these days…a bevy of decent-mediocre wines that all taste the same and all sell for about 14 dollars. This is what will happen to the frag industry as well…that’s the cost of these influencers. The true creative masters will be driven out of the market and we will be left with hundreds and hundreds of mediocre, decent smelling shower gel blue frags.

Had a Sample of DesirToxic a few years ago, when nobody on YT talked about it and i remember not being impressed, rather not really liking it, although i like green fragrances. So i don’t care for the intense Version. To the other Topic: Learned my lesson to find my own taste of fragrances and not to get influenced by KZbinrs. I do watch a few fragrance reviewers just for entertainment purpose and to may hear they take. But i ride my own way by discover & smelling in Stores or go online and getting Samples…

I got the original for $90 a few years back. Green/brown and spicy is how I’d also describe it. It smells like a modern Drakkar Noir with its soapy facet. For $90 it is WAY more complex than any designer!

Hmm.
@boogiedaddy34345 ай бұрын
I wouldn't mind trying this one and the original. Though the OG was certainly part of the FBB, it is one of those rare instances where a few of those guys still talk about it from time to time and it didn't completely vanish. I always heard the OG was in the Layton ballpark, but with cannabis added.
@Ekiboy15 ай бұрын
It is sort of. Also some Le Male DNA going on! The cannabis note is really not there to be honest. You really need to use your imagination to get that note. Minty, fresh, spicy is more how I would describe it. Good shaving cream! Cannabis scent it is not, no matter what reviews say!

@@mjn1332 I know. But still, from the FFB, he is the only one I visit once in a very long while. He is the least biased from the FFB... at least that's my opinion. I don't think he is in anyone's pocket. I found his nose to be similar to mine in quite a few occasions. Just to give you perspective, I watch him once in a few months, for PdMs and such. I won't view his opinion on real niche (and most of my collection is real niche). For that I need a nose like Mark. The rest of FFB I've watched only once or twice, understood that I'm dealing with a salesman rather than a reviewer - and I never watched them again, like Jeremy, Steven etc. There are even influencers that I've never watched, not even once, like Demi. My GOTOs are Mark, Ram, Dariush, AC and a few others.

@@mjn1332 Fotgot to mention - I never blind buy. Furthermore, I always try a full sample on my skin before buying. I dont suffer from FOMO. I can not be influenced. That's why I only have around 25 bottles of mostly niche perfume that agree with my VERY picky nose/skin (the pickiest, far pickier than Mark or Ram).

I dont agree, i think the Desire toxics scratchy rough edges are what makes it interesting, and its far more komplex then a Designer scent. The black currant is so well done. And the drydown into a old school fougere is sublime. I hate linear scents so imo it is very nice that it changes so much during wearing

Nah man, just one sniff of the original and i know why it's populair. And it's not free bottles. It's designer-esque and there is a reason why those scents sell. But Desir Toxic is a little more complex and interesting. It is a good one for a beginner to branch out to niche.

Honestly I am not sure I understand his point. Evidently free bottle reviews are bad. OK, he has the money to buy new releases but he prefers not to. So how do you get bottles to review? He hates wide release designer brands. OK respect. I am not sure I understand his problem with other influencers. I appreciate he has a beef with the industry but this video didn’t really clear it up. It seems his reputation is built on the love for obscure micro niche perfumers. Again respect. He has a sophisticated nose and that is why we are all watching him. The evolution of a cologne connoisseur is we start out designer then evolve to more complex and niche brands. I don’t look down my nose at people who prefer fresh scents. As a matter of fact, if he really wants to pick up viewers then find some micro niche brands with really outstanding, fresh, and well blended scents. Then find a wonderful, cooler weather scent that’s mass appealing but from a niche brand that appeals to the connoisseur but also to Marc’s penchant for micro niche brands. Otherwise just stand pat shitting on good but not great brands and promoting the ultra rare brands no one has ever heard of that smell like makeup and no one can afford. I guess I am saying surely there is a happy medium. Before you make a scorched earth video decrying the industry look in the mirror and have a self assessment. Or perhaps hire a consultant to help you advance your brand. It seems your desire for more subscribers and your desire for creative independence are at odds and is obscuring your message. And on a purely selfish level find me a signature scent, fresh, likable, long lasting, and great sillage scent similar to Percival but in a really cool micro niche brand no one has ever heard of. That’s what we are all really looking for. Mass appealing, fresh, no brainer scents we can pull off whenever and wherever we want. Then help us find that other scent that we can come home and put on which makes us feel like George Clooney . So if we want a $30 clone we will watch Ash. If we want an high quality lesser known niche brand we come here. There is room for both. Bottom line enough powdery, lilac, and rose scents. Help us smell amazing but like men!

Sounds like you don't watch his videos

His point is that free bottles should not affect how you review the fragrance. But for a lot, it does. You get a bottle for free, it is 9/10 automatically. There is no honesty!
