Good stuff! I work the ramp and I’m saving up as much as possible to pay out of pocket for flight school. I only make $2800 working 200hrs per month, so the hours and figures mentioned are very motivating. Hopefully the hiring comes back strong by the time I hit my minimums.

I don't want to demotivate you but flight school can cost between $100k-150k from zero to flight instructor. You're better off building your credit and getting a loan. The worst thing is to run out of funds and not being able to continue school then you have to relearn again. Also I'd highly recommend Pilot Institute for learning everything you need to. That way when you get to school you're just focusing on flying since you know everything. Join a 141 school with all the ground knowledge and you can start working with less than 100 hrs assuming you pass everything

I would like to know how the process works for upgrading to another plane when in the airline industry. How would you be able to go from a FO of a 737 to a FO for a 777? If you were a CA of a 737, and upgrade to a 777, do you go back to being a FO or are you given training to remain as a CA?

Thanks for the great information! It’s been incredible! Would you mind expanding on how you would become 62/90 if you upgraded to Captain, instead of being 90/90? Also, could you compare the differences in Narrow to Wide body aircraft’s pay/schedule. What does the initial bid look like when first getting hired for aircraft type/base? Thanks!

If it’s anything like our seniority here in South Africa, then it’s based on start date at the company. If I accept captaincy before you but you had an earlier start date, then when you finally decide to upgrade, your start date puts you higher than me in seniority on the captains roster.

Great videos and explanations coming from a commercial airline pilot. I retired from AA after 30 years as an AMT and loved every minute of it not to mention making very good money. Anyway I've got a little question for you and would like your insight. Even though I don't know this man personally but I do know of him. He's only been a first officer for United for 3 months and yesterday they promoted him to Captain already. He had no prior experience at any other commercial airline but did work as a pilot for a small charter company. How in the world could this even be possible because you have to have a lot of flight time and put in a lot of years to make Captain. I realize there's a shortage of pilots but geez this is kinda scary I think.

Just looking for advice. Currently I am about halfway done to finishing my bachelors degree and am planning on going to ATP (or a local school and just flying a ton) to get through it asap. I’ve been hearing from pilots I’ve been in contact with that in the next 2 years the hiring should be pretty high again, which puts a lot of people in places of seniority. Knowing a bachelors degree isn’t technically required anymore, would it be advantageous for me to just stick with the path in currently on, or should I just send it through a flight school sooner than later to try and gain seniority sooner? I know there’s sooooo many variables that come in to play so I’m just looking to hear y’all’s thoughts on this haha

Since you say to get your hours fast because seniority is everything, would you be in favor of taking out $100k in loans to do that in ~ one year? Or would you rather save and only spend $60k but take ~ three years to get it done? I see a lot of hate towards bigger loans, but if you can get it done quicker and tackle the loan hard afterward, especially on a duel income like myself, I don't see an issue with it. Right?

Hi Garrett! Thank you for your videos, they are really motivating! I’m turning 38 soon, and since childhood, civil aviation has been my dream, which eventually became a hobby, as I went into the film industry and worked in film production for a long time. I recently moved to the U.S. and now have the opportunity to pursue a career as a pilot. But my age worries me-how risky is it to enter this industry at this age with the goal of eventually being hired by a major airline like AA as a First Officer? I also wonder if it’s even possible to grow into a captain, though I think it’s unlikely because, from what I’ve read on forums, younger candidates are usually preferred. What would you advise?

Should I go to a University and get a degree, or should I go to a fast track school like ATP? Would getting a degree in 4 years out weigh the speed of getting my ATPL, or since I already have my PPL would it be better to just get straight into it? What would be my down time from getting through school getting my 1500 hours, then getting hired? Thanks for any and all advice!

Wasting 4 years getting an expensive piece of paper that you dont plan to use would be a big mistake imo.
@aviatordiego4769Ай бұрын
I was in your shoes 2 years ago even though I’m 19. Im about to finish my cfi training and I just went head first. Had my ppl before I finished high school. My plan right now is to be a cfi until I can even get an ATPL. Im lucky enough to have a job which allows me to leave and come back whenever while offering flexibility on which specific days to work with only a 3 hour notice, while paying a decent wage. It’s tough to tell someone else to do the same because I put all my eggs in one basket, so if I were to lose my medical or anything were to happen I’d be at square 1. If I were in your shoes I’d still just go and finish training. I really dont recommend ATP however. Find yourself a local mom and pop flight school which you can then work for after you are a cfi. You can be a part time college student and a part time CFI as well. Or an FO while doing some online degree in business or whatever it is. If flying is your passion just go for it dude. Last thing you wanna do is waste 4 years to get a degree you won’t need, and still have to train and get your hours. Some degrees deduct 500 from those 1500 hours, but those 500 you can get easily in 3 months being a cfi. Not worth the trade off. Im all over the place I know, but in conclusion just follow your dreams dude. If flying is your thing and you can afford it go for it. Getting an online degree part time would probably be the most efficient and safe method, but then that can take away from your flight training. The worst thing that can happen is having to start off where you are now. You have everything to win and nothing to lose other than time. Time which you’ll spend chasing your dreams. Wishing nothing but the best for you and your aviation career! As hard as it gets don’t give up.

@Zeeks8692 ай бұрын
What does flying “premium” means ?
@Jetfuture737Ай бұрын
It means you are getting extra pay. Top airlines generally pay premium pay of 50%, 75%, 100% (double pay), and 125% extra pay. The premium pay trips are generally trips that leave very quickly and they don't have a reserve pilot available, or they are anticipating they will be short on that day. Generally premium pay trips are quite competitive and you either need to be REALLY senior to get them, or REALLY quick to pick them up (only if the trips leave in a short amount of time).
@ViperVideoАй бұрын
So you'd be 62/90 because of your seniority from FO? If that's the case you can remain FO till you can get to 20/90 captain seniority.
