"Ghaul believes in a better class of guardian" That made me think about there's maybe a small part of Ghaul that want's us to defeat him and to maybe validate the Traveler's choice in us and prove we are far stronger than even we know by giving us an opponent who pushes us farther to extinction than any other foe.

"Without victory, we cant go home" Might be a type of war cry in reference to the theory that the Cabal homeworld was taken by Oryx. Meaning they lost their home and only in victory over the Darkness can they finally reclaim their world.
@johnfinn11387 жыл бұрын
I'm becoming increasingly confused as to what exactly "The Darkness" IS. Is it a physically tangible energy source or is it just a representation of how races like the Hive, Taken and Vex close in like a dark cloud? Clearly the Fallen aren't really part of the Darkness and it's starting to seem like the Cabal aren't either so it's seeming more and more like an abstract concept without an actual, specific definition.
@colvamoon69627 жыл бұрын
John Finn I like to think it's like the light. it can empower those that fight for it. but much like the traveller, it's a living creature. but it has no frorm, so it need others.

John Finn I thought the exact same thing man. Is the darkness an actual thing, or just as an ideal. It isn't really explained
@johnfinn11387 жыл бұрын
At the beginning of Destiny, I thought it was some kind of energy source that all the enemy classes feed off of to enhance their powers or perhaps they were born out of it to begin with but that clearly isn't the case with the Fallen and Cabal. Really makes you wonder how much difference there actually is between the Traveler and the Darkness. Maybe they're 2 sides of the same coin
@colvamoon69627 жыл бұрын
John Finn I see them based on the warriors that fight for them. the traveller is honorable and 'commands' through respect, such as the guardians, and sorta the fallen. while the darkness does it through fear, such as the hive.
@Sharky41527 жыл бұрын
John Finn these days, the Darkness is whatever actively fights against the Traveler and its soldiers. The Hive/Taken are definitely the probable original species of Darkness. The Vex joined because their vision of time probably stated that they needed to join with the Darkness to survive. Theose factions are definitely the major players of the actual Darkness. As for the Fallen and the Cabal, they're pushed by their own agendas, not those of the Darkness. I'd say they're actually minor powers that survived the Darkness, but their hunger for the Traveler's Light puts them in the same basket with the others from our point of view.

Ghaul is going to get a foot in his turtle candy ass! He and his legion destroyed the tower the last bastion of hope for Guardians. Which forces us into the European zone to re-group, and we have to re-learn our powers and re-assemble the Vanguard. The Cabal have never, ever helped us, so why be compassionate with them? At least with the fallen Variks is/was an ally. While the thought of Ghaul ultimately coming to Earth to save his home world and be a part of the light is a good story. He still destroyed our home, and for this he will pay. I'm not giving the Cabal any passes this is the fight I've been waiting for since D1. And if the queen's army wants to change sides or reveal they don't like us, they can get it too. This is why I love games that have real stories. the outcome usually is not how things started. Great Job!

My friend and I were talking about this exact topic last week and came to the same conclusion. We also talked about a lot of people complaining about us fighting an enemy that is already in Destiny and not a new enemy but I think it is fitting for Destiny 2 to be how Bungie is making it story wise. I could see in the future make next years expansion or Destiny 3 have new kinds of aliens that we fight in the game though I could see the Nine pop up in Destiny 2 somewhere

It seems weapons and items have taken over the grimoire as far as lore goes. The lore is still there, you just have to work harder to find it now. Also, I'm glad you can see the business side of it. If Bungie cannot market this game to the masses, there will be no Destiny to enjoy. The one thing I appreciate about Bungie is that their games can either be enjoyable simple or shockingly complex. It all depends on the amount of time you're willing to invest in it.

This is what I have been waiting for. Looking at the Cabal I think of simply of a military government. They don't have the same motivations as the Vex, Hive and Fallen. They aren't looking to wipe out humanity. Many, it could be argued, are simply fighting to go home.
@kabuboost4457 жыл бұрын
Awesome video!! Playing off your theory(s), the gold hologram planet that the cabal commanders were looking at in the lore card, and then the ghost fiddled with the controls and it turns into a fissure filled planet, could that be the cracked planet we see when the sun is destroyed by that machine in the Destiny 2 trailers? Would that confirm that in fact that trailer is a flashback and not our sun being destroyed? Potentially being Gaul's home planet, it was an only means to destroy their sun along with the planets to destroy the darkness in that system, and an explosion of that magnitude would most likely also destroy the weapon, tech that they got from the vex! That could be why they are drilling on Nessus because they need the vex tech to rebuild the star destroying weapon to try the same thing in Sol!! Another theory is that it seems like the vex will be fairly prominent in D2, with Nessus and Io looking pretty vex'y! It could be that the star explosion was in our system, we somehow escape, but use vex tech to go back in time to stop our system from being destroyed!! And/or that planet that gets destroyed in the explosion could be the traveler! Theory: Gaul's "6-pronged" machine thingy that seals the traveler drains the light out of the traveler, leaving the guardians of Sol with no light! And then by destroying the system and the traveler along with it leaves absolutely no means by which to regain light! Since all planets would be destroyed, no arc storms by which to gain non traveler light abilities, no sun, so not sun breakers and the like! The only possible one to regain might be void!! And even if the argument is made that we could flee to another system and use its natural elements to regain our powers, it would still be a major loss for us and we'd be severely displaced!!! Just a theory though, and MASS speculation, what do you think?!

Then it ended up being that Gary was runt, unwanted by his society and unwanted by the Traveler. He was envious of others and took what made them special but could never be special himself. He took the throne, but the people loved Calus. He took the Traveler, bur it would not acknowledge him. Wen the Traveler rejected him, he threw a tantrum. He, himself, proved that he was as rotten on the inside as he was on the outside as the albino runt of a Cabal that he was. He reminds me of the ugly, nerdy, giant from Futurama.

Fellow guardians and lovers of lore, I have thought about the same thing the moment I heard bungie speak of Ghaul, at first I thought maybe it was the same as the Eliksni, the Cabal had once had the traveler and lost it, while the eliksni became scavengers the cabal became a military empire. Both want it back, but after hearing your theories mine are changing, ghaul is acting out of desperation, perhaps the darkness is ruining the empire, as did the whirlwind take the Eliksni. Maybe he heard about th great power it once gave his people and decides it's time to take it back. Im most likely wrong though.

Thought: If we wouldnt have interrupted the Shield Brothers in the strike, when they had the bombs wired to Oryx's command ship, would they have been successful? Idk if I am reading too much into it but in the Book of Sorrows Verse XXXVIII, " But while Oryx traveled to observe the Deep destroy an ancient fortress world" I just thought that kind of ties into the Cabal, not encountering Oryx, but the Deep/Darkness, and resulting in them fleeing and looking for a way to fight back.

remember a couple of videos ago when you were talking about what you thought was a Vex time rift with a broken planet in it. what if that is why Ghaul wants the traveler's light. what if Ghaul needs the power of the light in order to breach the time gate to go back and stop the Cabal's home world from being destroyed. Even more so later on in the trailer it shows the cabal weapon blowing up the sun and wiping out a solar system. my theory in that the Guardians discover why Ghaul needs the light after defeating him but Ghaul in a last ditch effort decides to activate the weapon. At that point the Guardians race to the time gate to restore earth which would be that point in the trailer where the Guardians are standing in the time gate. but that is just my theory

I have 2 theories and aren't directly related to each other. 1. The planet we see getting destroyed in the reveal trailer is, perhaps, the Cabal homeworld. 2. The title of "Dominus" gives the suggestion that Gaul is a slave owner. Maybe the Cabal that serve under the banners of the Red Legion are slaves and only serve out of fear. Maybe once we defeat Gaul, we shall have a new and powerful ally?

(I've only watched half of this video at the time of writing this comment so if this theory is stated by Byf in the video somewhere after the halfway mark forgive my impatience) Gaul being motivated by some strife got me thinking... The Cabal aren't allowed to go home, as expressed by grimoire and an in-game line of dialogue made by our ghost, but why? One could argue that it's because a naturally militaristic and honor-bound race like the Cabal just don't want to return home until their problems are solved, but the Cabal being in our galaxy leads me to believe something else is going on. A'arn's last words, before being taken, mentioned not being able to go home. Gaul, motivated by strife and what he believes to be a sort of "mantle" to wield the Traveler's power instead of humanity leads me to think that the Cabal homeworld was/is plagued by the darkness. Why else would the Cabal be on Mars if not looking for the Traveler? Why else would Gaul feel the need to take and use the Traveler's power? Because they literally cannot return to their home planet without the light. They can't come back to where they once lived because it's impossible to do so without the light. Perhaps this theory is why Gaul feels the Cabal are worthy: because they've suffered enough and they just want to go home.

I believe there's someone\something bigger than ghaul as our journey expands. Crota had Oryx, just remember that.
@wyattpauley92507 жыл бұрын
well...... Here's a theory that I thought of as I watched this video. In the Cabal Grimoire card that you mentioned, where the planet in the hologram is fissuring, I thought of the clip of video we saw in the Destiny 2 reveal. The clip that you referenced where the cabal machine blew up a sun, and you see a planet that has cracked and fissured to the point it is falling apart. I think that maybe that station was a power source for the cabal and perhaps when the darkness attacked, Ghaul's home world was destroyed (some refugees including him escape) and the planet is left in the state we saw in the video. And in a last ditch effort to push back the darkness, the cabal reverse the beam of the power station to blow up the sun. I think that that is a possibility of how Ghauls home system was destroyed by the darkness/sacrifice of the cabal to stop the darknesses's forward advance. Also I think that the forward scouts saw a race with the gift of light from the traveler, so Ghaul also know thats a way to fight the darkness, causing a "if only we had the light we would not of had to blow the system". I don't know maybe this is a absolutely crazy theory thats not possible... Let me know what you guys think?

My main gripe with your theory is that other item and grimoire entries all but state that the Cabal have never encountered Oryx or the Traveller before. If they knew about what the Light did for those the Traveller blesses, I don't think they'd have been so unprepared for the Guardians or Oryx. An empire as massive and powerful as the Cabal's surely would have already studied the Light's effects beforehand (entries about the Fallen indicate the Traveller seems to operate in a similar fashion with each world it meets) and developed countermeasures to the Light beyond 'Orbital bombardment and hope you get their Ghost'; same thing with Oryx and the Taken. So while it's possible that they have now faced some agents of the Darkness, I don't think it was the Taken. And while they are certainly aware of the Light now, I don't think they've quite put two and two together. The Cabal are space locusts; they move from world to world, capturing/enslaving anything useful they find, and levelling the rest. Their High Command may just see the Traveller as another useful tool, not awre of the cosmic war against the Darkness. Imagine it from Ghaul's perspective: You want to be the hero who saves your people, but you can't fight these enemies. Then you hear a report from some far-off scouting legion. The report talks about a broken planet whose inhabitants, with nothing more than the power of this 'Traveller', deploy soldiers that cannot die; soldiers who wield seemingly impossible powers; soldiers who are each capable of decimating whole batallions; soldiers who, with less than a dozen men, can defeat reality-warping monstrosities that have been swatting aside your legions like flies. How angry, how jealous would you be? A shattered world with a disorganized command and, by all accounts, idiots for soldiers hoarding this incredible power? Just imagine what he could accomplish with a fleet of undying, Light-weilding, properly-trained soldiers. He'd be a hero... no, a god, to his people.
@morganalabbadi23737 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you Byf. But I think that Ghaul lost the Light from the Traveller and that he almost died one time after he lost the Light and realized that the Light is so much valuable than what the current guardians think. That's why he wants to take the Light back and be almost invincible and take over Galaxies much easier than he can do without the Light

You know, this got me thinking; what if all the enemies we faced were once touched by the Traveler? Cabal were turtle people before meeting the Traveler, becoming a military empire before the Traveler left and the Darkness destroyed their world. Vex were simple organisms before the Traveler gave them a robotic shell (like the ghosts) and gifted knowledge of a 'pattern of light' before leaving and they instead worship the Darkness. Hive may not have any correlation to the Traveler but were not blessed with the Traveler's gifts, so they made a deal with the worm gods, leading to the Traveler being their enemy. You know how the Fallen came to be in the grimoire. If the Traveler left us, I would be afraid to know that the Darkness would do to us.
@vketchup13167 жыл бұрын
One reason why the Traveler might have picked guardians over Cabal is that while guardians are strategic and logical, Cabal are trained only by brute force, and choose to wipe out everything that stands in their path.
