I love that Piper mentioned that the spirit bearing witness is not a VOICE in your head telling you something but rather a changed life that bears fruit as evidence. So many people have told me that they knew they were saved because they heard God's voice in their head telling them he loves them & immediately after they tell me that I quickly respond with "what's your favorite verse in the Bible"..."well uh, you know, I let my pastor handle all those things, I just listen to Jesus in my heart"..exactly, lost...
