Hey desmowerx i just started my ducati 848 yesterday i was so happy thank you so much bro !! I took it apart all the way till i can see the transmission gears and put it back together . Somebody backed into it hard and it caused the crankcase to crack from where the kickstand attactches to the side of the motor. Bad design from ducati but i mean i guess they werent expecting you to get hit by a car lol.
@DesmoWerx Жыл бұрын
Wow, that's bad luck. The later cases are pretty strong as they are sand casted cases, so that must have been some hit.
@239seth Жыл бұрын
I have the same problem with my 848evo aswell they layed the bike over and cracked that weld under the crank case and stripped the bolts so I welded it back up but I need to re thread the bolts, thinking of buying a new crank case, but the bike made funny noise like a rod nock it was a cold morning I let the bike warm up and everything and boom out of no where it started to sound like that and when I put the bike in neutral it would die so I took it to the shop and hoping it won’t cost a arm and leg or else I’ll just fix what ever they say is wrong with the bike.
@bryansautoandmotorcyclerepairs7 ай бұрын
@@239seth dang i didnt want to weld mine because practically all the weight of the bike goes on that kick stand. But here i am today rebuilding the bike again because of a valve that has a crack hopefully i can get it fixed

Hi Nelly. Just revisiting your awesome videos. Thanks. If you see this comment, any chance you can give us the dimensions of the open box you build the engine on. Looks really good. Cheers
@DesmoWerx10 ай бұрын
Hi Martin, the internal dimensions of the box are 275mm long x 210mm wide x 120mm deep. If you work to the internal dimensions it does not matter on the thickness of timber used. I used decking timber to make mine with a sheet of 5mm ply on the base.

when you torque the flywheel nut to 330nm, how did you keep the flywheel from spinning?
@DesmoWerx8 ай бұрын
There is a Ducati specific flywheel tool that I use, mine is not OEM but rather a copy made by another company.
@kevinoneill9247 Жыл бұрын
Hey Nellie, Love your content. Ive done the gearshift springs on my MTS1200 2012 and just about to refit the Flywheel. The torque is 330nm. Can I ask what you used to hold the flywheel while tightening please? I have a gear jammer on order, but I spotted what looks like a punch being removed after torqueing and if there is a handy holding position to insert one to hold the flywheel, it might get me out of a bind here. Any help appreciated. Kev

When you say preloading the crankshaft by 0.3mm am I right in thinking you basically shim it 0.3mm too big and then as the engine casings nip together it applies the right amount of force to the crank shaft? And also how do you know which side of the crank to shim? Do you just split the shims equally either side or is there a particular was to build the shim stack?
@DesmoWerx2 жыл бұрын
HI Kyle, yes you add in 0.3mm of shims to get the preload on the crank bearings. If you are stripping the engine yourself you can measure the outgoing shims to see the bias of the shim loading between right and left (as sat on bike). Failing that I have done a video to show how to calculate the shims for your specific cases and bearings as fitted. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6SxiXV7irCqq8U More often than not the left hand side of the case with the larger shim due to the case being offset more for the crank centerline. 😊
@blitzerrrrrrr Жыл бұрын
How do you determine what shim to use for the two transmission shafts if you are starting from nothing?
@DesmoWerx11 ай бұрын
Go with the smallest first as there should always be float so better to be loose and tighten it up by using the larger shims. Ducati only make two sizes of each of the different gearbox shims.

The factory head bolt tool is a C shape that places the wrench directly above the fastener so it doesn’t increase or decrease the leverage arm. With the tool you’re using, wouldn’t you have to alter the torque spec now that you’re increasing the leverage arm? It looks like you try to mitigate this by holding the wrench 90 degrees from the end of the tool, but the length of the tool should be accounted for, no?
@DesmoWerx3 жыл бұрын
Hi Rob, holding the tool at 90 degrees negates the extra length, if I use it direct on I have to account for an 8% torque increase on my shorter torque wrench. I prefer using this tool over the c spanner.
