Yes, the LORD Jesus paid it all. All we have to do is to accept His gift, to repent (to turn from our wicked ways) to trust or receive/accept Him as our LORD and Savior, for by faith alone can save us. (Eph. 2:8-9, Romans 10:9, John 1:12)

@@wisevirgin3405 God's glory is displayed when a SAVED person honors God by enjoying salvation. But that is not all; He is also glorified and when an UNSAVED person rejects God, and by such a horrible rebellion against his Maker, is cast in to Hell forever. All creation will display the glory of God be receiving or rejecting Him and everyone will publically see the result. So God's purposes are fulfilled no matter what humans do. See 2 Thes 1 :5-10

Piper is slightly off 2:33. We do "add glory" to God. Piper is solid on so many things, but he is dancing around the concept of glory and not fully grasping its simplicity. Glory is not the excellence of God, but the display of God's excellence. So glory is not a set thing that God has apart from His creation, but rather the fame and honor that God receives from His creation as His creation comes to recognize and enjoy the wonderfulness of Who He Is. Maybe this analogy helps: The GPD is not a set amount of money in a country, but the flow of money. The GDP increases every time the same dollar changes hands. Or like a KZbin video's fame - it is not the excellence of the video but rather how many views and thumbs-up it gets. So God's glory is not His greatness, but when His greatness is made known. Every time we tell someone about the greatness of God, it gives Him glory.
@neveseven7344 жыл бұрын
Dan Ball I understand the semantics of your definition as it pertains to finite human values. However, we cannot "add glory" to God in the sense that it is not ours to"give." 1 Corinthians 4:7b Tells us, "What do you have that God hasn’t given you? And if everything you have is from God, why boast as though it were not a gift?" Just like when we give God our tithes, we are merely giving back to Him what He already possesses. We are not owners of anything, therefore we cannot give to Him what we do not have, and what He already owns. Including our next breath or heartbeat for that matter. We can only be stewards of what God has freely given to us by His grace. For example, the glory that has been revealed to us in the face of Christ Jesus is a gift, along with our faith, the ability to speak and to recognize that Glory, etc etc, because every good and perfect gift comes from above, namely it originates with God. Therefore we can reflect God's glory but we cannot "add to it." That is the nature of infinity, which God is.
@ngdavid39254 жыл бұрын
Dan Ball Creation cannot 'add glory' to GOD. Since no flesh should glory in HIS PRESENCE, what glory, then can be added to HIM from us. Creation and Mankind are to REFLECT HIS GLORY. We are like a MIRROR before HIM reflecting HIS OWN IMAGE in us. The IMAGE can be equal to the REAL PERSON, but cannot be better, and we most definitely fall short of the exact reflection of HIS GLORY.
@danball44104 жыл бұрын
@@ngdavid3925 To glory in His presence is to try and make yourself famous when we should be directing peoples attention to the Lord. The scriptures says over and over to "give God glory." Matthew 5:16 "In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." David, I think as soon as we understand this truth, we stop trying to look good, and instead live with constant gratitude ourselves and set the goal of our life to be pointing people to the greatness of God. This is the same an fully enjoying the Lord and helping others enjoy Him also. 2 Corinthians 4:15 For it is all for your sake, so that as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God.
@maxaplin42044 жыл бұрын
You say that glory is not the excellence of God, but the display of God's excellence. That's an interesting idea. But what biblical passages would you use to support this idea? Doesn't the Bible speak of God revealing his glory, showing his glory, etc., where the phraseology seems most naturally to suggest something already existing in God?
@danball44104 жыл бұрын
@@maxaplin4204 It is the definition of the word glory. It is a great study to look at the OT and NT root words, which is too much to list here, but the concepts behind it are weight, brightness, light, ornament, etc that are about the display of one's excellence. "Solomon in all his glory" refers to the court and decorations and servants that Solomon had to "show off" or "make known" or "display" of his wealth and excellence to the queen of Sheba. Glory and honor are sister thoughts and words. The passages are everywhere. Maybe this one is fundamental: "Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." As some in this string are trying point out, we cannot add greatness to God. So how can our actions be for His glory? It is by making ourselves mirrors to reflect His greatness back to Him and as mirrors who live like Him, from His strength, we can also reflect His light to others.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls. Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into. And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear: Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God. Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. The sorrows of death compassed me, and the pains of hell gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow. Then called I upon the name of the Lord ; O Lord , I beseech thee, deliver my soul. Gracious is the Lord , and righteous; yea, our God is merciful. The Lord preserveth the simple: I was brought low, and he helped me. Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the Lord hath dealt bountifully with thee. For thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling. It is our goal to glorify God, and it is God's goal to glorify himself. But this can't be God's single, supreme goal that all his actions are subsumed under. For example, it is surely wrong to think that when Jesus died on the cross, his highest purpose was to gain glory for himself. If we were to say that, then the wonder of the cross would surely be lost. The cross is so amazing because Jesus died for US to benefit US FOR OUR OWN SAKES. He gains glory through the cross, and rightly so, but surely his highest purpose in the cross was to benefit us, not to gain glory for himself. Thinking about love leads us to the same conclusion. If person A acts in true, biblical love towards person B, then A's biggest motivation in the act is a desire for the well-being of B. And surely the same is true of God. When he acts in love towards us, surely his biggest motivation is a desire for our well-being. If God were to do things for us as a means towards the supreme goal of gaining glory for himself, surely that would not be love. But God does love us, so surely it is a mistake to say that God's highest single goal in doing things for us is to gain glory for himself.
