Oh what I would do to have an hour to talk to this genius man. He is one of the only people who I could understand why I am so much physical pain from psychological trauma. Swimming and diving has saved my life. Thank you for sharing this video

Any psychologist umderstands trauma very well, fimd one who specialises in it and fully commit to the therapy. If it doesnt work keep tryimg with another but never quit.My ex wife unfortunately wouldnt commit and destroyed the relationship repeatedly.Im a doctor myself and fully undertood her problems but I still couldnt reach her, the traumas were so early in life and repeated.

@@stevensawyer5924 So sorry, that you feelt the need to excuse yourself for your deafness. It's NOT your deafness that bothers anyone! It's the blinking captions that can trigger the nervous system of traumatized or very sentitive people . That doesn't mean, there is anything wrong with those who can't perceive sound. It's just different needs for diffrent people. I can understand that captions are indispensable if someone cannot percive the soud. And there is a solution that meets anybodys needs: no fixed captions in the video and everyone who needs or likes written text can read the transcript or use the settings button to make the subtitles available. All the best for you!

I don't know if there's a published list of providers, but the more I learned about trauma, the more I understood the different modalities to look for (like EMDR somatic processing, and internal family systems). Then I was able to look for therapists in my area that offered what I believed I needed. I found a trauma therapist, who practiced all three, who has made a big difference for me. Also, because I've learned as much as I have, I have a good foundation of psychoeducation. I understand what's going on so my therapy appointments are focused on actual treatment of the trauma not education and explaining. Just understanding, on our own, gets us on our own team and alleviates shame. If you're interested in this subject, some good resources that can be found on KZbin are: Peter Levine Stephen Porges Deb Dana Janina Fisher The Mindful Movement Tim Fletcher Gabor Maté

Yoga and mindfulness are Eastern religious practices practiced by Eastern cultures over thousands of years. They were not developed outside of a religious society. Dr.Van der Kolk does not mention this religious context. He.did not initiate Yoga and mindfulness as body mind practices. They have been practiced in different forms throughout the Eastern world over millenia. This includes the body mind religious practice of the Middle East of five times daily yoga mindful prayer called Salah of the Sunnis and Shia that he alludes to.This practice is preceded by a mindful washing five times a day before each Salah. As a scientist Dr.Van der Kolk is obliged to quote and reference the work of his predecessors and peers in science. This is a stringent practice in his profession. But he has appropriated mindful yoga practice without acknowledging that this comes from Eastern religious practices. He has selectively removed religion from mindful yoga which is cultural appropriation for the treatment of trauma. Did anyone give him permission to remove religion from the practices and then present this as science approved by him ? Yoga and mindfulness have always been practiced in a religious context in Eastern societies. Who did Dr.Van der Kolk consult from the East before he incorporated it as a scientific concept for trauma ? Dr.Van der Kolk refers to the killings of Shia by Sunnis. But Dr. Van der Kolk is of Dutch origin. He does not refer to the past massacres of Sunnis by the Dutch. This is a very skewed view on his part and not at all a robust scientific or academic presentation of facts regarding trauma. It's time now to talk factually about the trauma of European colonisation of the East and the whole world as Dr. Gabor Mate does. I hope Dr.Van der Kolk will acknowledge his own bias and talk in the future of the trauma of genocide and colonialism for all people of the world. In this he can join Dr. Gabor Mate who has recognised the trauma of all colonised and genocided people and societies by European countries.

@@SeekAiMe if you find the therapist that’s right for you, they do feel like a true friend. I have shared my traumas with my friends, and some of them really didn’t know how to respond. Some conversations were in validating, and some were validating, but never went deeply enough and healed that wound. Recovery from trauma is an internal job and it’s a lifelong job. I think finding the right therapist is a matter of a combination of finding the right therapy for your temperament, for your need, and the character of that person, as well as their personality. When I became my own manager of my emotional journey, I improved upon my learning and gradually was able to get the precise type of therapy that works best for me. Because only you intimately know who you are, what you feel, and by getting in tune with what you need inside, you can find the right journey to renew yourself.

@@TenTenJ feelings are always negative for many things for me, i just know for sure if you talk to a friend they can give therapy, instead of some person getting paid to talk to you. i understand you, but it is not a problem with what i am saying but a problem with friends in society... A friend can listen a friend can know advice a friend can understand and help... but if you dont have a real friend, then you need and only then does anyone need therapy. So if therapy is what you need it is only because you have no friend. even if you mislable the people you know as friends. friends should be closer and thus should be able to help you more, not less, than a stranger just because you are an individual. we are connected and much more similar internally than externally, and friends have raport and much more... But i get what you are saying, i just must disagree, and keep in mind i have no friends. And have had some like 15 years ago... but my point is if it works for you thats cool, i just wish you had better friends... I want everyone to be friends but i know thats a dream for you right now but i think it is possible for everyone to just be friends, and thus not need emplpoyers or therapists or doctors or anything but friends. idk... im very odd.
