Destiny 2's Lore & Story from the season of the Haunted is kicking off with the fraying friendship between Amanda and Crow. The Nightmare of Uldren Sov is both literally and metaphorically hanging over Crow. The question of whether Amanda will forgive him is still in doubt.

This nightmare situation might actually help mend things with Crow and Amanda. Seeing nightmare Uldren could give her a physical representation of how different Crow and Uldren are from each other. She may end up being the one giving him the push he needs to finally face nightmare Uldren.

@@thesilliestgoose5990 simply writing Crow and Uldren off as two different people isn’t realistic. Just because someone’s personality changes does not mean they aren’t the same person deep down. It’s like saying Anakin and Vader are two different people, when they are just one person who has underwent a radical change. By the logic of saying Crow and Uldren are two different people, then Uldren pre-Taken King and Uldren post Taken King are two different people. Plus the nightmares of Uldren are not Uldren himself, they are a manifestations based on a person’s perception of or something. Nightmare Uldren being who he is is based on Crow’s perception of him and even Eirs admits they have a lot more in common and acceptance is a better route. Uldren for all of the bad things about him had a good traits which Crow definitely inherited. Remember the Fanatic was made out of compassion Uldren had. Other examples include recent dialogue about Crow’s little lies. You cannot separate yourself from your past, but you can accept it and move on to be a better man.

Pretty sure that’s the Nightmare messing with Crow. I think there’s a lore tab from Crow’s Ghost’s perspective pretty much stating the opposite. I can see this going 2 ways story-wise. My guardian shot Uldren in the head. That's done and buried. Everything I judge Crow on has always been his actions since joining the Vanguard. As far as I'm concerned, he's still too soft and too eager to prove himself. The situation he finds himself in can only be resolved by settling his past. He can never be Uldren Sov again. That ship has sunk. It'd be like wearing a dead man's skin. He'd be way too self-aware of his actions. Everything he'd do would be with the sub-context that Uldren would've done it this way or that way. Being Crow isn't about accepting Uldren Sov. It's about accepting that he cannot be him anymore. That no matter what he knows or "remembers", it's simply not possible to go back to being someone he's not. He's already separated his sense of self from Uldren to the point where Uldren is merely the memory of someone he used to know.

If anything, this just shows how truly dangerous a foe Savathun was and continues to be. We may have (temporarily) killed her, but she has ravaged the minds and emotions of people in the City and the Reef to the point that we have interactions like this. Oryx simply came in guns blazing when he assaulted the system, and all we had to do was cut through his armies and back him into a corner. The same can be said for Xivu Arath and even her invasion was enabled only by Savathun corrupting Umun. Unlike her siblings and frankly anyone besides the Witness, Savathun sought to exploit our relationships instead to achieve victory. She used Uldren's love for Mara to kill Cayde, unleash the Scorn, and curse the Dreaming City. Her time as Osiris allowed her to reel us all in close under the guise of a trusted friend to let our guard down, before revealing herself and sending us on an emotional spiral. This interaction shows just that, since it was Savathun who gave Crow his memories, leading to his actions in Season of the Risen and now this rift between him and Amanda, where they were once good friends. Emotional wounds cut deeper than any physical wound (esp. for Guardians), and the Witch Queen knew just that.

The radio message was heart wrenching, especially for myself. When I was a child, I experienced the confusion of physical and emotional abuse from my parents without explanation. It made me unnecessarily cautious of others as I continued to grow, causing me to build up unimaginably high walls to my heart. I related with Crow, as he also experienced abuse with no explanation. Obviously, I did not experience the level of pain he felt from others, but regardless, abuse is *still* abuse. Yes, Crow should have opened up more to Amanda, but in Crow's defense, how could he have known better? He lied, and he needs to own up to those lies, as well as confront Uldren wholeheartedly to regain trust, not only in himself, but in others. Amanda does not, and may never understand how Crow feels, but Amanda may be the only one that Crow can fully put his trust in, and I hope she realizes it. Crow needs therapy not a hug. Amanda needs a hug. Saladin needs a big sorry by Crow. Cayde needs to be kept in memory. And RIP Caiatl's psion, crow accidently killed because of his egoistic idealism.

The fact that you empathise with Amanda and only get 17 upvotes and Team Crow is lifted to the skies in terms of upvotes is actually quite sad. Amanda is also human and somehow everyone tries to put themselves in Crow's shoes but no one tries to put themselves in Amanda's, Saladin's or anyone else's shoes. It almost seems like the person who makes their suffering known the loudest gets the most attention and the quiet people like Amanda are completely ignored! The moment when everyone comforts Crow and Amanda who is still grieving for Cayde is just completely ignored. I don't understand why people are so extremely fond of Crow.

Being a guardian means your past doesnt matter for all intense and purpose we are a blank state, for all we know our character could be a mass murderer before our demise but we got a second chance. Now Crow has the burden of having the body of one of the most known person in the system but also the one that killed one of the leaders of the last city, now imagine get revived, not having the guidence we had, and been killed on site but some random guardians. Uldren paid for his crime with his life by our hands, Crow didn't deserved any of what is happening to him (This reminds me of an episode of Black Mirror called White Bear), when Zavala and Ikora found out they were rightfully shocked but as guardians they understood that your past life doesnt matter. That being said, this is the first time that a guardian experience all of his past life in one fraction of a moment thanks to Savathun, not counting Ana because she knows who she was thanks to the nametag and what she can gather in clovis facilities and her sister. This story tread opened up the posibilites for having this kind of disccusion and study the morality of what the traveler intended when he command the ghost to revive someone without their memories and why the powers of the darkness uses memories(deepsight and nightmares) as a tool as well, can we regain our memories of our previous life?, all interesting questions.

So I murdered Elsie Bray, then I am reborn as a guardian, then I learn that I killed Elsie Bray (but I was manipulated, but still), and I am aware of this, but I still try to get Ana bray in the bed. That's what crow is doing with Amanda and it's okay because crow is clinical depressive?

As somebody who lost a brother to a violent crime. I can say I have looked his killer in the eye and the pit of absolute hatred that opens up is truly horrifying. In the end you accept what happened but its very hard to forgive. It's almost impossible. But in the end you need to accept that your loved one is gone. They won't come back. And holding on to that hatred will only drag you deeper into that pit. Your lost love wouldn't want that. I would give Amanda a hug and be a shoulder to cry on. For all those who share this pain. It gets better. The pain never fully goes away but it server's as a reminder to live your life to the fullest because you never know when part of it can be taken away. Stay safe guardians.

So here's the deal... "Bad Uldren" the source of the nightmare is an aspect of Crow's prior life that was created during his corruption in the black garden through Riven (and Savathun's) shenanigans. Uldren before that (and Uldwyn before that still) was actually a decent guy who was good with kids and cared deeply (a bit too much) about his family (mom and sister). He was well liked and he was not who shot Cayde. Savathun probably only gave him memories of that version of Uldren because she's involved in its creation. There needs to be someone to remind him that he was a decent human/awoken before his corruption and that he needs to reach to that and not what he's struggling with. Unfortunately Mara (and other awoken) are the only ones who can help him with that... problem is Mara thought THAT Uldren was nothing but a loser and a second stringer to herself and others... I feel bad for the guy.

Out of everyone who had been closed to Cayde-6 and were affected by his loss, Amanda was hit the hardest with the reveleation about Crow. It cut too deep right now, and although she has reason to be angry, I think she'll have to come around the fact that Crow is a different person now. Crow himself has got to accept both the good and the bad about himself and his past. A tough step to follow through, given his Nightmare's needling remarks, but if he's able to do so, maybe that'll help him come clean with Amanda once she's ready to hear him out for real.

I really do hope they don't go the "If they treat me like a monster I will become one" deal. I really and I mean REALLY like Crow as a character and boy he just can't get an emotional break from anyone. The man was forced to see his past doing and no guardian has ever had that experience. Knowing that he killed a friend that was known throughout the tower, hell yeah he has to hide. He keeps getting killed by guardians (Titan killed him with hammers), awkward stares...shit it's hard as hell for him. I love how Eris is being the best emotional support for him too, he really needs it. He may not have told Amanda who he really was, but that's not something to start a conversation lol.

Crow won't purge his nightmare. Eris didn't. We brought mementos to Eris during Shadowkeep that allowed Eris to get some closure and move on. Once this happened her Nightmares vanished. A Nightmare's strength is also its weakness. They only have power if you let me them have power. What Crow, and whoever else included in the season's story, needs to do what we helped Eris do. Find closure and move on.

I really want to know what Crow thinks about Mara. He clearly doesn't hate Savathun, rather he would believe that even she can be forgiven as he was. But, what about Mara? Unlike Uldren, Crow knows the evil that Mara did to him and that most of hus demise was her plan. Will he forgive her? Forgive someone who used him as a sacrificial lamb from the start? Will he forgive betrayal coming from his own family?

Way back when, I held a gun to Uldrens head. Now? I got a feeling I’ll be leveling Luna’s Howl at everybody coming for him. It took me a bit to accept and well, forgive and separate Uldren from Crow. Crow is a kinderguardian. Even now just as fumbling as the rest of the New Lights running around the EDZ. I hated Uldren. I don’t hate Crow. We’re witnessing the hardest birthing of all. The birth of a whole person. Singular and all his own. And Crows terrified of who that person will be. And yeah, I put Uldren in the ground. Now I gotta pull Crow up and out of it. Before his own fears bury him.

Something I’ve noticed during the containment missions, Eris is completely understanding of Crows struggles and even assures him that she won’t condemn him for his failings to sever Uldrens Nightmare. Crow and Uldren are the same in many ways, but there is one key difference between the two. Uldren lost everyone who cared about him but Crow has us The Guardian, Zavala, Eris, Glint, an entire support structure that can keep him grounded. Saladin showed him this by putting his life up in exchange for Crows for his killing of the Psion. A support structure is key for maintaining our mental health.

I could be off base with this but when I heard the communication between Holliday and Crow, I thought by "murdered friend" she meant, by Crow accepting to regain his memories of Uldren, he was 'murdering' his new self and in a way turning his back on a 2nd chance. edit: I feel like EVERYONE was informed Uldren killed Cayde so why would that come as new/shocking info to Holliday. edit 2: It just clicked that when Amanda says "I had a friend, YOU murdered him". She's talking to Uldren not Crow. Hmmm.

Danm I love hw that dialogue plays out. You know in a narrative sense, it;s very tragic. Amanda "Wore that mask, pretended to be my friend." Crow "Amanda I am your friend." Amanda "I had a friend (Cayde) and you murdered him." Danm the voice acting here is so good. You can just feel the pain of both people. Amanda realizing who Crow is and feeling the buried emotions she did from Cayde's death. While Crow is feeling pain at possibly losing a good friend he'd recently made, pain drudged up from a long time of suffering for the past and sins of the man who's body he was born in. Can't wait to see where this goes.

Yeah I’m really disappointed in Amanda, though I understand how complex yet sinple it was to answer amanda especially since she isn’t willing to hear anything he had to say. “Since Savathun….” “When ever memory of Uldren’s was forced back into me.” Even though could be the direct and easiest answer, it’s also the most loaded reply and makes the general degradation of their relationship worse. Though his mention of people just Killing him on sight, should be telling enough. Unfortunately I doubt Amanda and crow were close enough yet for him to ever bring it up or mention anyone aspdct before he arrived to the city. Then there’s the fact that Crow did save Zavala. Though I am waiting on Amanda’s interaction with us, since we were the ones who did hunt down and kill uldren and was there when Cayde passed on…
@J-manli
@J-manli 2 жыл бұрын
My personal take is that Amanda never fully grieved Cayde’s death and Crow’s reveal was the tipping point for all that bottled grief to escape. Iirc, at the end of Forsaken, Amanda was about to ask us who pulled the trigger on Uldren but backed out and said she’d rather not know. This tells me that she tries to not think about it, but that’s usually the worst thing you could ever do when trying to process grief.
