I've had a Gen 'parry' my kunai once as Ibuki and I've seen Xian use this once, maybe twice in a set with Daigo to get through a fireball. I'd love to see somebody actually make more use of this though.

daRockReaper you need to focus-absorb on the first frame of focus, and cancel it into stance-change on the second~third frame. pretty impractical window, aside from maybe fireballs (in which case, you can focus-backdash instead)

It's only armored for one frame, so it's hard to parry anything even if you know the exact moment you're going to get hit.

So this video is not impractical, but actually useful cuz it it just showed how almost every pro player set ups, meaty cross ups, and guaranteed chip blocks or strings. Can be focused out of with Gen. So Gen doesn't have to respect anything then right?

AnguzBeef This stance change parry tech was discovered in 2009-2010. Do a search for "yeb gen parry" and you'll find a video or two of him explaining how it works.

AnguzBeef Yeah, he does. He showed it off on CrossCounter Asia back in late 2011 or 2012. Really simple use though, not advanced like desk showcased here.

nevrest a lot of Gen players already know about this kara focus into stance change ever since 2009. Ask the people who actually used Gen (Xian, Yeb, Jibbo, etc.) why they don't use it in actual matches. They will give you a better answer on when to use it and when not to use it.=) It's sad to see a lot of Desk "fans" thinking he can beat Xian though. Xian has won numerous tournaments while Desk has been making videos. There's a difference between those who make combo videos like ones posted in this channel and those who actually play competitively. A lot of players who make these combo videos for informational and entertainment purposes usually don't do too well in actual tournament play. I do know Desk played competitively back in the early days of EVO. I think he played CVS2.

It just with Gen, if you focus and then change stance it cancels the focus (it's a lot harder than it sounds)

Haha I was hoping for a recreation of Evo moment 37 as well. The parry recover is around 6 frames (1 frame focus, 5 frame stance change), so it would only work where there's more than 6 frames between hits (hence no parrying Ryu ultra)
