this happened to me for weeks, I prayed and humbly asked the Lord to give me the ability to read and meditate. I did this day and night for weeks. The Lord restored me. Now, my joy found in the Scriptures.

This may go without saying, but I have learned how important it is to pray before I read my Bible. Because I don’t always know how to pray, I use God’s Word and ask Him to fulfill what He says. Here are some of the passages that come to mind: “Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭119:11‬ ‭ “Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭119:105‬ ‭‬‬ “The entirety of Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever.” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭119:160‬ ‭‬‬ “But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭13:23‬ ‭‬‬ “That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,” ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭1:17-18‬ ‭‬‬ “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭55:11‬ ‭‬‬ Every verse of Psalm 119 speaks of what the Word Of God does. Take a verse and make it personal. God will always answer prayer that is in line with what He says in His Word. And something I discovered over time is that some of the things I read in the Bible may not mean much at the time, but it remains hidden and stored up in my heart. At unexpected yet necessary times, those hidden Words come. Lastly I’d just like to add that times in Bible Study should be set apart. Read when you can actually focus all your attention to it and don’t rush it. “My son, give attention to My words; Incline your ear to My sayings.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭4:20‬ ‭

clara phiri I also have problems praying I do not also know what to pray. I say the same prayer every time. It is hard if you can not hear the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit teaches us what to pray. Next time try asking the Holy Spirit what you should pray. I usually just talk to God and tell Him how I feel. Try this ask God to open up the Bible to you. I heard people have done this and God has given people visions of the Bible while they are reading the Bible. Sister have you been delivered yet? Cause if not it could mean that the enemy is hindering your prayers. Sister try ministering to your Spirit. Our souls are used to being in control. When we turn to Christ it should be our Spirit that should be in control. Our Spirits have the attributes of God not our soul.

And when you gain confidence ask your Spirit to take over.. Sister seek out a deliverance minister. And get delivered your soul could be in bondage cause of Generational curses, ungodly soul ties, and other thing like sins. Sister you can not get your gifts 🎁 from God if you are under bondage. It is the enemy that puts the curses on us. The enemy will not let you use the gifts God gave you unless you are delivered by Jesus through a deliverance minister. Pray before reading every single time. The Holy Spirit has to give us the understanding we need to ask in prayer. Then you read as an act of obedience not out of feelings. Love will come later as a reward a product of the obedience in faith. Then you will develop this love passion respect administration gratitude for the word of God as the greatest treasure in your daily living. Truly it will open your eyes, make you wise, give joy to your heart, transform your mind, shape your vision, your thoughts, your desires. It is the greatest thing you can do for you and your family.

I know exactly how you feel. Psalms 77:3 says, “I remembered you, God, and I groaned; I meditated, and my spirit grew faint.” Asaph felt far from God, and his solution was to praise God and remember His great works in verses 11‬-‭12‬, ‭14, “I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds… You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples.” Praise God, even in the midst of your dry season. God will water your path and nourish you. Also remember the greatness and strength of God’s unlimited power; He made a way for the Israelites, He’ll make a way for you. I’ll pray for you and go through this with you, because I feel the exact same way. You’re not alone, God is making your paths straight ❤❤❤

I ask God to read the Bible to me. Also, enter His presence with praise. Refresh your mind as to who He is. Who is it that you are spending time with? He is our rock, our strength, our hope and understanding, we are the apple of His eye. Read with Him, tell Him you want to know His heart, His thoughts toward you. Tell Him of your thoughts for Him, your heart for Him. Then quiet your mind and perceptions so that you can hear Him speak.

If I may add to what Pastor John has said... Your emotion is a product of what you think. To pay attention and turn your ear to the scripture implies a conscious thought to action. It means to remove distractions and focus your mind on the words your read and what they mean in context. Then there is the subconscious thought that produces emotion. It is like learning any skill in that training by conscious action becomes second nature to you. It becomes an unconscious thought to action. The conscious and the unconscious is a peculiar change in the heart that produces a pleasing emotion. It may be a barely perceptible feeling but the ability to recall knowledge reinforces the change that produces the good emotion. The application of knowledge in life is training for the emotional pleasure that is from the heart. Does this make sense?

I think it is necessary to acknowledge differences in people. Some people put feelings first and other people put thoughts first when dealing with life and both methods are good except to the exclusion of either feelings or thoughts. Both are essential to a healthy mind so don't hear me say there is a heirarchy of importance where one is king over the other. Regardless of priority there is an undeniable relationship of causality. If I think a truth there is an inevitable emotional response to that truth in my life. For example, say I believe it is true the scripture is not relevent to my life. The effect will be I feel it is a waste of time to read my Bible. If I think it is true the scripture is wisdom from God for my life, then I will feel a desire to read my Bible. Even though I do not feel anything after I have read my Bible, at most I can say I do not have thoughts from understanding what I have read. If I begin to believe reading my Bible does not impact my life because I do not feel anything, I will lose my desire to read the scripture. The writer of Proverbs says, *...it is pleasing when you keep them in your heart and have all of them ready on your lips.* The New International Version (Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan, 2011), Pr 22:18. In the ancient Hebrew culture, the heart, as used in Proverbs, is the deepest recess of our person and the seat of our desires. I must think the scripture in order to keep them ready to speak. I don't feel pleasure just by reading them. It doesn't say, "pleasing when you read them..." rather it says pleasing when you keep them in the deepest recesses of our thoughts and desires and recall them to the lips. I hope that is more clear. Anyway, that is my understanding from scripture.

I think what Piper means by apply your heart is to make your heart tender to God , Allow Him to speak life into your heart by choosing to apply your heart. A lot of the time our pain, pride, unrepented sin, doubt, and hopes deferred hardens our heart from Hearing God and seeing Him as He is. We have to humble ourselves and admit to God that we can’t come into His presence apart from Him. “Be still (stop striving) and know that I am God (Be in awe of Him).

Go outside and get some physical exercise. You can't find divinity if all you do is read the Bible, you need to *see* the beauty of the world, you need to struggle in it. So, go outside, preferably into nature where there's green, and exercise. The purpose of the Bible is *not* to give you free ecstasy, the purpose of the Bible is to teach you *wisdom.*

I wonder just how many have fallen away. What I mean is, after that initial euphoria (?) has worn off and the work and drudgery...and then falling into temptation, because the darkness of this world knows all the honey traps that are required to really destroy a believers faith. Its hard. Ever notice how 'easy' life is if you are not praying...or going through the motions. The trouble starts when you attempt to live this 'new life' . Dont get me wrong. I do subscribe to the fact that Christ IS the only way. I only have to look at how we behave as people, the worst aspects I might add, to see we do need a Saviour.

Jacob Lopez I found myself in a similar situation as well for the past 2 years or so. The practical advice I can give you is 1) confess your sin. Sin clouds our minds to the beauty of God to the point we feel as though He's left us completely. 2) Get involved in your church. The edification from fellow believers is crucial to your sanctification. 3) Pray alongside the elders of your church or your pastor. This is so important. I believe the Scriptures alone to be our sole authority in faith and practice, but God has given us the local church to strengthen us and grow us.

Well Jacob, one thing is certain: people are praying for you. KhiavDim mentioned it specifically; the other respondents most likely are as well. You are as well; as you said, you are "crying out to God", which is just what prayer is. I won't claim to be able to explain how that can and does help, other than that I've experienced the truth of it, and more importantly, the Bible (James 5:16) says it does - "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much". Another thing, and it's no small matter: when you cry out to God, you MUST address those prayers to the Lord Jesus Christ. You didn't mention Him specifically, so I don't know for sure if you are or not. Whatever the case, Jesus Christ is the one to whom we must all pray, if we are to have any hope of those prayers being answered. "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” - Acts 4:12. He is our one and only advocate before the Father...and He does listen, and He does care. "Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you." - 1 Peter 5:6-7 The road is hard as a Christian; it is a constant struggle, perhaps especially with our own sin. But the reward is worth it. Blessings brother.

anna idom I said sorry to God for being a sinner then I was baptised by full immersion in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit and asked God to come and live in my heart. I then received the Holy Spirit and spoke in a new language that I never knew before. After receiving the Holy Spirit the scriptures were opened to me in a way I never knew before. Please read John 3:3-7

I just don't know what to do sometimes. I've been hitting a readers block for a good while now. I sit down at my desk, I get my notebook out, get my pens etc. I get my Bible out, and sit there. I can't bring myself to open it and read. I don't just don't understand it. When I do read, I can't seem to stay interested. And it really makes me feel bad about myself.

I read the Bible and have read it for years. Yet I would love the Lord to give me the wisdom Pastor John has. At 3:31 he says what I try to do. I listen to the words of the wise. "Faith comes from hearing. And hearing from the Word if God." I know for a fact that the scriptures being quoted come from the Word of God. Because I have read them before. Yet I have a terrible memory . To me it's very important to listen to wise men to understand God's word.

What if you have really bad dyslexia and ADHD? it’s really hard for me to sit still and to try to understand? It was hard to understand what pastor John was saying? I want to connect so bad to his living word and to feed me, but I have a constant battle in my mind that really makes it difficult. When I read devotionals and when somebody breaks it down it’s easier for me to understand, but it’s still hard to remember. At the end of the day I try and put trust into him that somehow he will reveal and help me understand. I just wanna learn some techniques?

2 Corinthians 12:9 “But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.” God understands what you’re dealing with and HIS grace is sufficient for all of us! My advice would be to keep on pushing on. Find some verses that you can meditate on and ask God to help you in prayer. Prayer to our Heavenly Father is powerful and He can break all strongholds. Know that you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you and you’re more than a conqueror through Him who loves us. Although I may not understand the severity of what you’re going through, God does, and He is faithful. He can make a way when there seems to be no way. I encourage both of you guys to stay faithful to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I prayed for you and God bless you! 🙏🏾

Ephesians 2:8-10 says salvation is a free gift we get from believing and trusting In jesus, you do not have to get baptized or obey first. Those things come afterwards. Paul said he didn't baptise people and they got saved. So did the theif on the cross, Cornelius in acts 10 didn't repent or get baptized first, yet God saved him cause of faith. Jesus is Yahweh God in a human body(john 1). He died, was buried and rose again for our justification to make us right with God. We can and should Obey, reoent, be baptized, ask forgiveness and confess Jesus is Yahweh in the flesh, but those things do not save us, faith does. We do not obey God to stay saved or get saved. We obey God out of love. I have a teacher who is a bible scholar And knows the greek and hebrew and history of the bible and knows it better than most people do, I learn from him. relax hun, Jesus loves you. Just talk to him and trust him. Go to messianicapologetics.net to learn more about the bible from a scholars perspective, someone who knows the Greek and Hebrew and history of the bible.

Keep also in mind, the world we live in today is fixated on their feelings. God's Word works within those that believe, but first you must read. *1 Thessalonians 2:13 (nkjv)* _13 For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe._ Lastly, it is the Holy Spirit that interprets God's Word, and not human flesh, we will not understand everything we set our eyes on to read, for God gives us each day our daily bread, what His Word discerns within us, that we need. For His Word is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart, and knows what we need at any given moment. Our emotions are hardly a factor, as the world itself is MOVED by emotions.

I know you wrote this months ago but...humans. Humans need feelings. God deserves praise in every circumstance, I agree with you on that. Even when we don't feel like it we are under scriptural obligation to acknowledge and lift up God. But to say that feelings have nothing to do with praise is definitely another story. Emotion is a beautiful creation of God. The Bible says to delight in Him. How can you do so without your heart feeling inclined to do so?
@cseay50
@cseay50 6 жыл бұрын
Simply put, you can’t have a feeling (emotions) without a thought. Your thoughts are the locomotive & your feelings are the train cars that follow it. The Bible instructs us to take our “thoughts” captive to the obedience of Christ, not our feelings. Loving God is about “delighting” in Him, not simply “doing.” Some would say it this way, “it’s the heart stupid.” It’s very positive to note ones recognition & desire to love God earnestly & genuinely is self evident that the Holy Spirit is likely at work in someones life. To quote Neil Anderson, “if your thinking isn’t based in Gods truth then what your feeling isn’t based in reality. Stated another way, “while what we’re feeling may be real, our feelings don’t always reflect reality.” A life based primarily on feelings & emotions instead of beliefs & convictions is likely a life filled with much regret & heartache.

Nothing this guy is saying is resonating in/with me at all. I do believe in God/Yashua, but no matter how much I pray and ask Him to show me what is lacking within me; no matter how much I "dethrone" my own wants and desires fervently in favor of what He wants for me instead; no matter how much time I put into His word and ponder it and absorb it into my mind and heart; no matter how much I pray and seek His counsel and will- no matter how much I do all of these things, there is just nothing of any evidence at all that He hears me and is working any "plan" in this life I live. I've heard it all before, read all the responses of every possible type, stripe, and variety, and - nothing. Or am I to conclude that, for whatever reason, I am not one of God's "elect"; never was, and never was intended to be? Didn't God say in the Commandment "visiting the iniquity of the fathers unto the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me"? Did someone in my bloodline generations back curse God and hate Him and I'm being visited with their iniquity? Am I a victim of something someone else did generations before I was born and now must face not only wholesale rejection by God but a place in the lake of fire as well, to be nothing more than a worm who can only respond to the agony of the flames which for me will never die? What exactly have I willfully done to be so rejected by God? Being born (and not asking to be), or having a nature of sin thrust upon me at birth (Roman's 8:20) that I did not ask for and would never have willingly taken upon myself at my own hand had I somehow (as an infant) known what the consequences - the eternal consequences- would be? Why am I nothing but flesh rolling around in my own blood to a God who says He loves me, but remains so maddeningly silent to my cries and prayers to Him? I guess judgment has already been pronounced against me by reason of that which I had nothing to do with other than being born. Sorry, God. I didn't mean to be born. It was an accident. Nd

This may be something that Pastor John is assuming, but he shouldn't assume. The very first step one should do if there is no feeling when reading scripture is to pray and ask God. We can only understand God's word with the help of the Spirit anyway. This is a very obvious first step and I'm surprised Pastor John didn't begin there. Many atheists can read the word and only see words and then ridicule them. It's the Spirit that makes them alive. There are times too when believers hit dry patches (I've been there) but I know it's only a dry patch as I have experienced God's word alive in the past while reading. I know that persevering prayer and patience, maybe a fast will renew and refresh me. Atheists or new believers wouldn't have that experience. So humbly praying to God to ask him to open your heart to his word is step number one. Jesus promised that God would be glad to offer his Spirit to those who ask him. (Luke 11:13)
