The fact that repentance and a turning away from "the" lifestyle and all sexual sins outlined in Leviticus 18 and others remains. The Lord is being patient with us and is giving us time to choose him and to walk with the Holy Spirit who does indeed have the power to let us overcome our deviances.

In Leviticus 18 it speaks of sex during menstruation being forbidden. Does that still count as a sin or are we free to ignore that as it does not suit us?
@mrwebmanager7 жыл бұрын
Hello, are you married? My wife's menstrual days are now behind, but while it was going on, she would be down for maybe a day or two and would not have the energy to have intimate relations. Generally speaking, the female body is going through a lot and needs rest & recuperation. It is only an act of love towards her not to approach her during her period. The things outlined in Lv. 18 is God's way of saying "don't hurt yourself or your neighbor, especially your wife." He made it a law for the JEWS as a special blessing so that they could stay healthy and light of all that was going on around them. And also because He knew people had a rebellious nature and needed the rod. What do you think?
@davidkennedy62517 жыл бұрын
You may be right. I have no experience whatsoever with women and their sexual needs. All I know is that fundamentalist hypocrites insist on Leviticus 18 - the Holiness Code - being followed to the letter but are happy to ignore this command. It is inconsistent, David

A number of years ago America's foremost Christian evangelist Billy Graham was interviewed by Hugh Downs on the current affairs program 20/20. Barbara Walters used to be on it. Hugh wanted to ask Billy about the pressing issues of the day. Abortion, homosexuality, etc. So He asked Mr. Graham is homosexuality a sin? - Billy Graham responded, "Well I would say it is - it is No worse than anything else". (I will add fornication, adultery, etc.) Mr. Downs then asked him - if your child came to you and said they were "gay" would you dis - own them? To which Mr. Graham said - No I would probably Love them More. I do not believe in labels to begin with, but sometimes we use a word - "gay" to describe what we are discussing. My former neighbour when I mentioned this - she said it was Nice Billy would Love them more - but felt that was because he thought they needed to be "fixed". Better to have a compassionate response than what has been displayed by some evangelists, ministers in the past. "Love thy Neighbour", "Do Unto Others, what You Would Have Done to You", "Thou Shall Not Judge", "Judge Not Lest You Be Judged ". "Thou Shall Not Kill", Etc. In the Bible - 11 Samuel 2 Verse 26 - "I am distressed for thee, my brother Jonathan: very pleasant hast thou been unto me: thy love to me was wonderful passing the love of women. 1 Samuel 18 Verse 1 - "The soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Johnathan loved him as his own soul." Verse 3 "Then Jonathan and David made a covenant" - 1 Samuel 21 - "David bowed himself 3 times and they kissed one another, and wept one with another, until David exceeded". Lets remember David had a number of wives (Something most people in the western world do not do today) and yet was held in High Esteem in God's eyes. So regardless of Peoples opinions, thoughts, feelings, and interpretations - has not "Mainstream" Christianity maintained that having an inclination, was not a sin - just do not act on it. We do not see people practicing that - what you do see is people making assumptions, judging, because someone does not meet some "macho"/feminine cultural stereotype - that they are "gay" - name calling in the school yard, because someone is sensitive, has different interests, etc. Wow Human Beings are Messesd Up! A result of the Fall in the Garden Of Eden - if we are going to believe the Bible!

This is what Christians believe about the Bible: If God commaned something unethical, it doesn't apply to them in the new covenant. If God commanded something "ethical", then it applies to them in the new covenant. In brief, Christians will always cherry pick passages. I'm Christian btw.

Scripture does not distinguish categories of laws. The entire mosaic law has been annulled Eph 2.15. "Written code" is not how we obey God Rom 7.6. We obey God by the fruit of the spirit, developing a character that imitates Christ's self-sacrificial love, against which there is no law Gal 5. love satisfies ALL God's commands Rom 13.9. BTW that means that a same-secs relationship characterized by mutual respect, kindness, faithfulness, sincerity and so on is loving, and thus according to scripture obeys God.

The Law indeed has some difficult passages which need addressing and so will I do. The Law was presented to the recently taken out of slavery Israelites, whom might I add, were not the greatest of followers or the most faithful (for example in exodus 32:1-6, in which, after Moses left for just a few days, they Immediately turned to worshipping random idols and other gods after seeing the literal Sea being split in half). Had God given a perfect Law, what would they have done? Would they have accepted it and kept it? No, Israel struggled and defiled the Law even when it was shifted to fit to what they could accomplish with their hard hearts, as shown all over the OT, for example in Judges. The reason stoning, such a harsh punishment is employed, is because they had Just gotten out of Egypt, the same society that had the Pharaoh's wife be killed if he ever died and killed slaves, which Israelites were, for the Slightest of things. Had God given them correct punishment, they would not have taken the Law seriously and they would definitely not keep it. The Law is also not perfect, outside of its punishment, when it comes to the actual Law, for example with allowing "slavery" or more accurately debt-paying servitude which that itself isn't great either since until the servant payed his debt, he was as property, even if he was to be treated humanly, as we see with Laws such as exodus 21:26, or verses such as 21:20, though both of them imperfect, because of the hard heartness of Isreal. These things are shown, both from the overall tone of God and the way Israel is portrayed all over the OT but also explicitly stated in Matthew 19:7-8, wherein, Jesus, after being questioned about divorce, points out that the only reason Moses and God allowed for it was because of the stubbornness and hardness in heart of Isreal. That it was not meant to be so morally, for what God has put together in the holy bond of marriage is not to be torn apart by man Unless a good reason is given such as sexual immorality in the marriage (I.e. if the man or woman abuses each other and forcing them to have intercourse, if one cheats on the other etc etc.). It is also shown in Numbers 27:1-11, wherein it is deliberately shown in action, with Isreal essentially demanding a king and though God states that it is not right and that they have disgraced him in this way, he still allows it due to Isreal's stubbornness, so that they can at least follow the Law and God under a human king. The Law was made up of three parts;The 10 commandments (moral Law), the ritual law (sacrifices and such for the washing of sin) and the 'government' law. The only perfect part of the Law are indeed the 10 commandments.

I believe that the punishment of the law apply but only to true God-led states(only the state of ANCIENT Israel has ever truly followed God),and the only change the messiah brought to the punishments of the law is that if people confess faith in the messiah and repent they get a second chance (as with the example of the adulteress who the messiah saved from stoning by the pharisees),notice how in the example of the adulteress in the end he told her "sin no more",meaning if she had sinned more she should have been rightly punished, that's why I only believe in only a second chance ON THIS SUBJECT on other subjects I believe as the messiah said that we should forgive 77x7 times.

If theyre gay, in our 'church', and refuse to repent of those sins we are to: John 7:24 24 Stop judging by outward appearances, and start judging justly 1 Corinthians 5:11-13 11 But now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people. 12 What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? 13 God will judge those outside. “Expel the wicked person from among you." 2 John 9-11 9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. 10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: 11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds. Titus 1:9-13 9 He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it. 10 For there are many rebellious people, full of meaningless talk and deception, especially those of the circumcision group. 11 They must be silenced, because they are disrupting whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach-and that for the sake of dishonest gain. 12 One of Crete’s own prophets has said it: “Cretans are always liars, evil brutes, lazy gluttons.” 13 This saying is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, so that they will be sound in the faith Timothy 5:20 20 As for those who persist in sin, rebuke them in the presence of all, so that the rest may stand in fear. Romans 16:17-18 17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. 18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple. Acts 20:28-30 28 Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood. 29 I know that after I leave, wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. 30 Even from your own number, men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. 2 Timothy 4:2-4 2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables

Get the led out: Don’t forget that the one man who holds true over anyone that followed or continues to follow him today was Jesus and he did pursue the sick and the broken. The sinful and the proud. I’m not saying that we should surround ourselves with sinners and be content. But in this world you will face those who are lost, who know not what they do. They need to be aware that we walk by faith and not by sight. The moment you judge another man for his sin, is the moment you will be judged for you’re sin as well-for no man is perfect. We all sin. Therefore love one another as Christ Jesus loves as well as those we desire to persecute.
@WolfSpectre19935 жыл бұрын
This could've been answered very simply because in 1 Corinthians 13:9-10 it states "For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away." With this in mind, Leviticus 20:13 should be compared with Romans 6:23 keeping in mind Isaiah 33:22. In basic summary, no Christian should stone a gay person because the wages of sin is death. That death is both spiritual and physical separation from God knowing He is the lawgiver, king, and judge. Yet to further add Christ also said, "Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye." Why? "Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality. Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not. Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits. Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good." (Romans 12:10-21) How? "Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." (Matthew 22:37-40) "Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets." (Matthew 7:12) "My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment; and ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool: are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts? Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him? But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats? Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called? If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well: but if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors. For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all." (James 2:1-10) respect of persons = partiality; God doesn't play favorites

Curt hi it is obvious to two groups of people (a) those who don't think much about what they are reading in the Bible and (b) those who pick and choose verses to suit themselves. It seems that texts on homosexuality are universal yet a prohibition on having sex during menstruation (just three verses away) was only for the people of Israel four thousand years ago. Hypocrisy. The texts on incest still apply but not the ban on lending money at interest. Hypocrisy. The ban on elders having tattoos is upheld but still more verses are ignored. Hypocrisy.

Curt Christiansen You are reading things into the Bible to suit yourself. The whole of Leviticus is about keeping the people of Israel SEPARATE. Most of what it says is specific to time and place. But it seems we have to take some verses strictly yet we can freely ignore adjacent verses. What is obvious there is the hypocrisy - I can see that and that is what is going on. David

Jimmy B. I do appreciate you taking time and trouble to write down an account but I still have questions and some of your points seem wrong to me. Am I right in thinking that the New Covenant started with Jesus' resurrection rather than with his birth. So the Gospels still lie in the Old Covenant, right? I agree with much you say about the fulfilment of the Law. You express that well. I notice that Paul's letters dominate your theology and I would ask that you be wary of that - it's a classic sign of fundamentalism to take Paul literally but take Jesus figuratively. So tattoos are now OK? Many Christians would disagree with you on that. The 10 Commandments - I am sure that you are at Church like me every Sunday - but do you observe that day of the week by doing nothing - no work, no shopping etc. The Sermon on the Mount is largely ignored in Christian Churches as it is felt that Jesus set impossible standards which we have no chance of attaining. I am still unclear - the prohibition of male to male sexual contact - still in force or not? the ban on couples having sex during the woman's menstruation (3 verses away from the above verse) - still in force or not? the ban on lending money at interest - still in force or not? Regards, DAVID
@davidkennedy62517 жыл бұрын
You have posted a lot for me to think on here. You must both think and type fast. Jesus and Paul do teach different things. On wealth and possessions Jesus is far more radical than is Paul. Jesus tells the rich young man to sell all he has and give the money to the poor and he speaks in the Sermon on the Mount about not taking a wage and living by faith 'Do not worry'. In the parable of Dives and Lazarus, the rich man goes to hell for his callous indifference to need; Matthew 25:31-46 makes the same point. Jesus talks about the camel through the eye of a needle and about worshipping riches in Heaven not Earth. He wants us to get as far from materialism as we can. Paul says we should be content whether we are poor or rich and the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. So in 21st century UK and USA we ignore Jesus' teaching on this - he could have saved his breath for all the notice we take of him - and we cling to Paul's teaching saying 'I know I am rich but I am content and I don't love money. Jesus and Paul also differ on homosexuality. Jesus says nothing directly - it does not seem a big issue to him. But Paul sees it as a serious sin and as a major issue. I find Romans 1 very hard to read but there is no denying his anger. The Gospels are a transition stage - very well reasoned. I have learned something profound tonight. The 'ask Pastor John' videos are hit and miss = sometimes wise, other times, well, not so wise! . Bestiality is prohibited only in the OT - no mention of it in the New. Is that OK now? I still don't understand why we follow the Law on male homosexual behaviour, incest, bestiality, loving your neighbour but we don't on tattoos, usury, sex during menstruation, Jubilee social justice etc. It is picking and choosing however you say it. The question is whether the picking and choosing is on consistent Biblical principles or is it just to suit us? I know what my experience is. "Now, therefore, why are you putting God to the test by placing a yoke on the neck of the disciples that neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear?" That sounds a bit like the traditional understanding of the Christian life for a homosexual person - lifelong celibacy. It's grim, desperate, depressing, isolating, lonely, tedious, repressive - unbearable or as near to unbearable as you can get. Blessings, David

I see a lot of people who want to interpret and reinterpret the scriptures to suit their earthly desires. The coming and death of Jesus did not abolish sin as far as I can tell, that is my clear opinion. To know Jesus and to love Jesus and to strive to be like him leaves no room to just ignore Gods law and say it is totally obsolete and abolished now, I can go do whatever I want that makes me feel good. It is to to show us nobody can live under such harsh laws and that God understands and has mercy. He is giving us chance after chance after chance to come to him. You can't expect to pick and choose what is and what isn't an abomination, as far as I am told it is an abomination and he will deal with it. You can only expect that God loves you enough to not put you to death immediately for your sins that he will give you a little more time to figure out how repulsive the sin is to him. He never said, awe screw it just do whatever I changed my mind about what is good and what is bad. At least to the best of my knowledge. If you can clearly show me evidence in full context, then I might just subscribe to this point of view. No, we are not to kill homosexuals, it is up to God to decide their punishment but I am not seeing ANYWHERE that he is now just cool with it and you can just waltz up to heavens gate wearing a tu tu and lipstick and expect him to open the door. I have a lot of friends and family that have chosen homosexuality and I don't want to see them killed I still love and cherish them therefore I pray for them, and keep fighting Satan wherever I see him. You can show them the error of their ways and stand by their side but be careful condoning stuff that you have no right to condone. At the same time be careful not to condemn things you have no right to condemn. We are all on this ride together and we are all stained with sin , when you recognize your sin don't look to find scripture to justify your sin, you already know. It is imprinted on your heart and the fact that you are digging to justify it should make it clear you have an inherent knowledge of truth and sometimes you just don't like the rules cause it is not thrilling. If you really need an adrenaline rush to feel the thrill then ride a roller coaster or something but don't be deceived and worst of all don't be your own deceiver.

the reason for the clear warning in any of God s 4 books are for the people to think on how severe the punishment of the hell fire can be if they insist on the big sins so they may dont commit it. you have to accept that act is a sin in the eyes of God so they have to repent. Im only here to read comments on how people are realy good on hiding the truth on the homosexuality matter. you seem to understand this. because we are not judgers the very first rule of God is to obey the laws of the country you live in. but you have to know the sins. but people close their eyes to the warnings.even the things Jesus said from his blessed lips.they love to interpret it to something else. I also came across lot of christian think Jesus died for all of their sins majority of you think that way. But I asked priests if God was so loving and caring why did he destroyed people before us for their sins. the same sins are so normal right now. like homosexuality. loan on interest. sex without mariage. İs God bipolar to destroy people then let people kill his son or prophet to wash the sins of people that are living right now.despite he is the only divine creator a being outside of time the all knowing. I also asked why the first 300 years christianity did not had the consept of trinity. who are the heretics are now the early christians or now. they believed Jesus was messiah and prophet and what about the christians rushed to the arabian peninsula when they heard of last prophet is now has the last testament. they knew it from scriptures. what are the scriptures they are talking about. I ll not trust people interpret words of their savior despite its cleary there for everyone. and not even question the first 300 years of christianity when they were beliving Jesus to be prophet. gospel is hogwash watered down with how God loves everyone. that is not true. he destroyed people before us to know how severe the punishment is and to be sign for the mankind. and you know that.Quran has scientific signs no human kind knew look at how god describes human embryo in quran 6. century man could knew this? the true stories of the prophets look at prophets in quran vs bible, and the antichrist how will he emerge how can we know that this mans is the falsemessiah is thought is islam . The question in this video is a good illustration of the fundamental misunderstanding of the Bible that many (most) people have. And sometimes anti-Christ cherry picks certain topics in an attempt to cast God with negative stereotypes. The Bible is written in two sections, the Old Contract and the New Contract (Old Testament and New Testament). Under the Old Contract people were under the law - the penalty for breaking some of those laws was death (similar to what many countries have today for murderers). Putting people to death in the Old Contract times was a portrayal of what was required of a person that did not have God’s grace (grace = unmerited, unearned favor). But under the New Contract that was put in place when Jesus the Christ died, the contract states that if a person believes in Jesus the Christ and the plan of redemption that He carried out, then that person won’t be condemned to hell - and under the New Contract there is no concept of the Church/believers putting people to death for any sin. Every human that has ever walked the face of the earth (other than Jesus) has been/is a sinner. Every one of us must acknowledge that sin and turn from it (repent). It doesn’t matter if the sin feels natural or not. Call out to God and ask for His forgiveness - this life is a one shot deal - there are no do overs - once you lie down and take your last breath your destiny is sealed so a wise person does not put off seeking God.

If you study Islam you will notice it does have in common slavery and killing gays just like the Bible but there is no child murder. The prophet Muhammad went as far as saying to treat your slaves like brothers by feeding them clothing them and one of the best deeds a man can do is to free a slave. There are dozens of hadiths that say that freeing slaves is an expiation to sins. The reason why slavery exists is to force hostile populations to live side by side with muslims and see how they act, pray etc. Also an explanation I have found is that some people are slaves as God wants to test them. Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “They are your brothers whom Allah has put under your authority, so if Allah has put a person’s brother under his authority, let him feed him from what he eats and clothe him from what he wears, and let him not overburden him with work, and if he does overburden him with work, then let him help him.” Narrated by al-Bukhari (6050)

So why do we need someone else to tell us how we are to interpret the Bible’s position on any topic? And why, globally, are there are over 45,000 different Christian denominations (according to the Center for the Study of Global Christianity, 2019), all with conflicting interpretations and divided on just about every major social and political issue, and historically killing one another over these differences? If that law as well as the rest of the laws lasted only for a time, then the Bible gives no basis for objective moral values. The pastor does some hand waving with his analogy, but the problem still remains. For example, if one is stoned in ancient times for working on a Saturday, but currently one is not stoned for working on a Saturday, that is an example of an "absolute moral truth" not being absolute at all. Laws that change overtime are neither absolute nor sensible.
@SteveTheWizard5 жыл бұрын
Well if the one who makes the law decides to change it, then the law can change. The law is not the center focus of the Bible, but the maker of the law is. Only Jesus has the authority to redefine the law because he is God and he proves that through his life and work in the fulfillment of prophecies.
@redfordwilson50425 жыл бұрын
@@SteveTheWizard Why can't you understand? If moral truths change overtime, they are not absolute and therefore not objective. If God says: "Stone all the adulterers!" in ancient Israel, and then later Jesus says: "No, let the one who is without sin cast the first stone! (in other words, don't stone her at all)", that is not an objective law. The apologetic of claiming Jesus fulfills the law may work for the sacrificial system, but when God decides to do a full u-turn on quite a few things in the new testament, that simply shows relative morality.
@SteveTheWizard5 жыл бұрын
@@redfordwilson5042 How we are commanded to interact with a moral law is not the definition of the moral law. Just because we no longer kill adulterers does not mean adultery is no longer wrong. The morality hasn't changed, simply the punishment for the crime has changed. There always has been an objective moral law that hasn't changed. Even before it was revealed to humanity sin was still sin, but the proper punishment (earthly or heavenly) for those sins has changed as God is the ultimate judge of those things. He can change the punishment without changing the law and still have an unchanging moral law.

Contemporan Poet exactly it does not make sense, but people have to understand that the Bible has been written and re-written hundreds of times into several languages. Historically, the Bible was also compiled years after it was written. The scrolls that make up the Bible were scattered around the world and found in their original language years later, therefore there are bound to be some inconsistencies in the book that gave rise to a whole religion. Personally, I can’t blindly follow whatever the Bible or any religion entirely says because there is no guarantee of everything being God’s word. The Ten Commandments and the Book of David seem to be the texts with most integrity. To be honest, I believe that following the Ten Commandments is probably the best guide to living life. If you take life at it’s core people are bound to make mistakes, but it doesn’t mean that because you do something sinful in life that you becomes bad person forever. I, personally, do not think being queer is a sin and I don’t know whether God thinks of homosexuality as a sin or not only God knows. I do know, however that people suffer tremendously with being queer for many reasons. Furthermore, regardless of who people love, I know that what matters the most is the goodness found within people.

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, completely changed how God deals with sin - note, not God's opinion or hatred of the act of homosexuality which never will change. The Son has revealed God the Father as a God of Love, who is willing to save all who come unto God by Christ Jesus. All religious myths are narrow minded. There isn't anything broadminded about believing that your own soul is holy, while other souls are evil, or that your own soul is sin-free, while other souls are loaded with sin. Only human animals suffer from such grandiose delusions. If humans went extinct, other forms of life would carry on suffering, as they did before humans and their religious mythologies ever polluted planet earth. The religious word "sin" hurts many humans. If we replaced the religious word "sin," with the non-religious word "behavior," it would keep us grounded. Humans would no longer believe that a god existed that was spying and judging their every move and thought. I suggest that we should be taught as children that we are whole, just as we are, and that, concerning how we treat others, the onus is on us.

Ask the police and the courts. They are the ones in place to execute criminals. If they don't see homosexuality as a crime now then there is nothing you can do. You don't even understand what a law is. You think they were just vigilante killers running around? It specifically says there must be two or three consistent witnesses to prove a crime and the executions were public after the judge pronounced the sentence, not private killing parties. If the Bible became law, then you would deliver those homosexuals to the judges. But if it was found that you don't have any evidence of their act and you are the only accuser then YOU would yourself be executed as a false accuser in God's law. But you can't even read the whole chapter and compare verses. Any lawyer and judge does that with government law, they don't just take one law and use only that. Laws are understood in relation to other laws. Your little joke just shows how dumb you are.

No God does not change. When people made animal sacrifices in order to wash away their sins, God looked forward in time to the blood of Jesus. The animals never really did anything they were only an arrow pointing to things to come. The old testimate was imperfect because it was looking forward to Jesus, and since Jesus had not yet come some things were different. The law was given to us to show that we needed a saviour. It was impossible to follow all the commands, and God knew this. He was showing his people that they needed something else. Jesus came and brought the perfect system meaning that many aspects of the old are unneeded. Now we only follow laws that are repeated in the new testament. The jews do not believe Jesus was the messiah therefore they missed the whole point of the law and they still follow old testament commands. So should the 10 Commandments be ignored then since it’s in the Old Testament?
@MusicalRaichu Жыл бұрын
The 10 commandments are part of Mosaic law which has been annulled Eph 2.15. They're good in general, but have you read the fine print? There's aspects that we consider immoral today. Christ's command is to love one another. If we do that, if we actually care about people, we'll end up obeying the 10 commandments anyway. But there will be RARE occasions where loving one another means we might have to disobey them.
@stmp41607 ай бұрын
No, people say that we shouldn't follow the 10 commandments because we are under a new covenant (even if Jesus Literally stated that the Law is not abolished, so that is basically claiming Christ is a liar) but when asked what is a man to do to be righteous, he literally quoted the 10 commandments. Then when asked about the most important commandment he said that to love God and your neighbour is the basis of the Law, which is true, the first 5 commandments are about loving God and the other about loving your neighbour.
@nicholas33546 жыл бұрын
Proverbs 3, 1-2 "My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life and peace shall they add to thee" It's not so that Jesus declared all food clean in Mark 7. He was addressing hand washing and dish washing as spiritual rituals, and He was speaking of spiritual meats and spiritual purging as indicated by the list of sins that come out and defile a man. Foods such as pork, shellfish, and unscaled fish are not food, they are toxic to the human body. He wants long life for you, love His law and heed His dietary instructions. Much Love in Truth in Christ Jesus bretheren.

Romiyim (Romans) 14:6 TS2009 bible.com/bible/316/rom.14.6.TS2009 For the reign of Elohim is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Set-apart Spirit. For he who is serving Messiah in these matters is well-pleasing to Elohim and approved by men. So, then, let us pursue the matters of peace and the matters for building up one another. Do not destroy the work of Elohim for the sake of food. All indeed are clean, but evil to that man who eats so as to cause stumbling. All attempts are futile, for God already has the victory, but they do affect the present world. Your consciousness is in the heavenlies, the 4th dimension, so if you are in right spirit with God your consciousness is protected, so you will be able to tell when the physical world, the 3rd dimension, shifts because of the past being altered. I totally disagree with this., First, when the guy says “ this is really easy to answer” this is very unnecessary to even say( just answer the question if you really feel that way) he proceeds to use an analogy to answer a question that he claims is so easy to answer? Usually when you use an analogy is because the answer is complex. Not only that, his example in my opinion destroys his belief foundation and I’ll tell you why. The words in the bible are supposed to be GOD’s words, right???? In his example he says if a book was written to a certain audience or in an era, doesn’t this make the case that this is in fact proof that the bible was solely written by humans. Because if is truly the words of GOD it should have stood the test of time, but if it was someone like me or you, you didn’t know that 1500/5000 years later the norms were going to change. So yes, this is one big issue here that cannot be explained. I’m an atheist, but I grew up in a church setting tyoe family, alter boy, communion, confirmation and a bunch of stuff( catholic) I did almost everything, I know about the subject. The biggest issue for religion as a whole is that they point out obvious facts, they pounced at it, but when the bible clearly states, “ homosexuality is an abomination” they want to sugar coat it and somehow say it means love, or it doesn’t really mean that, or that some things only GOD can explain. This is totally ridiculous, we cannot have a discussion when people are altering facts that doesn’t help Their narrative. Growing up I used to pray to GOD, I used to talk to him, but I never heard him, I never saw a clear sign. I was excited to experience the holy ghost, I didn’t feel anything! I’m not one to pretend. I respect people’s opinions and they can do whatever they desire, in fact I believe the bible is a book written for the greater good of humanity in that ERA, when society norms were vastly different from current norms, but to say is the words of GOD, and our maker, I’m sorry all evidence doesn’t support it. If you’re a religious person, you have to die on that hill, you cannot change facts or try to sugar coated it. To wrap this up I’ll say that most of the book is decent and I’ll say you can take a lot of good morals from it, but it clearly shows the bible was written solely my humans with no help of a greater being, because of the flaws, contradictions, and human’s inability to see into the future.

Not really, as Chirst said, he came to fulfil the Law not to abolish it. The covenant is done, yes but the moral side of the Law cannot be done away with, objective morality does not change. Well essentially, you have to listen to the morals, not the ritual Law, which Jesus ended by being the eternal sacrifice or the government Law. The Law was made up of three parts;The 10 commandments and general moral instructions (moral Law), the ritual law (sacrifices and such for the washing of sin) and the 'government' law. The only perfect part of the Law is the moral Law.

Let us grant you that this law (e.g., stoning homosexuals) is context and time dependent in dealing with the people of God before Christ, it doesn't change the fact that this law commanded the people of God to stone homosexuals solely on the basis of homosexuality: and this was supposedly commanded by God. This would mean homosexuals, even if they meant no harm, were once supposedly commanded by God to be killed. It doesn't matter if they wished they weren't homosexuality, kept it secret, etc. Their sexuality alone was a premise for their death. I beg anyone reading this to reconsider the laws of the Old Testament as largely being the creation of men. After all, if I am correct, God only explicitly gave the 10 commandments and perhaps a select other laws in the Old Testament. I can't recall him giving every single one of these laws. However, if you know of scriptural evidence that warrants you to take every Old Testament law as given by God, it doesn't matter if we are free under Christ, for it remains a fact that God commanded the death of people solely on the basis of their sexuality. Nothing more. Please show me an escape from this conclusion. I don't want to believe God is a monster (and most likely an imaginative creation of men).
@chrisman3057 жыл бұрын
Well, the book of the covenant was given to Moses on mount Sinaï from God Himself (Ex 20:19-21, 24:3-8). The laws in the book of Leviticus where spoken to Moses from God from the tabernakel (Lev 1:1), also in the case of the penalty's for homosexuality (Lev 20:1). And even the repetition of the law in Deuteronomy by Moses is confirmed by God by commanding him to sing a song to Israël so they dont forget the law (Deut 31:19). The whole law is even set besides the ark of the covenant (Deut 31:26). In the New Testament Jesus acknowledged the whole law as Gods revealed law (Math 5:18, 15:4) and also the apostles said that the whole Old Testament including the law was inspired by God (2 Tim 3:16). So if you want to believe the Bible, you got to believe that these laws are from God. I understand that these laws may come over as unjust and cruel, but thats where our understanding of Gods nature is crucial. Leviticus itself says that God is holy (Lev 19:2). When we understand that, than we understand why even the smallest sin deserves a eternity in hell, and why it is a just thing for God to say that homosexuality deserves the death penalty. It doesn't make God a monster, it makes Him a righteouss judge. If we think its cruel there is something wrong with our understanding of right and wrong, not with God. The law of God shows us how bad and awful sin is in Gods eyes. Luckily God is also a saviour and merciful so that we sinners can be saved and forgiven through faith in Jesus Christ, that would include homosexuals who would rightly deserve the death penalty (1Cor 6:9-11). I hope this is helpfull for you and that you may change your mind about Gods law. And that hopefully you can sing as the Psalmist sang: " O how I love your law !" (Psalm 119:97).

This is a fair point. To distill what you said in paragraphs: in essence, while Piper's response is correct, it is incomplete; it still begs the question and leaves the same elephant in the room that we began with. As a Christian myself, my answer to this problem is a variant of the "frame of reference" argument chrisman305 alludes to in his own comment. However, I'm curious to know if there is a more technical and more satisfactory truth out there to shape a more complete response to the gap in Piper's response.
@199NickYT7 жыл бұрын
I know this will probably not change your aversion to the concept, but a clarification has to be made. If a person saw themselves as attracted to the same sex, that was not grounds for being put to death. There is not one verse in the Old or New testament that even condemns same-sex *attraction*--in that being tempted is not something you can control or are accountable for. You are only accountable for your *actions* and how you respond to temptations, and so it is acts of sexual relations with the same sex that was grounds for being put to death, *not* the temptation to do so. It was not sexual identity that was grounds for being put to death, as your post implies; it was actually *acting on that temptation* and committing physical sexual sin that was grounds for being put to death.
@davidkennedy62517 жыл бұрын
Thanks for clarifying that. However I genuinely do not understand what you mean by 'If a person saw themselves as attracted to the same sex'. 'Saw themselves'? You know to whom you are attracted - it's not a mystery you have to look for. I emerged from puberty solely attracted to other men and that has not changed in the years since. I have never encountered a woman who has sexually attracted or aroused me, to this day. Whether I see myself as homosexual or not is irrelevant. I am homosexual in my sexual orientation and that will always be the case. 'LIfestyle' and 'identity' are fundamentalist weasel words, stuffed full with cant and hypocrisy. The other point to make - leading on from what you say - is that this is a sin unlike most others. We are pretty much all tempted towards anger, pride, gluttony, indifference to the poor, greed, selfishness. But 98% of people have no danger whatsoever of becoming involved in homosexual behaviour. For the remaining 2% of people, their enduring orientation is towards their own gender so they will be tempted frequently about this and it would be almost impossible for them not to act out these feelings at some point. The Law can seem cruel because it is. It was primitive. Lesbian sex is not an offence and it was OK for King Solomon to have 700 wives and 300 concubines as well as to marry girls of 11, 12 or 13. But any homosexual contact at all led to stoning. May God be praised that we are in the New Covenant.
@199NickYT7 жыл бұрын
Hi David Kennedy, I'll try to respond to every one of your points. First of all, I'm not making a statement on how obvious someone's attraction to their same sex is. My statement applies no matter how mysterious or how obvious the attraction is. (Aside: I had always assumed "identity" is a word used by people who believe same-sex acts are not sins, that since homosexuality is their *identity*, that being kept from fulfilling that identity is denying who they "truly are.") Second, regarding constant sexual temptations, I disagree that it is only something that 2% of the population will encounter. I would wager that the majority of people will encounter this kind of ongoing sexual temptation--yes, even heterosexual people. For married heterosexual people, for example, it doesn't matter how attracted they are to their spouse, unless they are married to the most attractive person of the opposite sex on the planet, they will be tempted every day by people they see and images on TV and online. To use your argument in this case would imply that adulterers really had no choice, they were simply following their innate identity to be with whom they were attracted to most--it was them following and fulfilling who they were by cheating on their spouse. The same goes for anyone who is unmarried being tempted to be sexual in any manner with a boyfriend/girlfriend/etc, heterosexual or not. (By the way, this is not limited to sexual sins.) "The Law is cruel and primitive." This is a subjective statement based on the idea that whom someone is sexually attracted to defines who they are as a person and denying them that denies them who they are. Christianity is opposed to this idea--a person's identity is based on God, on them being redeemed by Jesus, not on their sexual attraction. Not sure if you're saying Lesbian sex was "not an offense" in the Old Testament, but I can assure you that it was not allowed either. Sex was and is only allowed in marriage, so implying that lesbian sex is OK means you are implying there were Lesbian weddings in God-fearing Israel in the time of the Old Testament, something that is absolutely not true. As for Polygamy, the design has always been for one man and one woman, although Polygamy was allowed. There's a great article here on why it may have been allowed, but the main point is that the ideal is God's design, one man and one woman. www.gotquestions.org/polygamy.html And as for marrying young girls, I've never heard of that before. Can you give me a source that shows King Solomon married girls of that age? I want to end by saying that being sexual or intimate is not the end-all be-all of God's plan for people. If a couple decides to marry, that is good, but at the same time, there are several verses saying it's good for a man not to marry (and not to have all that marriage would bring, including sex and intimacy). Someone who does not marry or never has sex is not missing out--their sinful flesh may tug and pull at their heart telling them they are, but it's not true. A person can be completely platonic their whole lives and absolutely live a life wholly devoted to God, a life without "missing out" in some way. And in the end, we are not of this world; we are only passing through it and everything it brings that Heaven does not have (including sex and marriage). www.gotquestions.org/sex-heaven.html Disclaimer: I'm saying all of these things from a Christian perspective because that's the tone of the discussion--I'm defending the old Law (being used in its time that is not now) from a Christian and God-fearing perspective. Of course it doesn't make a lick of sense being viewed from an atheist or non-Christian point of view, so I couldn't dream of arguing this from that angle.
